Looking for a list minute hair appt. I searched Google and came across Arelis Dominican... (blah blah blah). Reaching out to a friend living in Laurel I inquired if this was the salon she would go to for blow outs...it was but she mentioned she had not been in about a year. Despite the few negative reviews I decided to give it a try as I knew someone whod been there and had no major complaints. I should have kept scrolling for other options! Upon entering I was greeted by a young girl who took my service request and told me I could have a seat as I waited for the shampoo lady. There was one person ahead of me having her hair shampooed. As I was reading my book I heard the comment "Natural hair is TERRIBLE" I instantly looked up at the employee shampooing who shook her head in a yes motion and the client who HAD NATURAL HAIR sat uncomfortably in the chair & chuckled at the comment. The shampoo lady continued to RAKE at this womans natural wet hair, as she sat there in discomfort. First of all shame on the client for letting the employee who is supposed to be caring for her hair speak to/about her hair that way. Shame on the establishment for allowing this disrespect from their employees. And Shame on them for not knowing how to properly detangle wet hair. Of course I have no interest in this lady shampooing my "NATURAL HAIR (IS TERRIBLE)". Im called next by another shampoo girl, she does a wonderful job shampooing & applying my deep conditioner (I brought my own products as I always do to any salon). She sits me under the dryer, once my 10 minutes are up she brings me back to rinse out the DC. As shes rinsing I feel one tug on my hair...okay...combs a little more another tug...okay. Then she begins RAKING AWAY AT MY HAIR. The same way as I mentioned the first lady did on the other client earlier mentioned. I quickly reached around and grabbed the comb from her, letting her know "my regular hair dresser doesnt comb my hair that way, I dont comb my hair that way, and I damn sure am not about to sit here and let you comb my hair this way. if you need me to I can detangle my own hair." AND SHE HAS THE NERVE TO STEP TO THE SIDE. I detangle the section she was working on and hand her the comb back thinking she got the idea...but I guess I didnt show her clearly enough because she put her hands towards me and said "Do the top too!" SERIOUSLY?!?!?! So after that she moves me to the next chair and gently parts my hair in sections & clips it for blow drying. Now here comes the blow drying portion. I dont have many complaints about this lady, she was actually very nice & made sure I liked the end result. My major complaint about her is she burned me with the dryer too many times. Upon leaving she told the cashier to only charge me $55. I thought itd be a little more b/c I have natural hair passing my shoulders but maybe she took into consideration the incident with the shampoo girl. I hand the cashier THREE TWENTY DOLLAR BILLS, she opens her cash drawer and lets out an annoyed sighhhhhhh and starts pulling all these ones out the drawer. She then goes to hand them over to me. Im not mathematician but I know how to count LOL. I give her the opportunity to correct her mistake by asking her "What was my total again?" and sounding annoyed again she said "Fifty five but I only have these one." and rolls her eyes... I said "YOU KNOW WHAT, THATS NO PROBLEM AT ALL! THANK YOU." I took the stack of ones, gave the blow drying lady a tip and walked out the door. SAVE YOURSELF THE TRIP IF YOU HAVE NATURAL AFRO AMERICAN AFRO KINKY HAIR DO NOT GO HERE. THEY ADVERTISE THEY DO NATURAL HAIR BUT CLEARLY IT ISNT ONE OF THEIR DESIRES. Go see someone who will care for your tresses. Next time Ill toss on a wig and wait for my usual stylist rather than step foot in ARELIS DOMINICAN...(blah blah blah) AND SPA. Nothing about this experience was relaxing...

If that, DO NOT GO IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TYPICAL BLACK HAIR or DONT KNOW SPANISH!!! They should tell you that they only do typical black hair!! They do wonderful work with the hair type they usually work with, the other customers hair were beautifully done, so with my hair being very thick and curly and I have to get my hair done by those who can handle that (usually those who do black hair). If they told us that they dont normally (if at all) do our type of hair we would have gone on our Mary way. They look like they have good and steady business it wouldnt hurt them to have us leave with smiles on our faces, and no negative review. The woman I had treated me like a rag doll ripping at my hair even after I combed it out for her while she was looking at my friends hair. Luckily for my friend the woman that dyed her hair was gentler and smiled. We went in together to get our hair dye and cut/ Style (I refused my cut) After she put the dye in she left me under the drier but left all the dye on my forehead, ears and neck that I had to do it. And Ive never been to a place that dues your hair then goes back to do the roots. They messed up both of our colors, which thats my bad they were staring at the color wall gesturing at different dyes hen putting them back and grabbing another and I shouldve just grabbed my friend and left right then and there. I was going to try and leave while my hair was wet (since Im used to getting the cut while my hair is wet) but they put my hair in curlers under a hair dryer for longer than I needed (I could get out of it when my hair was dry so I had to sit there for another 20 minutes), further showing that they dont typically do other types of hair. They left me in the chair twice, at least I was using google translate to try and figure out whats going on with my hair but nothing on their end. I shouldve left like my friend said and my friend wouldve just paid partial for hers. We were there for 4 1/2 hours and my hair is three different colors (none of them the one red color I asked for) probably because she was on her phone instead of checking on it, and my friends hair was supposed to be red and her hair has not changed and they were talking while she was getting it dyed that they didnt know how to make her hair red (my friend understands Spanish just cant speak it) My head still hurts! I went here based on the reviews and I dont know maybe we went on an off day (though the other women coming in and leaving have wonderful dos) needless to say my friend and I are leaving here upset and frustrated.

Ok I come in, and Im quickly greeted and given a price for a roller set of 50 bucks. After the fist girl washes my hair Im sat in a chair and forgot about, while they attend to head after head...this is after I told them on check in that Im hurt and cant wait long...they took my bussiness. So I see that most of the women there are not hair license hair dressers most are just washers...they only have two hair dressers working, not sure what this other lady was doing. My hair is wet not even blow dryed...a hot mess...so I decide that I dont have a day to waist on them. I go to the front desk and ask the lady the price for the wash (just the wash)....keep in mind the going price for a wash and blow dry is 10 to 18 bucks. This chick at the front desk tries to get 35 bucks out of me. Keep in mind Im dripping wet. I tell her no, she need a fair market price. That math just doesnt add up. After going back and forth with this lady she had to nerve to say I was being charged more for being black. Extra charge for being black at a place the specialized in afro black hair. Wtf?my hair isnt even course. I have 3c hair. This was just dammed right racist. The entire setup was unprofessional. Most customers wouldnt even have offered payment for a half wash...but this place has no limits. This lady went further to threaten to call the cops. Call the cops on me for a service you cant complete? WTF??? I told her to call them right now. She refused, I waisted. Then told her to have a blessed day. My hair looked worst than I arrived. I had to go see a styles to fix what they did...horrible cheap products that tangled my hair. The front desk lady should have taken the 20 bucks I originally offered or said it was no charge due to their horrible customer service. I went to the hair cuttery right next door. There is a dude named Quan there. Dont let him being Asian fool you...he slayed my hair...and didnt pull that racist crap. Just simple great service.
