In the fitness arena, where companies are fighting for space, there are few places where meat head are welcome. Retro happens to be a last of a dying corporate breed. And amongst those gyms in the Retro Franchise one truly stands alone; Retro of Freeport NY. Courteous staff, warm and friendly, and the way you should feel when you walk in. I have been to ALL the retro’s in the NYC Metro area, and non have laid out the design, and combined atmospheres like Freeport. The upper level is for training, and classes, the cable machines, and the standard Retro open platform. But Speak to The Asst. Manager, and he’ll tell you “The animals are downstairs”! Take a trip back in time to Bodybuilding’s golden era. Wide, open area, all the old school machines you heart desires, and some standard Hammer Strength equipment. No air conditioning downstairs, no pictures, no gimmicks, NO NONSENSE! You go downstairs to the “Pit” as one member called it, you are there to WORK! If you are a true meat head, and can load up 10+ plates and still be hungry for more, then Freeport Retro is the gym for you. I have not felt at home at any other retro besides Ramsey NJ, but if I’m back on the Island, that is the ONLY retro I’m going to. I want to thank the staff at Retro Freeport, for an incredible lift, and the opportunity to review your gym. If you don’t mind the drive, and you love exploring gyms, this one is on your next top 3!

...I think they are lacking more workout machines for women as well as weights. They should expand the gym where the teather is-- like i dont get why they have it (no one uses it) also ive noticed that the gym is over crowed on week days between 5-9 so your best bet will be going in the moorning or after 9. The place will be better if they manage the spaces they have a different way, get more machinery for gluttes and legs, put better and louder music, have at least a round of tastings every 3 hrs and fix their machines when they break....

The setting of this gym really gives it a family/home vibe, which allows me to feel more comfortable and relaxed while working out there. I also really appreciate the organization and variety of work-out machines compared to the 24 hour fitness near me. The workers are friendly, especially Josh. Hes very engaging and seems passionate about his job. Overall, I find this gym to be a great place to start and continue a fitness journey.

I worked their for a month and didnt receive full compensation for the hours that I worked. I tried to contact the manager numerous times and was finally told that they were not going to pay me for the hours I worked and then the manager hung up on me. The assistant manager was very polite and helpful but I would think twice before working there.

Watched front desk 2 people up there, but one sat there while someone wanted a smoothie while the other was giving the other one lip because she was helping someone but I dont think she had to do that. She could have helped with making the smoothie. Still too much conflict up at the front desk.

Manager is so rude and hard to talk to. Waited an hour while he was talking to his friends. I wanted to cancel my account there I had to do it twice. Both times were horrible experiences. I go to the one in Levittown staff isnicer and respectful. No ghetto personalities there.

Ive gone 3 times in a year.the try ed to mess my credit for 100 dollars Ive payed every month 2 dollar and they dont even give u the change back.ur a scam go to golds gym cheaper and better.u suck

Horrible place. time after time they open late. 5 AM IS 5 AM!! no respect for their costumers time. I emailed them a couple of times and got no respond. I will have to find a new gym.

Its amazing at this gym. Everyone looks great so it inspires you to work harder. Employees are so kind and motivational. Recommended to all. Its a great atmosphere to be around.
