After looking at the Public Storage website I still had a couple questions about the unit I would be renting, so I called the Customer Service phone number. I spoke with a friendly rep named Shawna (sp?), who was helpful in answering my questions. As she (Im assuming) is trained to do, she got my information in the system so she could reserve a unit for me. The website was offering an "Online Only" promotion of $34 per month and first month only $1. Of course I know these are specials offered, in order to entice customers into renting at that specific location and most likely, thats not what youll actually end up paying. Im aware. However; upon making the reservation with Shawna and clearly expressing that price was definitely something I was concerned about, she advised the price would actually be $42 per month and $1 for the first month because the specific units that were still available were not part of that promotion. Ok, $8.00 more per month, Ill deal. I thanked Shawna and we hung up. Shortly thereafter I received a call from whom I believe is the Store Manager, Tres, and we set up an appointment time to come look at the unit. Once we arrived at the store, he was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable in answering any questions and also in trying to up-sell the unit size, after hearing what all we had to store. We did keep the original size, but Tres did a great job in all facets. Heres where it took a turn and why I rated 3 Stars and not 5.... When the time came to sign the rental paperwork, Tres advised me that insurance on the unit is mandatory, with the minimum charge of $11 per month added to the rate. Additionally; a Public Storage "approved" lock is added to the bill, at $22.00!!! I asked if I could provide my own lock and Tres said unfortunately; its their policy that the customer arrive on-site with said lock if they want to provide their own, at the time of rental agreement signing. This would have been really good information to know, PRIOR to coming in to check out the unit. We stopped in to sign on the way to meeting our movers and were on a tight schedule, otherwise just for the pure principle of it, I would have located a different storage location. There were multiple opportunities to inform me of these extra mandatory charges before I arrived to sign, yet they were never advised. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth, in additional to what seems to be "false advertising" between what the website offers and what is actually available. I wish this hadnt happened, because Tres did a great job and I would have loved to give a 5-star rating. If it were based solely on him, I would have for sure!

Over all the 20+ years that I/family & friends have done business with Royal Oak Public storage, I have never met another woman as Jan who has Operated and Maintained this Particular Business over all these Years as She herself has, Shes maintained great communication with all those she comes in contact with including the Customers, She always goes the extra mile for those in need especially keeping the Grounds & All Units Cleaned, She is well Respected by all So many & for that She needs to be Recognized for All the Long Hard Years & All Her Dedication, All Her Accomplishments, that have Grown Roots for Royal Oak Public Storage & for All Those that Jan has helped & Served Over All the Years, God Bless that Woman for I would only do business with Jan & Ashly at this location & No One Else..

After shopping various storage facilities, I stopped into your royal oak facilitiy and have never looked back. The location brought me in, but Janice Tatarian, the property manager, has kept me coming back as a loyal customer. I have encountered many business personal in my field, but never as unique, kind, and personable as she has proven to be each and every time I have been into the office or spoken to her on the phone. She is helpful, polite, extremely knowledegable, and brings a lighthearted energy that is rare and truly hard to find in the business world today. Your company truly has a gem in Jan and because of her I recommend your business to anyone who could be a potential renter!

We rented an indoor, climate-controlled unit from Public Storage in Royal Oak, MI for less than 2 months while we were in the process of moving. It was very clean and well kept! The level of security was also nice - I often went during the day while my husband was working and felt fine being there alone. The staff was extremely friendly - Mary helped us. She even called us after we moved our things into the unit to see if we were happy with it! She also helped us cancel our unit and get a refund since we paid for a full two months (we settled into a home earlier than anticipated). Id recommend this storage facility and would use it again.

I am pleased with the customer service and facilities at this Public Storage! From initial arrangements in May 2012 through my most recent visit less than a week ago (September 2013), Mary and Jan are always thorough, clear, capable with the information and guidance I seek. They consistently provide superior customer service and professional expertise in a collaborative atmosphere of strong teamwork. I appreciate their work; the facility is clean, well-appointed and -equipped, secure. Glad I found this place!

Jan is wonderful manager who goes beyond the call of duty to help her customers. I so appreciated her concern and hospitality last month as I waited for a locksmith, finding that I had called one of the many scam companies!!! After 3 hours of waiting, The Birmingham Locksmith Service came to my rescue. Apparently locksmith scammers are quite common. Beware!! My greatest compliments to Jan as she saw me through to a successful move out! The warmth of her office and personality made a big difference!

Jan, the friendly, professional, pleasant employee gets a 5!!! Our experience on our first visit (obtaining the storage space) was not a good one at all (the clerk was not Jan for that visit), very unpleasant and we planned on never coming back. However, upon clearing out our storage space and closing our account, Jan made it a really pleasant experience. Even her payment reminder phone calls were delightful. If we had a business, we would steal her as an employee! Just a wonderful lady!

I have had a storage unit full of cherished family heirlooms at this Royal Oak location for years and Jan has always helped me with any questions Ive had. Ive had to maintain this unit from across the country and I have to say, Jan has always made everything easy and seamless for me which is much appreciated when you live out of state. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking for a trusted storage space. And ask for Jan!! She will take good care of you!

I have nothing but great things to say about Public Storage on Coolidge. From the moment I walked in Jomar was smiling and very helpful. I came in stress out and with in a few minutes I forgot I was moving. I had the pleasure of meeting Jan as well and she was awesome. The two of them were professional and knowledgeable. Jan had a plate of cookies today when I came back to finalize my unit. I felt like I was at grandmas house. Thank you for a great job!
