Ive been going to Planet Fitness for closing in on 2 1/2 years - first at the Planet Fitness in Troy for a bit over a year, and when my wife and I bought a place in Fenton, I transferred my membership to the Owen Rd location. In December, I bought my wife a membership too, and weve both been going to the gym regularly since. Ive been very satisfied until tonight! I use almost exclusively the circuit training, as does my wife. When we came in today, the circuit machines had been moved to freshen things up. Thats fine, and good for the workout But the steps were all out of sequence, numerically. Clearly when the machines were moved, the steps were pulled to one side to move the machines about. However no one bothered to take the time to put them back in order. That seemed the most logical reason as to why they were jumbled. From 2 1/2 years of using the circuit, I can declare the circuit works best if other users know youre on step 7, and about to go onto machine 8 at the next light cycle. Because people come in to use one machine or two machines, but if they know youre on Step 7, theyre less likely to jump on Machine 8. Still happens, but less likely to. Well, I moved a few steps to try and get them back in order. An employee, a large blonde woman, came and asked me not to move the steps around (I was done at that juncture anyway). I explained to her, pleasantly at first, that the steps were all out of sequence from when the machines were moved, and I was just trying to restore some order. Youd think shed leave it at that point - but then she tried to tell me the trainers had deliberately moved all those steps out of order for some purpose, and I had interfered with the trainers and now the trainers were going to have to come in and repair all the disorder Id caused . LOL!!!! My BS detector was registering strongly at this point, and now Im starting to get angry because shes telling me lies just to defend her position! BTW, the steps Id moved were all spaced nicely apart, just like always, and in two nice neat rows. I explained "Ive been using the circuit at PF for 2 1/2 years, and Ive never seen steps jumbled up like this" And I restated that the equipment is numbered, sequentially, for a reason, and wouldnt the circuit work better for all involved if the equipment is kept in numerical order? Because, its a CIRCUIT? Hello? No, she told me people always just get on the step next to the machine theyre going on next. Like it had been that way before? Again, in 2 1/2 years never saw the steps out of sequence and moved about like She was clearly lying about the trainers - and it insulted my intelligence - and made me very angry. She even summed up with another lie before walking off - "Now the trainers will have to fix it, thank you very much!" So the trainers will come in and move the steps out of sequence? Yeah right! Not a pleasant experience - I came close to cancelling both my wife and my membership. In 2 1/2 years Ive had numerous members come into the circuit from the main floor and tie up machines for stack training, or cut in front of my wife or I to use the next machine in sequence, and Ive never seen this person ever come over or say anything. If I were carrying the steps about the facility and leaving them pell mell here and there, then sure, give me hell. But really? And Im 58 years old and a professional college educated manager - its not like Im some 17 year old kid screwing around. Really soured me on PF.

The staff isnt great, I see some new customers get tours while others are basically signed up and ignored (thats what happened when i signed up). (UPDATE- so far Ive been noticing tons of new customers getting at the least, a 1 on 1 general breakdown and questions answered. Still few tours.) Theres a girl with colorful hair who Ive overheard being snappy with others and generally seems to have a bad attitude. (Update- she seems to now be genuinely trying to be polite and smile) Theres a taller guy whose repeatedly ignored me signed in at the desk. Hes walked right past me, at the desk, signed in, to go get tanning set up for someone else he obviously knows, who was just walking in, not even through the door yet. Theres a longer dark haired guy who always seems dedicated and polite. Once it looked as though he had a migraine or something but was still the first to hop up and check someone in with a smile. Usually theres just a group of employees huddled around a computer who appear troubled when eventually pulling themselves away to help me. Ive reported hydrobed # 7 cuts out in the mid section sporadically to a girl whos polite but idk if she hasnt told anyone or management doesnt care. (Update- havent noticed #7 cutting out the last couple times) The hydrobed #6 smell gross. Idk if the padding under the cover needs to be washed or its just the cover but...eeeew! The massage chair closer to the doorway is lose when it gets to the lowest point, it moves and rattles excessively. (Update- was out of order for repair and now works) The womans bathroom soap dispensers give too small of a portion of soap and its next to impossible to get more without waiting a minute and even then, it usually just brakes. The sink water only allows cool water (warm/hot kill germs better and its flu season and this is a facility where there are so many people are touching everything). Lastly, the floor is bubbled throughout and causes tripping hazards. (UPDATE- Reported lose handles on bike, its already been repaired)

I dont even want to put a one star rating on this. I moved out of town, almost TWO hours away and needed to cancel my membership. They told me Id have to cancel the membership in person ONLY in the gym that I signed up in, or id have to send a certified letter. I sent the certified letter, paid money for it, to figure out THREE months later, that theyre STILL charging me for my membership. Now I know I shouldve caught this earlier, so I called telling them it shouldve been canceled and that I WASNT looking for a refund, just that I wanted it to be cancelled. They told me I need to send a new certified letter. I then asked if there was a way I could go to a branch in my home town to cancel and she told me she would transfer my membership, and that I need to go in before the 25th to cancel, or I would be charged my yearly amount AND the next months, but it took 3-5 days to transfer. I asked her if I could just drive the two hours and cancel it today so I couldnt risk being charged. She came up with all of these excuses on how she already transferred it, even though its not confirmed yet, so I could not. Honestly will NEVER have a membership at a Planet Fitness again, especially the one in FENTON, MI.
