We called Roto-Rooter to do a simple dishwasher installation. Dishwasher was already delivered so all we needed was for them to install it. When the employee showed up, he quoted us a cost of $560 to install the dishwasher. That is $160 more than we paid for the actual dishwasher. Id been calling around and knew that the going rate was about $200-300 for an install (we went with Roto Rooter because they were able to come on my day off -- they told us they did not do estimates over the phone but I assumed their charges would be in line with the going rate). I asked "is that five hundred sixty?" because I thought maybe hed meant he was adding a $5.60 charge for a part, and he answered with a sarcastic reply about how yes it was, and he wasnt going to be working today for five dollars and sixty cents. The employee additionally tried to up-sell us on a new faucet while he was here. The faucet is wobbly but functional. When I declined the new faucet he made a sarcastic comment about the condition it was in. After calling my husband to confer, we decided that $560 was too much for an installation charge, and told the employee that we no longer needed his services because the rate was just far too high. He still charged us $95 because hed had to go get an additional part and was charging us for his time. (When he said he was going to get a part, I assumed he was going out to his truck and was very surprised when instead he drove away. He did not say he was leaving the property nor did he give us an estimate on when he would be back. It took about 30 minutes for him to return.) Overall it was an extremely, extremely bad interaction, probably one of the worst Ive had with a company in all the times Ive had have a serviceman or contractor come to the house. This person was unfriendly, sarcastic, and wanted to charge us a really ludicrous amount of money for what should have been a simple installation. He told us that this was the "book rate" for Roto Rooter for a dishwasher install. And yet Roto Rooter wont give estimates over the phone - if they know what the book rate is why not tell customers? I think its because they know that its hard to say no once the person is standing in your kitchen and youve already taken the time off work to be there, so many people will just sigh and say "ok fine, heres the $560 check." BEWARE, this company charges exorbitant rates and will not warn you in advance. DO NOT USE THEM.

I had a very bad kitchen sink leak Christmas Day. I called Roto Rooter the next morning immediately and they came out right away. I was lucky enough to not have a continuous leak so I did not need to have someone come out on Christmas Day. Obviously I was worried Christmas Day costs would be extreme, and Id hate to pull someone away from their holiday if not an immediate emergency. However when I mentioned this to Rob, who came out the next morning he informed me that they were a 24/7/365 business and had I called them Christmas Day there would have been no additional charge, and it would have been the exact same price which, even though I had not needed it I found extremely refreshing and helpful to know for any future emergency for myself or anyone else. Rob was extremely helpful and fixed the issue, unfortunately due to water damage I had to have further work done and the kitchen floor torn up to have the floor dried out and some insulation removed in the basement where it had leaked through to dry that area out as well. As frustrating as all this was having happened at all, and especially over the Christmas/New Year holidays, I was so pleased with the service I received. Kyle and his team came out to do the drying out of the kitchen and basement and continued to come check the work every day afterwards. They made themselves available for questions and were extremely flexible with scheduling to come when I was available. They even have given me some very helpful advice with their experience dealing with certain issues with insurance, as I am having some conflicting difficulty in that area between my insurance and my Condos. I am very grateful to them for their work, how friendly they were, their professionalism, their help, and additional help they provided me with a couple other things that came up as they were there working with the kitchen. The prices are very decent as well, especially around the holidays this was a definite concern going in. Hopefully most cost will be taken care of by insurance but the out of pocket cost I had was very reasonable. This is my first time working with the company but I would definitely recommend them to anyone else and use them in the future. Thanks everyone!

[Jan 5th 2016] Yesterday I called Roto for a clogged sink drain. the tech came out, quoted a price and did the work. The price was high but fair, I needed the job done and he was there and able to do it. Unfortunately when he was snaking the drain he shattered the ABS drain pipe elbow inside the ceiling of the basement. I did not realize at the time but the drain cleared only because it was leaking into my basement. I called Roto-Rooter back to address the problem and they kindly sent a plumber out to do the repair work. He patched it up and was on his way. After looking at the work done for a while it was just not sitting well with me as it looked fairly messy and was done differently then how it was done before. I searched around on the internet until I found the Ohio Building Code and reviewed some of the choices he made and it appears that the work was not done to code. He used a flexible rubber coupler attaching it to two female angle pieces. Per the building code these rubber connectors are allowed only in underground use. Further connecting it to two female ends will not work well as it will create a ridge or rough spot on the interior of the drain pipe (right at a 90degree corner none the less) which will make it prone to clogging in the future. I am not 100% sure if what was done is up to code in my area or not but there are several things that lead me to believe that it might not be. I have called and asked for a follow up we shall see if I hear anything back. [Jan 6th 2015] After a rocky start the team at Roto Rooter rose to the challenge. After speaking with the branch manager and explaining what happened in the 2nd visit they promptly sent another plumber out and he ripped out the original re-work that was not properly done and did it right. I found the management team there easy to get a hold of, responsive, and willing to do what was needed to get the job done correctly. It speaks volumes for them that in less then 24 hours they corrected the problem and did so with great attitudes.

Con artists, liars and thieves. AVOID Roto-rooter at all cost. They came to my house while I was out of town and only my wife at home for a clogged floor drain coming from the kitchen sink and laundry. After being there for over 2 hrs they said my drain was so clogged that he broke his auger while trying to clear the clog. They then proceeded to bring anther technician over with a camera and claimed they looked and found so much grade and build up that it was impossible to clear the clog. They then proceeded to tell my wife that they needed to tear up 4 ft of my concrete floor and replace the pipes underneath for around $5000. I then talked to them and said this seemed excessive and I would look into it when I got home. After we got off the phone they told her that it needed fixed immediately or it would cause major problems and that they needed to know right away. Eventually they left and charged us $350 for nothing with the hopes of scamming us into this job. 2 days later I returned home and had anther plumber come to the house. He laughed when I told them what they were trying to do and told me this is the 3rd time he had heard about Roto-rooter pushing to do this. He brought his auger in and cleared the clog in less than 10 min. Then proceeded to camera the drain and show me that there was very little build up in it. He charged me $150 to get the job done correctly and professionally and advised to never call them again. I honestly cannot believe that a business would try this type of scam seemingly because my wife was home by herself while I was out of town. Either they are the worlds worst/dumbest plumbers or they are the biggest scam artists in the business. Either way steer clear!!!
