If you dont understand the concept of dragging and dropping, then maybe these folks will be able to help. Otherwise, Id just skip them. My laptop hard drive is failing and I have a new hard drive to pop in. Normally, I would be able to image the old one onto the new one through my Acronis software. However, for multiple reasons, my backups are corrupt, and I cannot get the computer to create a new one. So, I called Geek Squad, EXPLAINED MY EXACT SITUATION - new hard drive, need image transferred from old drive to new. "No problem, bring it in" I was told. So, I do. When I get there, I am informed that they only copy documents, photos, videos, and maybe a .pst file. They dont do images, they dont transfer information between hard drives, nor do anything with software, and will only transfer 9.6GB of information unless I want them to put it on a hard drive that they will sell me. So, I ask, "They arent imaging, they are just dragging and dropping files onto another drive? I would have to take my new drive, reload all my software, install it myself and then copy everything by hand off the drive they sell me?" Yes. "Couldnt I just do that myself, at my kitchen table, and save $150?" Certainly, thats an option, if you wanted to do that. "If I wanted to do that?" If I could do that, I WOULDNT HAVE BROUGHT MY G#$%^&N LAPTOP TO YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE! Thanks for nothing Geek Squad. I know how to work a mouse. So, in short, unless you want to pay someone to do work that you could probably explain how to do to your grandmother, over the phone, then I wouldnt use Geek Squad.

Went in to get an external hard drive to back up my mac, plugged it in and it didnt work (wouldnt mount or appear on desktop but did register on the hard drive). Called the tech support at Best Buy and was told to go through multiple steps to try to rule out various issues that it could be by changing settings, turning off encryption, etc. Still didnt work so went in to exchange for a new hard drive thinking it was a defective hard drive. Went to Geek Squad while I was there to make sure it would work. The guy came over and we plugged it in and the same thing happened. The guy said it was hard drive or USB issue and wed have to send it out for 7-10 days to get it diagnosed while spending $100 to back it up in the process, all the while not really answering my questions and making me feel stupid. Went to Apple and the guy said yeah he didnt really know what he was talking about; turns out it was neither the USB OR the hard drive! It was a software issue that Apple fixed in an hour. Moral of the story: Geek Squad=terrible service and incompetence, go to apple support!

Some friends went to them and all they did was try to sell cleaning supplies for their computer. They didnt even fix the computer. My friend was having trouble with viruses and I ended up fixing it myself. Expensive, poor service, and sales oriented (not service oriented).
