Horrible Experience. Awful Managerial Staff. READ. Do not give anyone elses contact information for any reason. At initial sign up, I told the Sales Manager to please do NOT contact the people I put down for my VIP guest list. When he told me that I would have nothing to worry about, they would end up being contacted. I had to have another in-person conversation with the Sales Manager to stop contacting the people I put on my VIP guest list, and again the same conversation over the phone. I then called to cancel my membership due to the inconsistency of truth, and ended up getting into an argument with the same Sales Manager with 20+ years of experience (I only know that because he argued "I have been doing this longer than youve been alive!") Through all of the chaos he did tell me that 70% of what I have remaining on my duration would have to be paid before I can get out of my contract; $400+. I told him that I have no problem working out a deal due to my contract, but I am not paying that amount due to my treatment, and somehow, through going in circles about the same issue of soliciting, he started yelling and trying to defend his integrity and what type of man he is. After multiple times of telling him that I am not looking to argue, I am looking to move forward with my issue, I requested someone more in authority. I ended up speaking with the "House Manager". She wasnt any better. I calmly and collectively explained my situation and her response to my soliciting issue was, "When you sign up, you cannot come in here and start making demands!" I replied that I, as a customer, reserve full right to demand that myself and my guests are not to be solicited. At this point I have now argued with 2 Managers, who both have been less than satisfactory about my issue. I just wanted to see what sort of reasonable deal could be worked out, but in return I get argumentative responses, irrelevant subjective views of morale, and very poor treatment. Now I am frustrated, and quite frankly offended by my treatment. Im a Manager and prospective owner of a fitness facility, and I know just as well as they do about operations and contractual obligations. I was looking to work with them because I understand the business, but it is completely unacceptable of how they handled the situation. They %100 completely failed a customer. Bottom line, do not sign up at Powerhouse Ypsilanti.

1) I was shoved and punched by another member within 5 minutes of getting there my first time. They didnt terminate the other guys membership, despite having termination be a part of their stated rules for violence towards another member. I was also not allowed to get a refund on my membership, per the gyms owner. 2) The place is ridiculously expensive, considering the only thing that sets them apart from any other gym are a couple benches, a couple squat racks, and some heavier dumbbells. 3) If the price doesnt scare you away, watch out with that 12-month membership you get; if you dont cancel BEFORE the end of your 11th month, its going to cost you a MINIMUM of $70 to cancel. A cancellation must be made 30 days before you expect it to take effect. So if you cancel within, say, your twelfth month, youre going to be charged the normal $30/month for that 13th month. Add in on top of that their $40 yearly maintenance fee, and if you waited until your last month to cancel, youre paying 70 bucks to get out the door. Or if youre forgetful like me, and dont cancel until you realize your membership has already expired (which they dont give you any notice of), add $30 to that total. But yeah, other than that, the place is okay, lol.

I just returned home from this gym and thought I would see if other members were experiencing my frustration. I was shocked to see so many reviews, almost all of which were positive. While I like the large selection of modern equipment this gym has to offer, they are seriously slacking on some fundamentals. Upon entering the facility, there usually is no greeter. No need to renew my membership if nobody is checking me in. The overall cleanliness of the locker room is poor. It stinks, some soap and paper dispensers are empty, and trash overflows the waste receptacles constantly. There are many cardio machines that are broken. Often they are not broken mechanically, but either the user interface or TV is broken. The only drinking fountain is out of order but they are glad to sell you some water, if someone is at the front desk. They have spray bottles with rags lying around to clean the equipment. Disposable wipes are a much better option for a multitude of reasons. I have been to a lot of gyms in my day. WCC’s gym is one of the best in the area, but you will pay dearly. I like the affordability of Powerhouse but I have no intension of renewing my membership if things don’t change soon.

Be very careful about signing up with a membership! I am a former Marine and wanted to stay in shape so my girlfriend convince me to join this gym, as it was a convenient one exit down from my rental house in Ypsilanti. I went a few times and you are shoulder to shoulder in the small gym that gets packed with meat heads, so little to say I had to try and go at odd ball hours to avoid the rush. I just bought my first house in Pinckney and called to cancel my membership.... the people I had talked to would not allow any leniency on the matter, almost like I was talking to a robot they only wanted my money for the duration of my contract or a pay out of $250!!!! Save your money and go somewhere else they will not work with you if you have an event in your life come up...ie buy a house an hour away from the gym. I am not a rich man, I work very hard for the money I earn and feel betrayed by the people at Power House gym .

Signed up a year before they opened and was consistently told that they would be opening "soon"... Date was moved from late summer to early fall, December and then finally in Feburary. When they opened it was nice, classes were open and fun/free. A lot of what they told us was available was NOT, still havent seen the bike rack in front, tanning systems took over 8 months to get online, two showers is not enough for the number of people that work out in the morning, entertainment systems were always on the fritz. When membership was almost over, asked if I needed to do anything and was told no by the receptionist. Found out when I saw my cc bill that they still were charging me and was told I hadnt given my 30 day notice. Told them I was done and they still proceeded to charge me for 3 months and 1 service fee. Horrible management! Will NOT be back and highly recommend that others seek different gyms!

I am happy to inform you that the gym has exceeded my expectations compared to other gyms I have previously help membership at. I feel my powerhouse gym is more valuable than other gyms for several reasons. For $30 a month I am very please at how much the gym has to offer, specifically the class schedule. This is the first gym I have gone to that has the classes included in a reasonably priced membership fee. For me this is one of the main reasons I chose Powerhouse as I prefer to go to classes several times a week than work our independently in the gym. We also utilize the kids zone which has been great! My kids actually ask us if we can go to Powerhouse because they love the staff and the room set-up. We are very please with the gym so far and plan to continue our membership for as long as we live in the area.
