I hired A Local Van to wrap and move all my furniture from a 3rd floor apartment into a moving truck. Prior to hiring them I explained to the owner exactly what I would like done and the specifics of the apartment. The owner assured me that his movers would bring all needed packing supplies and estimated 1.5-2.0 hrs for the move. Two gentlemen, Patrick and Dave, showed up on time for the move. Upon arriving Dave quickly began complaining about the move and explained that he did not have most of the packing supplies needed. I stated that I had discussed all the specifics with the owner and Dave responded that the owner never tells him anything. Instead of offering to go get them and return he insisted on moving the items with no protective coverings. While Dave whined Patrick busted his butt hauling boxes out to the moving truck. Eventually (approximately 1.5 hrs in) Dave started doing more than standing around my apartment complaining about his job, criticizing my apartment, and judging the value of wrapping my furniture. He moved down to the truck and started organizing everything Patrick was moving down. In the end I ended up paying for 4 hours of time. A perfectly reasonable amount of time considering that only Patrick was moving anything but absolutely infuriating since I was paying for two movers. None the less Dave was quick to ask for a tip at the end. Upon unloading my items at my final destination (I was moving out of state) I found a huge gauge in my couch that goes down to the stuffing. Thinking back I am sure this happened when the couch was carried down the stairs unprotected and got wedged in between exterior walls. Three of the four corners of my oak dining room table are smashed in with the finish scratched off. The same applies for dressers, chairs, picture frames Dave insisted didnt need to be protected, etc etc. If you hire this company ask for two Patricks and absolutely insist not to have Dave. The entire experience with Dave was beyond infuriating and an absolute rip off.

We had a terrible experience with these movers. They quoted us a price of $1700 and charged us $4000! Thats a big enough difference to move to Indiana, we moved 5 miles away from where we were. A contract was not provided up front but on the day of the move. There was no inventory list sent to us beforehand although I did talk to them around 5 times to make sure they knew what we had. When the crew showed up they didnt know we had exercise equipment. We had about 200 boxes in our garage ready to go to make the job go quickly. Halfway through the job, a mover disappeared and this slowed the job down by hours and into the next day. Something was stolen, several things were lost, they knocked a hole in our wall, a step was broken. When we called them back, the man basically called me a liar and said I didnt tell them what we had, he ignored our lost items by saying, "they will turn up." It has been a fiasco. I filed a compliant with the BBB and then a rep from aLocal Van called me to tell me that they were going to sue me for libel! I later learned that a mover should always send a representative out before the move, provide a contract before the move and provide an inventory list. They did none of this. Buyer beware!

I had a local move recently that was last minute. This company is fantastic from start to finish. They set me up right away with two days notice and the person who scheduled me over the phone was very friendly and professional so I felt confident that things would go smoothly. They go based by time of the total move rather than by room, boxes, etc. with a very reasonable rate and should you go over on time, you know up front what the cost will be hourly beyond that. The movers showed up within the time frame promised, called me 30 minutes before arrival. They brought an enormous truck and they were very friendly and handled everything with care from my furniture to my valuables, to my beloved bike. When they were finished moving me in to my new place, I signed off on the bill which was exactly as quoted and they were on their way. Ive now unpacked everything and it was in top notch condition. Cannot say enough good about this experience and I will be letting everyone know that they should use A Local Van Moving and Storage for any moving needs! Extremely impressed, thank you so much for making a stressful task much easier!

Picking a mover is the absolute worst part of preparing to move. Ive seen it and heard it all in my many moves. However I will say that I have been lucky enough to find 2 moving companies in my lifetime that were honest, professional & stood behind their work. One being in NJ (Pony Express) & one here in Louisville (A Local Van Moving & Storage/Rick). Ricks quote was so close to what he said it cost to move us. His guys were hard working & pleasant. Last but not least...you have to be reasonable and know that some items are going to get knicked, scratched or dinged in the move. It s impossible not to. I expected a few things but I did find a few more than I was hoping for. Some of which I couldnt repair myself. I called Rick at A Local Van Moving and her was sincerely apologetic and immediately made an appointment to come out and visit me himself to see if he could fix the items. Low & behold everything was taken care quickly & thoroughly. I WOULD absolutely use these guys again. Doing the right thing is always the way to earn & keep my business.

Update: I spoke to the manager. He apologized to me and let me know that my experience was not typical for the company. While my moving experience was not ideal, the manager went above and beyond to help alleviate the situation. My primary issue was that I was quoted 2 1/2 hours and the entire move took 6. Granted, they did have to install and disassemble a three-piece entertainment center, but I had packed and moved everything except the furniture, beds, entertainment center, 2 lawn mowers, a bike, a treadmill, a weight bench, and a ladder. I moved the entire kitchen, all 3 bathrooms, and all the dvd players, gaming systems, clothing, shoes, etc. The new house was less than 3 miles from the old house. Needless to say, it should not have taken 6 hours for all of this. Furthermore, the details of the warranty were not explained to me clearly. Given the managers response to my complaints, Id say that this company cares about its customers and are willing to work with you if there are any issues with your moving experience.

We used A Local Van for moving from Louisville to New England. From the time that Rick came to do the estimate at my home to the last box that the two movers dropped off on our second floor walk-up (in the rain), it was a great experience. Rick was very patient and took the time to address all my concerns in a timely and polite manner. He also worked with our tight schedule and had his crew come over one day early to pack so we could meet our deadlines. The two crew members that he sent were also excellent. Very careful with our things - one truck load, one thousand miles, zero items broken. When we unpacked everything, it was clear that these pros had taken the time and energy to pack and wrap things carefully. Their prices were extremely fair, and the fact that they did the entire move themselves and did not sub-contract out to national carrier lines, made the expense worth it. I highly recommend this company and would use them again in the future if I could!
