What a horrible place! Outrageous management! Before you read this review I want to mention that I don’t want anything from that place and the only purpose of it for people to know the truth about Lifetime Club. Some time ago my friend invited me to try Zoomba class in this fitness as a guest. So we did, I signed quickly some form at the entrance & filled in some personal info. Just a couple weeks before my birthday I got a PERSONAL INVITATION TO TRY A WEEK OF MEMBERSHIP WITH MY FAMILY FOR FREE. (The paperwork had a date and my name on it) So on my birthday, I went in the pouring rain to try it. Right at the entrance, as soon as receptionist saw this invitation I got the evil glare, knowing look & a phrase ”we have another one of those!” when she called for reception supervisor. Thinking it’s just THAT person. I was patiently waiting for shift supervisor to come & help me to fill my form for a week trial. Manager came and took my driver’s license and asked me “what I am doing here?” I politely answered that I came here on my birthday as it was mentioned on invitation for a trial of this fitness club. He looked at me in horror; like I stole something or killed somebody… looks between the staff were exchanged. “Maaam, you need to wait here. Don’t move! (????) Somebody going to see you! I waited patiently again for another 10 min. The man came & with a hateful face told me “Come to my office!” No smile or hello, no how are you or what’s your name…. The whole conversation started from “you know, you are breaking the company code…” All I was able to put “what?!?!” He said, that I am breaking some rules, by just showing up with this invitation, taking somebody space & time, not going to use this invitation just BECAUSE I was there before (my little phrase “that’s how you got my info” did do anything), there is a sentence in a little font mentioning once in 6 month visit on the original form I signed as a guest long time ago. My invitation didn’t have anything like that, but it is my entire fault. We said the invitations were send to EVERYBODY! (Wow!) Even with that invitation I am not going to be able to use anything, but running machines or weights (no pool, no classes, no anything…My third and last little question through his accusations “Why would you invite me on my BIRTHDAY TO JOING YOU & THEN KICK ME OUT?!? The invitation had my name and the dates (personalized!) Then his waterfall of nastiness would not stop: I got so much dirt on me, like never before in my life. Remember he didn’t know even my name! Who I am!? Or I even had a chance to answer any blames… The last & finalizing phrase of his speech was “I have to escort you out of the building!” All this time I was standing like a schoolgirl in the principal’s office, at the time he was sitting at his desk with the doors closed. Then he literally stood up and moved me by the shoulder… I walked out to the same pouring rain, sat down in my car & cried…. I cried from helplessness, from empty stupid accusations of something had nothing to do with me. More I thought about it, more it looked like well planed & practiced speech. The way the whole thing happened, I looked like I was not the only one. The little phrases from the membership guy like” The company send it to some *** like you, then we don’t want to support it.” What a way to treat the customers!!! What a way to bring more members PS The same evening at my big birthday party I asked my friends if anybody had same experiences. Sure enough … They’ve been there before & had their own sad stories to share about Lifetime Fitness, mentioning how stupid I was to believe this kind of invitation. (Probably truth) PSS YMCA forever! Was their member for last 10 years & will be for 10 more.

Lifetime is a mismanaged company, with absurd rules, and misguided policies. As an employee who has worked their twice (once in non-management and once in management), I can tell you from an employee standpoint AND a consumer standpoint that this club is very frustrating. As a consumer, I can verify all the horror stories about not letting guests in after 9pm (which is the only time the club actually becomes empty enough to workout in), but prospective members should know that during the summer months, you cannot bring guests in when the outside pool is open. I was told by the front desk staff at noon on a Wednesday that I couldnt bring a guest because they had the pool open during the summer and it was already too busy. This would have been somewhat acceptable, except there were no signs posted for the past 2 months I had been working out there on a daily basis. As an employee, I worked at the Rock Climbing wall. As an avid climber, I was shocked to see how many short cuts this company took. At the Commerce location, for example, they are OK with having holes in the rock climbing shoes (in the toes and heels!)... The ropes used are wayyyy beyond their life and should be retired. I literally was cutting up the old harnesses because the management refused to purchase new equipment. There is no organized system for collecting money for classes, and no accountability for properly trained staff. When I climb at LTF now, I use my own equipment (including a friend to belay) because you never know if youre going to be that "whoops" member who has a serious/fatal accident. Because of all of these experiences, I (just to verify the other post) and a lot of quality staff members refuse to work with LTF on a professional basis due to their commitment to their bottom line and not their members. In fairness, I am still a member because it is hard to find a gym that is more affordable to climb at and has a good variety of free weights or is 24 hours. Before I end this post, I might as well just list some other frustrations I have experienced lately (since Ive been home from the Military >1 year): - Little kids pooping in the pool. (Novi) - Calling the front desk about leaving my ipod there, they tell me I need to come in and ask them in person if it is there (even though I said I would provide a description and list all the songs on it). (Novi) - Staff not having an understanding of the sections they are in charge of. (Commerce) - Being charged a start up fee after I had come back from the military when they had told me prior that my membership was under a "military freeze" and not cancelled. (Novi) - Free weights and towels left all over the floor while multiple personal trainers are hudled around a computer laughing. (Novi & Commerce) - Basic equipment such as jump ropes locked up. (Novi & Commerce) The choice to join/stay a member is yours, but you do NOT get what you pay for at ANY of the MI clubs.

I love this place, I have developed many great relationships with many employees there. They have always served me to the best of their ability and I have also seen them serve others to the best of their ability. However, there was one issue that just happened. From January until last week, I was not able to workout due to a neck and spinal injury I suffered during a military operation. I came back to workout for the first time in 5 months and showed them my membership card, which they told me was still valid after scanning. I came in the following night to workout, and it was brought to my attention that my membership was deactivated back in March without my knowledge. Thanks to my brother Derryck Asbell, who was the only one willing to take the time to actually look into the situation, no money was being taken from me during my time off and the issue was thoroughly clarified. One other thing that I want to point out is that it has been very disappointing using the workout area. The women that go to workout there dress like theyre trying to go there to get pregnant instead of actually working out. Which makes it even worse, is seeing gentlemen taking off their wedding rings and hiding them so they can give those girls the attention they want. One young lady in particular chooses to wear see-through leggings without any under garments and does nothing but bend over in front of every male working out. Maybe I take purity and marriage a lot more serious than most people, but I have no interest in exercising in what is now almost becoming a home for prostitutes.
