James Young
I bought a computer from Jim in November 09 around Thanksgiving. The system had Windows 7 but didnt want to play any games that were allegedly compatible with that system. After multiple graphics crashes, I took the system back to Jim, at which point he said hed replace the whole thing with all new parts (since I hadnt even had it a week). Strangely enough, same thing kept happening with the new system. Given that I had only had the systems total for 2 months, I demanded a refund. At this point Jim started saying all sales were final and accused me of "just having buyers remorse" while implying maybe I was just being emotional due to the recent passing of my father. (I wish I was kidding.) Strange, but when we proceeded to buy a system from Best Buy with Windows 7 on it, magically all these games started to work again. Im not saying dont buy from Jim. Im just saying that with all the other options out there, Im pretty sure Id make him my absolutely last stop. Hell comment on how many network customers he has and claim that youre the only dissatisfied customer, but as you can see from the other comments here thats far from the case. Indeed, before he likely complained to Yahoo, at one point his rating there was below 3 _with_ clearly purchased / family reviews. You can also tell that he had some ratings removed, as he was actually dumb enough to respond to my ratings there by going ad hominem. So so caveat emptor definitely applies here.

I am Jim Driggers and have owned The Computer Store for over 13 years and my IT consulting company for 15 years now. I want to respond to the negative reviews. I would like to say out of the thousands of VERY HAPPY customers we have, we love you and THANK YOU for being understanding that we are human and not perfect. I am glad you are our customers and we will bend over backwards for you. Saying that, by reading the negative one stars on here it is obvious that only the customers that wont listen to us or will create their own problems then blame The Computer Store are the ones that like to write negative reviews. There is a reason we have been in business in Topeka longer than any other Computer store, because we provide the best service we can and we love our customers and always bend over backwards for them. I think it is interesting how the bad reviews on here have not came to me or my manager personally to resolve their problem before leaving a bad review. Enough said, if you stop in the Computer Store, please know we will help you in any way that is a reasonable request for any problem.

I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad from The Computer Store in the summer of 2015. I had had some problems with my other computers, and talked with the sales person at TCS extensively about whether the Thinkpad would have the same problem. As far as my initial experience in the store, I felt at the time that they did an excellent job. But they didnt tell me about the severe and insoluble problems that are widely encountered with Lenovo. Lenovo interferes with the functioning of Internet Explorer. (I dont know about other browsers for sure, but my experience there has not been good either.) Not only does it interfere with Internet Explorer, but it CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE COMPUTER. Try searching online for "How to stop Lenovo from interfering with Internet Explorer." What you will find is, there is no way to do this. Engineers are searching for a solution; so far, nothing. So what good is a nice salesman, if he is selling an inferior and unfixable product?

Decent store nothing special, but there is one glowing red flag that they constantly fly and it is a bad enough thing to make me shy away from ever using their services. You should NEVER custom build a server that is expected to last. They will work but the mass produced systems you can always get parts for, a custom build ther is no way of knowing how long you can get replacement parts for. They can and most likely will argue that they are of better quality to build one, but if you look at the numbers failure rates are pretty flat accross the board for all mainstream servers, and not so much with custom builds. Bottom line is they do have decent techs, and can get you up and running, but I would shy away from major harware purchases. Oh and the author of "A Customer Service Nightmare" the owner over there does come off exactly as you say, but personally I dont belive he means to belittle his clients, I dont think he knows he is doing it.

I took my computer to be fixed becuase the internet did not work. They found visuse and changed me $250 to fix the visuses and put a new virus protection on the computer. Great! Except the computer only worked for 2 weeks. Took it back and they said well you have been all over the internet and that is the problem. WHAT? That is what you do on a computer. So they charged me another $70 and gave me a list of what sites I had been too. For what I do not know. Then I get home and it works for 2 days. I am not tkaing it back and I am just out $320 and will tell everyone NEVER take your computer there. I wish I would have read the reviews before I went there. They do not stand behind their work. They are rude and blamed me for the problems becuase I had been on the internet. So believe me that I will tell everyone NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER go there no matter what.

The Computer Store is who I call and go to when I am stumped with computer problems. They are knowledgeable about their business and what affects your computers. There are so many things out there on the internet which can affect the performance of your computer and the staff at The Computer Store are aware of them and know how to remove them from your system and educate you on how not to have bad things happen again. Also, The Computer Store is the only local dealer I know of that carries ClickFree computer back up systems. The staff there can not stress enough about regular backing up of your computer and have the hardware with the easiest and best software on it for you to purchase.

Things are improving, Things went south there for a while with The Computer Store, which was disappointing because I did a lot of business with them. When I bumped into the owner earlier this year we had a nice conversation and I decided to send some more of my business their way. Im here to say, things are looking a lot better for them. They are great at stocking hard to find "I need right now" parts and cables, the staff is a lot more pleasant to work with. I have purchased about twenty Computer Store computers over the last 7 years or so. A quick inventory shows that around 18 are still in service with no need to be retired.

My previous review was something that Jim paid me for. They gave me a flash drive to write a positive review. Its nice to see that Jim has, at least, changed the names on some of the reviews by his wife and kids on here. Since writing the last time, Ive seen how Jim treats and cheats his customers. Putting software on your computer to "monitor" it and fix it from their store. It makes me wonder how many of the NEW problems Im having are coming FROM them. On top of that hes stopped taking my calls.
