1/6/2014 Update: A couple weeks after I posted this review, I received a call from the Midas in Deephaven (the Midas that had ended up replacing my battery after I went running scared from EP). Turns out the Deephaven Midas and the EP Midas are owned by the same people. They had seen this review and apologized for my poor experience with the Eden Prairie Midas and they offered me a free oil change. They said EP is really good and that I should give them another try to see if I might change my mind about them but I said after my experience I didnt think I could ever trust them again though I do trust Deephaven. I told them I would update this review but my opinion of their EP location stayed the same. Clearly there are issues in the EP location that need to be taken care of. The whole situation just stinks to high heaven, especially the fact that they have no record of me being at the EP location for a car estimate to begin with. I like the Deephaven location very much and trust them completely but they very much need to have a better handle on their Eden Prairie shop.end update These guys are crooks when it comes to a young woman looking for a battery change. We recently had a long cold snap there in Minnesota when my car completely failed to start (I own a 2003 Ford Focus). It had all the signs of a dead battery but I hadnt left my lights on. I got it running fine by jumping it but it died two more times in the next 24 hours. I figured I needed to get the battery replaced since I hadnt replaced it since I bought the car and it was so bitterly cold for so long it probably snapped. I ended up trying this place since my parents had a very good relationship with a Midas in Deephaven and it was close to my work. I called ahead to make an appointment at 5:15 that day. I arrived and everyone was courteous enough telling me they will run some quick tests on my cars starting ability (I just wanted them to replace the battery). I ended up waiting 50 minutes for the results and they were only given to me when I stepped up to the counter and made my presence known. I dont know how long they had the results for but 50 minutes for a simple bunch of tests after I had called ahead (even if it was at the end of the day) seems excessive. Anyway, they told me what I already suspected that my battery needed replacement. Ok-- I figured that. What I didnt figure was that they said my alternator also needed to be replaced. For battery, serpentine belt, and alternator replacement and an oil change (I never asked for an oil change or serpentine belt replacement, they just threw them in there), the estimate was $950! this included labor and parts according to them. The price tag threw me. I dont know too much about cars but even to me that sounded ridiculous. They wanted to charge me $330 for the alternator part alone. I asked if I could simply get the battery replaced and think about the alternator. The guy said it wouldnt matter, if the alternator is bad a new battery wouldnt help and I should get it all done in one go. Well, I got the hell out of there angry that they wasted my time and tried to obviously over charge me. The kicker is that when I went to the Midas in Deephaven that knew my family and was a shop we knew we could trust, they tested my alternator and said it was perfectly fine. They said the issues I was having was 100% the fault of my battery being dead. They replaced my battery and gave me an oil change (this one I actually asked for) for only $175 (their battery replacement cost $20 less than the Eden Prairie Midas). So buyer beware of this Midas especially if you are a woman. I dont know if their testing machine was out of whack or they flat out lied to me but either way they seem like bad news and I would recommend avoiding them like the plague.

I love Midas in Eden Prairie. I first came here after being mistreated at 2 other local establishments in Eden Prairie. Midas had NEVER been pushy with me. They are wonderful at squeezing me in last minute if I need them too. They have always gotten the work done on my car in a timely manner. My husband and I drive our cars a lot, so we have to bring our cars in more often then most people do. Whenever we get an estimate for work to be done, they will tell us what needs to be done asap and what can wait. Then they let us make a decision and do only the work we want them to. We used to live in Eden Prairie when we first came here. We have since moved, but we still make the drive out to Midas regularly because we trust that the work they do will be quality work, they will give us the best deal that they can, they wont try to upsell us on unnecessary work, and they will treat us with a professional and friendly manner. We wont go anywhere else! Someone named Oliva left a review on here bashing Midas, but after reading this review by her I am left shocked. To complain that a company decided to run tests on your car to determine what the problems were before blindly believing a customer (a new client who they never met before) and fixing said problems is absurd. Of course they are going to run tests first and yes this might take awhile if your car has multiple problems to diagnose. I can understand your being confused as to why one place might say your alternator is good and one place might say it needs to be replaced. When car parts start going bad they can work good for awhile and then not work for awhile. All your mechanic can do is test your car while its there to see what the results are.The cold may be another factor. Im no auto expert, but based on the age of your car alone, it sounds very plausible that you are due for a new alternator especially if you are having trouble starting your car. Yes it may cost a lot of money to fix car problems, but a mechanic is just like any other business and pricing is based on the expenses needed to remain open. Midas in Eden Prairie is always fair with their pricing and will always try to give you the best deal they can and sometimes will even throw in small services for free. Where else can you get a better deal? I have know Dylan, Jason, and many of their mechanics for many years now and they are not the kind of people who try to scam people out of money. They run a legal, professional, business and top of the line work. EP Midas Rocks!

I brought my car here a handful of times. First for oil changes, then to get new tires, fix a coolant leak and also had a ball joint replaced. In total, Ive spent well over $3,000 and was impressed with their service until I realized every time I went in for an oil change, Dylan the manager tried to sell me some additional service or tell me I needed to get something else on my car fixed. After being in the shop multiple times and seeing the way he interacted with me and other customers, I better understood how their system works. As a younger female, Im no stranger to dealing with slimey car repair shops and managers pushing to sell unnecessary and expensive services. I usually expect it when I go into a shop for the first time. At first, I enjoyed receiving a few free oil change coupons after spending hundreds of dollars on a single repair but after this happened multiple times, I couldnt help but feel it was only bait for a much larger sale in the future. It appears they also like to hand these out to attempt to fix a customers bad experience. I needed a tire patched up because it had a leak from a nail. I recently moved out of Eden Prairie and called Midas to find out when I had bought my tires and other information so I could take my car somewhere closer to where I live. Without hesitation Dylan told me to bring my car in and theyll take a look at it but I may need to buy a new set of tires altogether since its getting to be "about time to replace them". The tires he wanted to replace (that I had bought from him 2 years prior) were in excellent condition, had little wear and the tread was great. All I needed was to get that tire patched or at most, buy ONE new tire. This was the red flag that pushed me to write a review. When I first brought my car to this location years ago, I looked at the reviews and saw similar stories about the current sales staff but for convenience sake, I brought my car here anyways. Ironically, those negative reviews have now been removed from Google/Yelp. Obviously Im not a mechanic and many people that read these reviews probably arent either so beware of their sales tactics and always get a second opinion from another shop!
