So... joined last month and havent had time to work out yet because of my very busy schedule. Went today and was told I couldnt work out or get my tag because I didnt have a cancelled check. I told them I dont use checks at all, Im completely paperless (it is 2017 after all). I pay all bills online, with a credit card, or auto pay. I asked to speak to the manager, who had no information or logical explanation at all. I had my routing number and account numbers, 6 major credit cards, and agreed to sign a bank draft authorization form, all of which were not acceptable to him! He said I had to go to my bank (which is closed now), and get a form from them... WTH!!! I told him I wanted to speak to the owner since he said it was not a corporate owned Planet Fitness and he said the owner doesnt speak to customers- REALLY?! Now thats impressive. I then told him I dont patronize companies where owners hide from their clients and asked him to cancel my membership and refund any money they took from my bank. I was told he could not do that. Of course, my next question was obvious... if you say you arent authorized to withdraw money from my account without the form you want me to go get from my bank, then how did you take my money? He said to email the regional manager! I said Ive never even been in the gym, and signed up online, yet is answer was I dont know if they will give you a refund (but Im not allowed to use the gym)! I pay all my bills by way of auto pay or credit card but this owner wont do what EVERY other business will do! Shady, ignorant, and obviously is scared of people canceling! That speaks volumes of how this business is operating. I will happily pay more to go to a real gym now. STAY AWAY FROM PLANET FITNESS!!!

I went to sign up for the 2 black memberships. Upon entering, I was greeted by a sour faced front desk person as if she was annoyed by my existence or that she had to work in general. I still smiled and was pleasant as I thought that anyone can have a bad day. I asked what was needed to sign up. I was told that I should get a “Direct Deposit form from my bank”. I asked if they meant “Direct Debit” as I will be paying to them and not the other way around. Her response was “No, deposit!” and then she went on to incorrectly explaining what is a direct Deposit. Then she had an additional employee try to tell me the same thing. Arrogant, Untrained, and Uneducated. Red Flag! I decided not to sign up at that location as they are not trustworthy. I cannot trust these people with my financial information. If they do not understand the basic terminology, and they are too arrogant to listen to the customer. The arrogance of the employees leads me to believe they are not properly trained and there is a lack of leadership. I do not want people like that dealing with my financial information. If ID theft is not happening, it is just a stone’s throw away. I decided to go to another planet fitness in East Orange. At least they were trained and courteous.

This gym is a great place to workout, never crowded (well, rarely) and is clean. I did get great use out of the training that was provided and by the classes of no more than 5 that were available weekdays. I did learn a great deal from the instructor/trainer and was pushed to my limits but needed that push to get me to where I was hoping to be. Now, however, the classes have changed and from what I understand there are no more formal classes. Just a guide through the machines and the trainer is available to answer any questions. WHY WAS A PERFECTLY GREAT WAY OF TEACHING CHANGED INTO A RATHER TWILIGHT ZONE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO. IT SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF MEMBERS HAVE DROPPED OUT BECAUSE THE CAMARADERIE IS NO LONGER THERE! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Jeff do his job (which he does very well, thank you!) and let us members reap the benefits of Jeffs knowledge. Please. Going to the gym is just not the same. I have no idea what the reviewer before me is complaining about. Ive been a member at this Planet Fitness location for nearly two months, and it has never been as dramatically crowded as Germaine says it is. Ive gone at every time of the day: 5AM, 12PM, 4PM, etc. There is a good amount of people during those times, but NEVER over-crowded to the point where there are lines or people sitting at tables waiting to use equipment. There are ALWAYS plenty of treadmills, bikes, strength machines, etc. As for Germaines claim that "there are a large amount of people in there that otherwise would not go to the gym" DUH, its a gym! Last time I checked people go to gyms to get into shape! This Planet Fitness location is very clean, equipment is in excellent condition, and is more aesthetically pleasing than the other Planet Fitness location I have been to.

Gym is way over crowded and missing alot of machines. I also tried to cancel multiple times but they kept asking me to come back because they had to clear some charges only when a specific manager was there since only he could remove those charges before they could cancel my membership. The manager did what he could but told me I had to write a letter to corporate which I did but then later the owner said he could not help me. So now I have a huge balance since they kept billing me every month since this I first met with them. There contract is a scam and they want to squeeze you for every penny. They tried to charge me an annual fee when I was cancelling and they still are trying, how does this make sense when I wont be there for the year.

I dont understand why I need to bring a check... i signed up online to avoid bringing any info from my bank...just to be told that they charged me the 20.00 fee but if I dont bring a check or direct deposit paperwork they wont let me come in. So I cancelled and than to find out they still might charge me on 17th...I signed up this week and I had until the 17 to bring the info. I dont understand why they need a check so bad when the paperwork u sign only asks for ur routing number and checking... none the less that little issue got me so annoyed I didnt want to even bother with them. Quick to take my money.

This gym while nice interior is very slimy when it comes to their business practices. Wont let you pay for a year, needing to link directly to your bank account. Hidden fees and service charges, while stated in your "contract" that is not a contract. All smoke and mirrors to milk you for every dollar as long as possible. Dont trust this place! Dont give a gym access to your bank account and bring a magnifying glass and a lawyer and go over this document that they want you to sign that isnt a binding contract, until they need it to be a binding contract.
