Do not use Dumbo Moving. We had several issues with our move but for the sake of focusing on the main issue of damages to our property, let me get right down to the two incidents that I want you to know before considering hiring them. 1. During our move a large hole was punched through a wall at the top of our stairs. I immediately pointed it out the the movers and they shrugged it off and said to contact the claims department. 2. A large radiator was removed from our bedroom, at our request. The head mover said that his crew could handle it. I pointed out that the radiator could not touch the wood floors, and that we had it set on cardboard to avoid scratching the surface of our refinished floors. When I was out of the room, the crew took the radiator off of the cardboard and pushed it on the floor. This immediately causes a large scratch. I hear from the downstairs a loud “CHUNK” lift “CHUNK” lift and ran to the stairs. They had moved the radiator, but continually set it down heavily on our stairs without any protection causing little half moon 1/8” chunks all the way from our bedroom out to the curb. I pointed this out to the crew, visibly upset, and they told me to contact the claims department. The claims department is one man. Anthony. We reached out to him where he immediately accused us of not filing the claim fast enough. I pointed out that I brought these issues up during the move and the next day when contacted. He would send out a repair man for the damages claim concerning the wood flooring and walls. When the repair man arrived, he looked our floors and was shocked to see what the crew had done. He kept saying it was “very bad work” and apologized. He said he could only repair one small scratch, but would show photographs to the claims manager and we would get a phone call the next day to resolve the chunks in our floors. He also said he would return to repaint the wall that was damaged, and the remaining scratches. The repair man never showed up again. We were not contacted by Anthony, the claims manager. I reached out to Anthony via email and had no response for three days. When I finally do get ahold of Anthony, he immediately informs me that according to his repair man all of the repairs were completed and has photographic proof, which he is of course showing him later that day. I start to tell my side of the story, where he then tells me how rude I have been for cutting him off. I am upset at this point, because I am sitting in my home looking at the un-repaired floors. I say to him, you need to hear my side of the story because there damages here they have not been addressed. “No no,” Anthony tells me, “you need to hear what I was going to say because it will void your statement.” Anthony, and many other people at the company will tell you how Dumbo Moving is a “Multi-million dollar” company. They will also tell you how it is too difficult for this “multi-million dollar company” to keep their customers informed. I am told by Anthony how Dumbo Moving does over 300,000 moves a year, and has had only 30 claims in the last year. I ask, if there are so few claims why is it not a priority when a claim does come up? Why are we being treated as if we are not telling the truth? My phone call with Anthony is getting heated, and he hangs up on me. I immediately take a video of the the one repaired area and record the remaining damages to our floor. I email it over to Anthony. He thanks me for my video, and says this will help him get to the bottom if the issue. He also tells me that my email is now “marked as priority” so it will come up immediately if I respond. NOW I am a priority. Before I became a priority I was the customer who was not fast enough to point out issues, everything is my fault and I am the rude one. We will see if our home is repaired, and I will happily update this review if or when it is. In the meantime, avoid this multi-million dollar company because they apparently don’t need or care about your move.

In August 2012, I left New York City to move to France. As I didnt have proper accommodation, I left all my belongings to be stored with Dumbo Moving & Storage. Since then, I have paid moving fees ($225) and my monthly storage fees every single month ($91.46 per month). When Sandy hit NY, I called Dumbo Moving to make sure nothing had happened to my belongings. They confirmed they hadnt been hit by the hurricane. Between 2012 and just recently, I had to move quite a bit throughout Europe and never had the opportunity to have my belongings shipped. I started a new job January 2015 in France, recently brought a new house in which I recently moved in and therefore wanted to have my belongings shipped to France. I sent an email to the person Ive been in contact with (i.e. Storage Manager) asking him to send me the weight/volume of my storage and asked if they handle these types of move. Because their response didnt make any sense to me, I asked my brother to go there to check on my things the next Saturday. Thats when they told me that they couldnt locate my belongings. They barely searched for a day and kept on sending me emails to open a claim. Although I asked them to continue searching for my items, they deemed that a 1 day search was sufficient. I also learned in the process that they had moved all my belongings from their Brooklyn location to their NJ location during the hurricane, which makes absolutely no sense. Being far away, I asked a legal counsel to help me solve the matter with them. Thats when everything got very complicated with Dumbo. Although they can seem very helpful when they want to sell you something, they become extremely difficult to deal with once an issue comes up. Not only did they refuse to speak with my legal counsel, but insisted that because I had threatened to take them to court, they stopped searching for my belongings, wanted me to list each and every item in my storage unit because they were doing a camera search (as if they could locate my lost picture frame stored in a box from a camera search), etc. Listing all the idiotic things they said or asked for would take too much time, but basically it ended up with them offering $3 100 which doesnt even cover the storage fees I paid since July 2012. So I refused and they ended up telling me that if I refused I should take them to court. Even my legal counsel couldnt believe how careless they could be with their customers. Had I known at the time, I would have spent a little bit more money to make sure my things were safe. They clearly shouldnt be in this business and shouldnt deal with customers. If you have a choice, make a different one.

Do not use Dumbo Moving! I repeat: Do NOT use DUMBO Moving!!! My girlfriend and I were moving into a new apartment together from separate locations. We made them aware of the time restrictions of the new condo complex we were moving into, 830 am to 630 pm. We each had 1 Bedroom apartments. DUMBO moving recommended using one crew and doing both location pick ups and the move in the same day rather than using two separate crews. We agreed based on their recommendation. 1. Crew was scheduled to be at 1st Location at 9:00am. Didnt show up until 10:40 am. 2. Damaged stairwell wall. 3. Got off wrong exit while driving to 2nd location. 4. Finished packing 2nd location at 445pm. 5. 2 members of the crew took smoke breaks of 10 mins per hour every hour. 3rd member of crew was nice and continued to work. 6. Could not make into new complex prior to 6 pm, Therefore we could not unload. 7. Dumbo moving stored our property overnight in the moving truck. 8. Schduled for 7:30 am next morning, showed up @ 8:55 am. 9. Massive amounts of water damage. The company knew that the truck had multiple leaks in the truck, both in the cab as well as the storage area for furniture. According to the crew, management had known about the leaking truck for more than 1 month. 10. Water damage to both Mattresses (Temurpedic and King Pillow-top), clothes soaked, water damage to sectional sofa, and coffee and end tables. 11. Damage to sectional sofa, rip in 3 areas. 12. Damage to coffec table, wheel broken off. Dumbo moving sent an email the next day, and charged our credit card a $250 overnight storage fee. We did not authorize this charge. They charge for the overnight storage since they did not make the condo deadline for the move and had to come back the next morning. Absolutely unprofessional. Once we informed Dumbo moving that we would be making a claim, (which was the same day of the off load when all damage was noticed. (2nd day of moving), we received a call the next day from the crew foreman stating that Dumbo would not be paying the crew for the two days of moving. Very rude phone call and unprofessional. We submited all the photos and itemized list of damage. Dumbo moving offered us $100 settlement. Claim still not resolved Please read this again. Do NOT USE DUMBO Moving. Thank you.
