I called T&G at 10am and they said they would be out by 4pm, they did not arrive until after 6pm. I called them and clearly explained I have a leak in my Bathtub. I also explained to them I had a 3 handle system, hot, cold, and center knobs to adjust for shower or bathtub. They finally came out after 6pm and said they could not repair the leak because they cannot repair a 3 handle faucet any longer because they do not have parts and it was not legal for them to do so. My husband just happened to go out to HD to get the part so we could try to fix it on our own because they took so long getting here. So my husband gave them the part and they replaced it saying it looked like a good fit and the water was not leaking. Then he went on to say we would need to have 1,200.00 upgrade to redo our pipes for a one handle that would control hot, cold and shower because he stated we were not up to code and they cannot work on a 3 knob nor install a new one. Really, a drippy faucet cost 1,200.00?? We had been planning to redo tub so asked a few questions regarding that and the Plumber said they work with a company to do that. So we paid he left, then I decided to shower and it started leaking again. I called them right back for a call back call. They told me at that time it was after hours and they would charge 164.00?? for an emergency call. Really?? You just left my house 15 min ago. So we ended up calling someone else we knew who then was able to get it down to a slight drip until we could get proper help. My question would be, WHY would the T&G Company come out to my house when I told them what kind of plumbing issue I had beforehand, what the set up was in my bathtub with 3 knobs, when they knew darn well they did not work on a 3 knob faucet? Yet they took my $$ no problem. I called back after the Labor Day weekend was over and explained the situation. I told them I should not be charged because it was not fixed. Then I went back and forth with them as they told me that when their plumber left we were aware it was dripping?? Then basically I got blown off because I wanted a refund, and they were asking what they could do to resolve this and yet they did not want to resolve anything. How about you refund my money, how about you not take a service call when you are unable to fix the problem and knew this in advanced based on the info I gave. Why would HD carry the parts if it is illegal? The only reason I gave 1 star is because the plumber that did come out was pleasant. Just seemed like his hands were tied and he had no choice via company rules to try to sell me 1,200 worth of updates for a simple leaky faucet. I feel bad writing a review like this, but feel like I was genuinely ripped off, so does my husband. Speaking with a contractor whom we hired he assured me it was total nonsense. Needless to say we decided to go ahead and Hire another Company to put in new walls and a tub. Feel more comfortable working with a Company that is straight up and not just trying to make a sale. Wont be calling Thornton and Grooms again.

They were nice on the phone and able to come out the same day, something I needed. The guy was rather late but they did call right about the time he was supposed to arrive to let us know he was going to be about 1-3 hours late. Ended up being about 3 hours, but i wasnt too bothered about this. The guy was friendly enough but was unable to even light the water heater he was there to diagnose, despite it having a VERY common Honeywell control unit with lighting instruction on a sticker ON THE UNIT! He kept thinking he had it lit but couldnt be bothered to get down on the ground and look through the small window to make sure, and he never did get the pilot to light anyways. I tried to explain the lighting procedure for him but he politely ignored me. When he went to his van to use google on his iPhone, I lit it for him and brought him back in to show him the code flashing on it and what my research had shown that to mean. At this point he acknowledged I was correct and informed me that the only way to repair it was to replace the whole control unit which costs almost as much as a new water heater, which was true. He was quite polite and had some good advice about buying a new water heater but like I said, he clearly had no idea how to properly operate a gas water heater, more less diagnose a faulty one. Despite getting some useful advice, I was quite unhappy with the service I received. I expected a knowledgeable technician who could tell me exactly what was wrong. I think the guy specialized in something other than water heaters. Maybe if we didnt need same day service we would have gotten a technician more suited to the issue we had. Update: Two days after posting this review, Thornton & Grooms called me to apologize for not meeting my expectations, thanked me for providing them with valuable feedback, promised to discuss my experience with the plumbing manager and offered me a full refund. While it did not affect my satisfaction with the service we had received, I have to respect that they contacted me, made no excuses of any kind and did the best they could to make things right. Although I had a poor experience, it seems clear this company cares about their customers and wants to do right by them. I changed my rating from two to three stars.

Thornton & Grooms, the 1st choice of slumlords all over Michigan. Ive been telling my property manager for six months now that the well water at the residence is non potable and unfit for human consumption. After six months of him putting me off, I decided I would withhold my final months rent unless he addresses the water before I move out next month. He finally decided to send in someone to check out my complaints and he sends Thornton and Grooms. They come in, check the water with a couple tests, and run out without saying anything except he has to call the property manager. So I called Thornton and Grooms to see what all the fuss was about and they wouldnt tell me a thing! They were shut up like a lawyer claiming client privileges, claiming they were the property managers contractors and imbued with an urgent need of non disclosure. So I had called my own expert in today, and they were bewildered that anyone would lack the moral duty to inform a person NOT to drink the water from their tap. TDS(TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS) were 358 ppm, SIX times above the EPAs efficacy guidelines of 50ppm. Iron level is 4.0, 13.333 times the level that will accumulate a rust like build up on your shower and arterial walls. And with a full tank of salt freshly regenerated, my hardness level is 15gpg...10gpg is what most water specialists call extremely hard...they took samples of the water to send to a lab for me as well as to check for unsafe bacteria, but that is a no-brainer when you look at the back toilet, which is used less often and develops a slimy, shiny, oil looking layer after sitting stagnant for only a 24 hr period....in short...my water is not safe for human consumption, its not safe for plant and animal consumption...nor is it healthy for general contact... Hed not seen water this bad even in most of Flint....and Thornton & Grooms valued their clients interest over my safety and did not tell me any of this. So, when you need to cover up your negligence as a slumlord and keep your tenants in the dark about whats really in your septic... call Thornton and Grooms. Tell em I sent you.
