I decided to book an appointment with La Jolie after reading all of the wonderful reviews about the salon. I called on a Sunday and was able to get an appointment for the next day. The receptionist explained to me their tier system, which I was familiar with after checking out their website. I told her I was comfortable booking in any tier, I just wanted to get in ASAP. Perhaps that was a mistake. I got an appointment with a tier 1 stylist as Im not a believer that you have to pay more for a great haircut. Ive gotten awesome haircuts at the hair cuttery, it really just depends on the individual person cutting your hair. The specific cut I wanted was an inverted bob with a clippered nape, with the hair falling just over the clippered hair and precision cut... sounds tricky but its really not, I had a picture. So, the chick gets started, I really dont feel like its necessary to call her out and post her name here. It all seems to be going good the front is looking awesome. When shes done she shows me the back and its not clippered at all, she basically stacked the back. So I was like can you go back and clipper it, I want it just like the picture. And she said ok then made it a bit shorter but it still wasnt right so I asked her to try again. So now she goes back, clippers it to my skin, with no guard, honestly I couldnt have gotten a shorter cut with a razor, but only like an inch up. It just looked so stupid thats when I realized she wasnt capable of giving me the cut I wanted and said it was fine and got the hell out of there. I think she could tell I wasnt completely satisfied because she was all like "If you have any problems in the next couple of days come back and Ill fix it for you." Also, the girls up front were going overboard telling me how great it looked. Which, I will say the front looked really good. But the back was chopped, I had to wait for some of the hair to start growing back, about a week, and then I went to the hair cuttery and had it blended. The girl who fixed it at the hair cuttery honestly just sounded like she knew so much more than the La Jolie stylist. I think her problem was that she didnt have full size clippers, they were mini clippers and she didnt have any guards. I know that some people are really great with clipper over comb technique, but she is not one of those people. I feel like as a stylist if you arent comfortable doing a cut you should just say so. I was dissapointed. I still dont have the cut I wanted because she stacked the back and added so many layers that my hair was basically too short for me to do what I wanted. I will not be going back to La Jolie. They did call me about two or three weeks after my appointment to ask me how my experience was, but I didnt get the call (they left a message) and I didnt feel like calling them back. If I gave the girl three chances to get it right and she couldnt, why would I try again? Bottom line, customer service is excellent, quality of Tier 1 stylists, in my experience - poor. If youre going to give this salon a try go for Tier 3.

Incompetence is bad on its own. Lack of professionalism is bad on its own. The two in conjunction are hard to find, but you can find both here....with a 200 dollar pricetag! La Jolie had a great reputation in Princeton when I last lived there a few years ago. I returned to Princeton to have engagement photos taken and made an appoint to have my hair and make-up done. All i wanted was a simple blow dry. I had my hair cut at my home salon in a different state that week, and had the stylist take pictures for me to bring to the salon. It was a simple blow dry, so the pictures were probably overkill....so i thought. The stylist managed to blow out my hair into some type of mullet-looking thing. I repeatedly asked her just to blow it dry, but she insisted she knew better. She asked what type of product i use. I dont use much because my hair is so straight that product makes it look weighed-down and greasy. She used about 10. My hair weighted about 20 lbs by the time I left and it didnt move. Unfortunately for me, the know-it-all stylist was also doing my make-up that day. We went upstairs to the make-up area, me almost in tears. For some reason i decided to stay. The make-up actually was ok. Just ok. My hair, however was still a hot mess. At the end of the make-up session i asked her again to fix my hair, and she said "Ill be right back," and went downstairs to the styling area and never returned. I purchased the lipstick she used during the make-up session. When i got home, i realized it was the wrong color. No only was in the wrong color, it was really really really wrong. She used a light gloss on me, and this was fire-engine red. I was already pressed for time, as i only had a short period to change for the photo session, and now do my hair myself by washing it in the sink and starting over. I returned to the salon before our photo session, as both were in town. I asked the ladies at the desk to exchange it, and they gave me sass. Oh, and this whole awful experience, a (terrible) blow dry and make-up, cost over $200. If you want a fake mullet, go here. If you like asking for a hair style and getting a fake mullet instead, go here. If you dont want either of these, stay away.

I went for a walk-in nail appointment on a Saturday early evening. They fit me into the last slot. Slightly pretentious desk-ladies, but they were nice enough - one helped me look for a new shampoo and another got me a drink. This was the best manicure I have EVER had - and I get my nails done often. My standards are high and the woman exceeded them - I forget her name, but it started with an "L" - Lordes (?). At the time, I had a nail polish called CND Shellac on my nails. Although the tech was not familiar with this polish, she agreed to remove it anyway (I told her how)... She buffed, cleaned, clipped and shaped those puppies until they shined - I almost wanted to walk out without polish they were SO PRETTY!! The owner came over to ask how everything was going - she was polite, enthusiatic and friendly. Great way to keep customers coming back! I opted for the Gelish manicure - great choice. Like the Shellac and Axxium polishes, it is painted on like regular polish, then set with UV lights, so it lasts MUCH longer. Im on day 16 and they still look COMPLETELY perfect!!!! I got a bright pinky-orange, and I just received a compliment on my manicure yesterday. My friend said, "They still look great - did you get them done again?" And the answer was nope - same mani from over 2 weeks ago!!! Lordes (I think thats her name) took the upmost care to get the polish over with whole nail and even out my ridges, which can make polish look uneven. She stayed 15 minutes after the salon offically closed to make sure my nails were completely perfect and dry. A great value too. I think I paid $45 including tip, which as a Philadelphia-girl, its worth the trip to Princeton; less expensive, superior atmosphere and absolutely great results. Great quality, service and craftsmanship. I will be booking my next appointment today for this weekend - only because I am getting sick of the bright pink I choose for my nails - otherwise Im sure theyd be fine for a whole month!
