Three weeks ago I made an appointment with CARX and they diagnosed my car. I scheduled an appointment to get it fixed for the following week. Kirk estimate the cost of the work and how long it would take. He said it was about a 1 hour job. I arrive to my appointment a week later and Kirk was on vacation. Suddenly Ray is telling me that it is going to take 3 hours. I told him that Kirk said 1 hour and I will not have the work done until Kirk comes back. Then they tell me that the wrong part was ordered. I rescheduled for a week later for when Kirk would be in. The day of my appointment I tried to call several times during my work day and before my appointment to make sure my part was in. Kirk was too busy to talk to me. I called when I was on my way to CARX and I did talk to Kirk and I told him about my situation. He said that his employees did not update or inform him about this situation and he said he would call me right back to let me know that my part was in and safe to come in. I waited an hour and half and I called their and Kirk was too busy to talk to me. I attempted several times to get through to him. I did not get my car fix nor did I ever get a call back. I had my friend call who referred me to CarX and he could not get through to Kirk either. So he ended up talking to Ray. My friend told Ray that he had his brakes done their and he referred his girlfriend to go their. Explained that my situation is needing attention and he was very disappointed in the way they are handling this. He asked them to figure out how to make this right and to have Kirk call him back.. It has been 4 days and still no call back. Unreliable!!! Do Not Trust Them For Major Work!!! Also, they buy their parts from (in my situation) KIA. KIA charges $165 for part and CAR X charges you the customer $30 more for the part. I was able to get my car into KIA for a lower rate/final fee. I would not recommend going to CAR X for any major work. Oil change maybe if you dont go on a bad day. I do not trust them. Kirk said to me on one of my first visits that you have to find one place that is honest and trusting to work on your car. I thought that they would be the one. My first visit they tried to charge me $100 more than the estimate. Hello.. I did not pay that extra $100.. I got my estimate price. So really they were messing up on my first visit but I tried to excuse it with being an error. Do Not Go To Them.. They are UNTRUSTING, UNRELIABLE, and DISHONEST.

Updating my 1 star to a 3.5 (if I could). Story: As a walkin customer I asked if they could squeeze me in for an oil change and check my brakes. They were busy but said they could squeeze me in. It took a long time but rather understandable as a walkin with no appointment. I realized not quite a week later my oil cap was stuck under the front of my car hood and oil had been spilling out, doing a lot of driving on gravel roads during that time did not help, lost a quart of oil and I was pissed. I called the shop, no apology, no refund, offered an engine wash which I viewed as an errand. I was not happy. Decided to get the engine wash as I thought maybe they just needed proof, since I was a first time customer, I also made sure Kirk the manager would be there since he had good reviews on here. They washed the engine, Kirk apologized for the error and after I requested it again gave me a refund plus a coupon for a free oil change. I have a bad taste in my mouth from that initial phone call (will skip details) and all the time/headache I had to invest in this oil change but in the end Kirk did make things right. In there defense the shop was pretty busy when they squeezed me in so I can see how this simple mistake could happen and I was a new customer so I can also understand being skeptical of me as a customer asking for my money back on an error that is improbable. Not sure if I will go back, seemed like a nice shop besides this stupid oil cap issue, but in my experience If you have a problem make sure to speak with Kirk. -Chad Sandell

My friend took his vehicle in this shop in late May 2010. His car was overheating. The shop performed a diagnosis of the cooling system for $75 and recommended a thermostat replacement, which they were going to charge $150 for. I told my friend that a thermostat is $9 and would take my 30min to install, so he had the car towed back to my place. When my friend told the mechanic that they would be getting the thermostat done elsewhere, the mechanic was surprised and disappointed--he thought they just scammed my friend into spending another $150. I did the thermostat (a very easy job [on most cars] for anyone with any DIY skill). At this point I noticed the radiator fan was not coming on. CarX specifically noted on their diagnosis that the fan was coming on. That was an outright lie. We took the car to Precision Auto Care in Eden Prairie and they found the radiator fan motor to be faulty. They replaced that and no more problems. In short, the CarX people lied to my friend and recommended replacing something that was functioning properly. CarX knew that my friend knows little about cars and was going to capitalize on this fact as much as possible. I would highly recommend going elsewhere for your auto care needs, because this place is either 100% dishonest or 100% incompetent--maybe a mix of both.

Kirk and the group at Car-X were GREAT! I called as I needed a fan belt on my truck and this was the 3rd call I made to repair shops in the area. Kirk was the FIRST guy I talked to who gave me straight, to the point information! All other stores I talked to gave me doom and gloom, and I may as well toss my $35,000 truck in the junk yard because I lost a belt and the damage done (without looking at it or asking me questions they should have) was too great. Kirk stated he was fairly booked for the day, but they stated they would do their best to get me in, saying he needed to see the vehicle prior to giving me ANY news. Well, after about an hour.....Kirk had the belt replaced and said there was no damage to my motor. He gave me a list of things that SHOULD be done (Not HAD to be done) to the vehicle, and made sure I watched out for a few things in the future. That was a year ago, and to this day, I have broght my Nissan 350Z to him for tires, and one of the things he mentioned in my 1st visit was I had a leaking head gasket on my truck, so he is performing a head gasket replacment (NOT a "minor" job!!!) as I write this! From belts and tires, to a COMPLEX job like head gaskets......This is my FULL service repair shop! Honest, fair, and friendly! What else can you ask for!
