NEW LA FITNESS POLICY = EMPLOYEES ARE ALLOW TO STEAL I was going let go this issue but it is still bothering me and I am very unsatisfied to the way that it was handled by the management team. Last week, I was in the men lockers getting ready to leave after my workout and a guy entered and started opening the lockers that did not have a lock and talking loud saying "there is a sign there that says that management is not responsible for any lost or damage personal belongings, you should leave your things secured, the company cannot lost any more money, this is a new policy etc." He came back around and my locker was open because I was in the middle of changing so he asked me if that was my staff and I said yes. He continued opening lockers (by the way, did I mentioned he was wearing an LA Fitness uniform?) and right in front of me and other people, he was going inside people lockers, but this time inside jackets and pants and I saw him taking something from one of the jackets and he put it inside his pants. Unfortunately I did not see what he took but I went immediately to the front desk to the manager (who is the most unfriendly, unwelcoming person I ever met in a business) and explained what happened. She first said that there was not male employees working at the time and that because is a male room she didnt feel comfortable going inside without another person (But at not point she had the idea to call the police). I told her that this guy was wearing a uniform. Another employee said that she believe that "(Employee name)" was still in the building. Once I describe the "suspect" it turned out that it was that employee. Unbelievable huh? I left immediately because once I found out that the person stealing was an employee I didnt want to be seen. The next day I came and I asked her (Manager) for a follow up and this was her response "Yes, we already talked to this employee and what happened was that a couple of months ago something got stolen from him in the locker rooms, but he knows better that he cant take an initiative to do something on your own without consulting it with other employees". To me that was a very casual and careless response. To me this is a big issue. I called the corporate office in California and told them what happened, they promise me that they were going to contact the management at the location immediately because it is not a new policy and that it was unacceptable and that they were going to follow up with me. The following week, the manager called me again and said "I just want to let you know that we are taking the necessary steps to the case and that this will not happen again". Another evasive answer. So for this reason since they did not address WHY THIS EMPLOYEE WAS OPENING STEALING IN THE LOCKERS AND WHAT CORRECTIVE ACTIONS IN SPECIFIC WERE TAKING TO THE CASE I decided to post this review. I understand that you should lock your stuff (Which I do), is very much recommended but it is not a requirement. Stealing is stealing and is more shocking when a representative of the business is doing it.

When I went to get a membership there were two sign-up-employees available to do that at the time. I waited a total of 20 minutes (yeah I set a timer). By the time the man got to me, there were 3 other potential customers behind me in the line. The whole time, the man and the woman employee were at the same desk with two customers and laughing it up--not even paying attention to the situation happening at the front of the facility. Finally after 20 minutes, the man comes over and acknowledges me and I sit down with him to set up my 4 month member ship (NEVER do a contract here. They will continue to charge you, long after you request to terminate your membership), While we are setting up the account, he asks me repeatedly what kind of membership I want--as if he didnt hear me clearly the first time (I just wanted my membership and go work out; I wasnt trying to prolong it any further). Insolent if you ask me. Then the woman employee comes over and starts giggling with the man and talking inappropriate nonsense with him and then begin whispering to each other while I was right in front of them. He goes on to whisper something like "no not not..shh"*giggle*giggle*. What unprofessional behavior! One question, are these the sort of people headquarters want running their facility?? Other than some of the unfriendly/unprofessional/disgruntled staff, the machine selection is great, but the locker rooms are uncouth. I gave it 1 star because after a long time of not having a membership I was met with unprofessional-ism, insolence, and very little regard. I certainly hope your interaction with these people are better than mine.

Overall the equipment and classes are ok, though the management of this LA Fitness (perhaps all of them) is terrible. Things remain broken for weeks, months and beyond (including sometimes hot water in the showers and heat in the pool); teachers occasionally dont show up for classes yet front desk staff knows and communicates nothing while students wait patiently for the teacher to appear; theres a huge number of sales staff in the front ready to sell a membership to anyone they can grab at the front door while nobody on staff knows anything about management of the gym; and when you join they market a free training assessment thats really a hoax -- the training staff seem to know nothing about a free assessment but are only focused on getting you to sign up for a long series of expensive training sessions. I might have signed up but was so turned off by their false marketing I wanted nothing to do with their training. I was most recently infuriated to discover that this LA Fitness had been advising members through signs that the gym was closed for a month for renovation. During that time I was going to another LA Fitness thats much less convenient, only to recently discover this LA Fitness in Silver Spring cancelled or postponed its renovation but never had the decency to even email or call members to inform them. With management like this I"m amazed LA Fitness is still in business.

I read the reviews about his place and after I joined it has begun to confirm itself, this place can SUCK. I only join because its cheap in comparison to washington fitness and I do plan to get my moneys worth. The staff are not professional at all at least the one that sign me up, he did not even introduce himself and claimed to be the weekend Manager, really? dude you are far from management material. I plan on going in the morning or mid day when is not so crowded I hope, It does has plenty of equipment, free weights and tons of machines which its all I need. I plan to do my cardio outside, by running to and from the gym, 5 miles round trip. I think trying to use the cardio equipment is a lost cause, someone is always on. Also, the bathrooms do SMELL BAD, some genius decided to use carpet in the locker room area! Again, dude can you say mildew and stench! I would suggest you shower at home. Again, I only join because Im in training for a marathon and needs some weights, its convenient and cheaper than the competition, and no contracts, but as soon as I find something better Im out. About CANCELING: they do make it hard for you to cancel, in order to cancel you have to send a written notice to their HQ offices in Los Angeles, CA. be aware of this before you go and try to sign up. Good luck
