I love the Farmington Y. A wide range of activities - super family friendly - and a solid fitness environment for me. My kids love the swim lessons, and we have just signed up for the Lego Building class for the next session. My 6 year old will also be doing the Sports Sampler Camp this summer. This is a great establishment. They even have daycare while you workout if you need it - and have several designated Saturdays each year where they will watch your kids so you can do a date night (at very highly discounted babysitting rates). I have yet to use the track (I run outside) but it has a full gym including racquetball. Love this place. I saw some other reviews about cleanliness, and weather or not the staff is friendly, and the experience of the leaders etc. Yes, it could be a bit cleaner. But thats a perspective some of us have because we are used to paying out the nose @ high-end gyms before we had families. I dont need that. Ive found all the staff to be extremely friendly. The team that does swim lessons for my 3 boys ages 3, 6, and 9 and well qualified to instruct. The lady who instructs my 3 year old does a great job, as it was his first time in a big scary deep pool. 7 weeks later hes completely independent (with a nerf noodle). Thats exactly what I am looking for. ~Bjorn Olson Farmington Hills, MI

Been a member here for 15 years. It has its pluses and minuses. It is an older facility, but they have all the amenities and a nice child care It is generally clean, but the fitness room gets more attention then the weight room. They have not maintained the equipment in the weight room , so it is showing a lot of wear. They have a lot of programs , but since my kids are older they dont participate in them, however, or experience with them when they were young was good. I dont really use the locker rooms, mostly because I dont bring anything in with me. This is also an offshoot of an ongoing theft problem that they have always had. I cant speak to theft in other gyms, but I can tell you virtually every person I know, including my wife and one son, has had something stolen from here. Does that make it a bad place, I dont know, theft happens everywhere, I just dont bring things in with me and the rest of the family uses locks, which they didnt always use before . The location is pretty key, there arent really any full service gyms, basketball, racquetball, swimming in the area, which is a factor in us staying. It is hard enough getting to the gym without tacking on an increase intravel time. The staff is , for the most part , pretty good . Lack of WIFI is a pain

I disagree strongly with the reviews saying the staff is unfriendly!!! That s one of their strongest points, they have very friendly staff in all areas. They always greet us at the front door or anytime we walk by the front desk. In the cardio room if younhave any questions about equipment they are always available to help. As far as canceling you membership when we enrolled 2 years ago, I still remember them very clearly explaining that you have to give at least 30 dys notice before the next draw. There wa a reviewer that didnt understand thtnprocess as well, and I think unfairly marked this facilty down. Their gym us very nice, there is a running track above it. The cardio room is full of machines. Our favorite is the pool, one heated and one for laps and lessons. There is a hot tub, the changing/locker rooms were Just remodeled. There are computers to use with Internet, complimentary coffee, free childcare. I am very pleased, I would say tour it yourself. Dont listen to these biased negative reviews!!

We subscribed and cancelled after only one month when we discovered their ridiculous pricing policy. The facility itself and the classes are nice; we enjoyed them for sure. What ruined it for us was to discover that our newly joined neighbor was paying much less than us for no specific reason. After calling our representative, we were told that the prices are income based. Confused, we questioned again since they never asked for our income. Then we were told that when the rep presents a price, the final price you pay is based on how you react and that they may adjust the price. We must have reacted in the way to be overcharged. So basically, the price is negotiable and not income based. On the spot pricing varying from person to person and day to day is tricky and unfair. I actually suspect they give prices based on your look, representative or mood of the day. This does not work for us. We cancelled.

Great kids programs and great staff. Older building and needs a refresher ..dont judge a book by its cover...I have a large family and love the family programs.. the teachers are fantastic the programs are really good and yes I have been to nice gyms that are flashy and its very shiny but those are nice from my single days and have the budget to afford it..I paid $80 for a family of 5..and i do get my money s worth since babysitting is included for 2 hrs Mon to Sat!.basketball, swimming, track, racket ball and great location..not to mention summer camp!!...as long as the programming is great the staff is great and they take care of my children and the children learn so Im all for it because its also free babysitting while I work out and also take care of myself thank you YMCA!!

It is sad. I have come to the conclusion that it is time to cancel our membership at the Farmington YMCA. My family and I have been members at this facility for 11 years. It has declined each year in cleanliness, adequate water aerobic instructors, life guards and the lists goes on and on..... Theft has increased in the locker rooms and the parking lot. There is no one to assist you when a problem occurs or if a problem does occur and you need assistance, the staff tells you they, " cant help you or do anything about it." The facility is old and needs many updates. The pools have ongoing problems with temperature issues. We are going to cancel our membership due to the many issues we have seen and faced as members. We will not recommend this facility.

I signed up for a parent-child swim class and it was awful. The Y itself has a dank locker room and pool area but I can forgive that since it is a older building...however, the teacher was a very nice, very young and very inexperienced teenager...hardly what I expected to get for my $150 to take the class...there were 4 families at the start of the program, 2 families had the sense to drop out after the first class. I stuck it out along with another family and we both grew more disappointed as time went on. The teacher didnt even show up to one of the classes. We got nothing out of the class. You are better off taking them elsewhere or just taking them swimming without the class.

My husband and I have been using this facility for over two years now and couldnt be happier. The only complaint is that they seem to have a problem keeping the air conditioning functioning properly. Some areas of the facility are warm and others are cooled (just not enough). For the most part, the staff is friendly and helpful. The Fitlinxx program helps us keep track of our workout routines and progress. Lately, we have been playing racquetball and enjoying that quite a bit. Since our membership (SilverSneakers) is provided as part of our supplemental health insurance, I cant speak to the issue of the dues. But, we certainly enjoy the convenience of this facility!
