I contacted Roto-Rooter after accessing their website via Angies List as we had sewage backing up from our basement main drain. No better day than Memorial Day to be dealing with this kind of problem! Happily, the website stated there was no extra charge for weekend or holiday work! The woman I spoke with on the telephone was very professional and asked if we had standing water in the basement. When I told her we did, she asked if we also wanted help clearing and cleaning up the mess! Thankfully the situation wasnt that bad, but I was impressed they also offered those kinds of services. Then I was delighted and impressed again when she told me the service technician would be there within the hour. Lets remember THIS IS MEMORIAL DAY TOO! About 40 minutes later TJ arrived ready to take a look at the problem, and do the job. TJ handled himself in a very professional manner. He came in, assessed the situation, explained what he was going to do, how much it was going to be, what issues might occur that would involve more money and was very friendly and confident he could successfully open the drain. Once we signed the release and TJ was ready to start bringing in his equipment, he brought in a narrow tarp that he put on our basement staircase before he starting bringing the equipment in to protect the carpeting. We appreciate it very much when someone comes in to do work in our home and respects our home. All in all TJ was here just a little less than an hour and did in fact sucessfully open our drain. Needless to say we were happy and grateful. We were also happy to have been able to use the website coupon to get a $40 discount. Throughout this entire process Roto-Rooter was very professional, did what they said they were going to do, in the time frame they promised and got the job done with as little mess and fuss as possible. TJ was outstanding and not only did a great job opening the drain, but respected our home the entire time he was here!

On June 1, our basement sewer backed up while doing laundry. We called Roto Rooter as we did in the past. The gentleman was late because of traffic. OK, that happens. First he cleaned the line from the cloths washer to the basement sewer drain. Good so far. Then he cleaned from the drain to the toilet inlet until the back up water drained, then cleaned and flushed the area around the sewer of backed up debris. I said I wanted to check it by filling the kitchen sink with water (located immediately above the cloths washer) and pulling the plug. He packed up his equipment and asked my wife for payment while the sink was filling. I had done this flushing on several previous visits by other roto rooter people. They left the equipment in place and said that flushing the drains in this manner was a good idea. Sometimes this check showed the drain was clean and sometimes not. When I pulled the plug to check the system the basement sewer backed up. The gentlemen was not happy when he went to get his equipment again. He cleaned again while we flushed the system from the sink. It took several cleanings/flushing before the system worked. He picked up his equipment and left having been paid earlier. Although he had cleaned the debris from the sewer area once, he did not clean the debris from around the basement sewer when he left. I hope this is an unusual incident. As I said, when we had Roto Rooter before, those gentlemen thought the check was a good idea and left their equipment in place until we were satisfied the sewer was clear and they cleaned up the debris when the job was done.

Had someone come out to add a hot water line under the sink for my dishwasher. I had been told previously that my pipes were crossed and my dishwasher had been hooked up to cold water. Let me add that I know absolutely zero about plumbing and after attempting some work under there myself, realized I needed to call in a professional. The man that came assured me that he was going to take care of my problem, repair what I had broken, and get me a working HOT water line for my dishwasher. After he finished up and left I noticed that I still did not have hot water for my dishwasher, felt the pipes under the sink and noticed that the side of my old hookup (that now no longer existed) was indeed a hot (to touch) pipe. So the technician didnt even check my water lines before doing the work that needed to be done --- $500+ dollars later... all that needed to be done was a small repair. We had our dishwasher line moved for no reason. Dont understand how someone wouldnt check the pipes before doing the work. Had to call back and wait for someone else to come out and fix the error. The second man who came out was wonderful. Very professional and apologetic. He had the issue fixed quickly. We were also contacted by a manager a few days later and he worked with us to reduce the bill for the extra, unnecessary work that was done and the extra parts that were used but not needed. It is nice to see a company with the professionalism and willingness to admit it has made a mistake, and work with you to get it right.

The connection from our dishwasher drain to the kitchen sink drain cracked, leaking a good load of water onto the floor. Roto Rooter was available to come out the next morning (versus our home warranty services provider who couldnt come out for three days). They scheduled a 9am-1pm window, called about 30 minutes before they came out, and showed up about 30 minutes after calling, just as they said they would. The plumber, Don, was friendly and knowledgable. He analyzed and fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. Our dishwasher has an unusual drain connector (it has 2 drawers and therefore 2 drains connected by a Y-connector). He managed to work around that and route the two drain hoses into the two separate drains under our sink. Now if one cracks in the future, we can still use the other drain and dishwasher drawer. The repair wasnt cheap ($287, and it would have been $235 if wed ordered and waited for a new Y-connector), but it was done well and quickly. Scheduling was easy online, and their communication was excellent (on the scheduling call (they call you after you submit the request online) and via email they communicated about the 4-hour window, 30-minute warning call, and that the plumber would analyze and estimate before starting any work). Id definitely call them again, although if its not an emergency I might wait for the home warranty service ($75) or see if another plumber is as good and cheaper.

This is my second go-around with RR My current experience was less than stellar. I am the type of customer to review both outstanding experiences as well as poor experiences. I called RR with a blocked main line. There was standing water in my basement drain. The experience I had entailed a technician that found every possible way to state that RR would not have access to snake the main line. There was clean-out access to the main line that was ideal (set back about 3 ft from teh stack) , however the technician would not attempt as he was afraid hed "punch through" the pvc pipe. Same with an upstairs toilet as well as a basement toilet (all PVC). The access suggestions were all viable and had sturdy pipe. No suggestions other than "Having an outfit that would cable the line from the roof" No one does this in my area. Horrible, horrible suggestion. After talking through all of the "I cants" with the tech we ended the conversation with him not being able to do anything. I called a different outfit a half hour later, who made it to my home within the half hr (at 11pm) This outfit used the clean-out I showed RR and had the main line cleared in 20 minutes. A full 70 ft run all the way to the street. Small cleanup, threaded on the cap and was finished. I can only assume RR wants to do the in and out jobs and if there is the smallest challenge they appear to like to defer.
