It has been a while since I purchased a computer customized to my personal & business needs. In the past two decades I found it convenient and cost effective to purchase directly from “best buy” and online stores. However, in the past two years I found this experience no longer viable and cost effective. Purchasing several computers from the “big box” just to find out the computers failed shortly after the warranty expired, made me think that I might be better off purchasing directly from a local brick & mortar store. I prioritize my expectations for a computer performance and price, High-end monitor, technical support, knowledgeable staff, and customer service. Shopping around I ended up in Colwell Computers store, computer repair services PC & Mac in Saratoga Springs. I met Gene, extremely patient and knowledgeable person, to discuss the computers specs and requirements for my business. I specified in detail the applications/software requirements, my expectations (performance, price, longevity, components upgrade feasibility, technical support) from the computer. Gene provided several options and price levels to meet my requirements. To my surprise Gene delivered a better performance machine than we initially discussed and specified for no extra charge. In addition to the business system, I purchased a laptop and a desktop for family members. If you or someone you know are looking to purchase a computer and have a realistic & reasonable expectations for a quality/performance machine, price, customer service, and knowledgeable staff I highly recommend this business.

Colwell Computers: I cannot recommend this business enough. The proprietor has gone the extra mile and another mile on his own accord to help me with my computer and printer needs He is kind, considerate and generous. He is very knowledgeable with technical issues and advice... DO NOT HESITATE to take your business to him...big box stores are destroying small businesses...shop locally and support America the way it should be...small businesses like Colwell Computers are the life blood of local economy... Gene has always without doubt gone the extra mile to help me with everything from minor repairs to virus and OS installation...Gene and his wife Tammy are awesome people who truly care about the needs of the customers and has become whta I consider a friend...any panned review is obviously from someone who either does not know what quality work truly is and or is used to be raked over the coals by big box stores and expected the same from Gene...Trust me folks...Gene is no such type of individual...The man cares about his work and stand nehind his product 100$...Frankly, in my opinion, to take your sytem elsewhere for repair is a foolish way to squandry money that, as we know in this economy, is not an intelligent thing to do...Support local businesses...You will not be sorry...

EXHORBITANT FEES & INCOMPETENT. Gene did NOT back up my data before performing the last "repair" (he had always backed up before), so all my data was lost, including irreplaceable family photos and genealogical data thata took 11 years to compile, and crucial legal information. Afterward, he sold me a backup drive that is worthless (would take too long to explain here). His fees are outrageously high and his work is not very good. He charged me several hundred dollars over 3-4 visits but only made matters worse. I stopped going there and found a new repair place that charges a fraction of what Colwell charges without losing my data. The new service (The Fast Lane Technologies in Ballston Spa) was not able to retrieve my data, but made repairs while I waited. Im not even charged for simple things by my new service.

Over the past several years I have purchased 2 laptops and 1desktop from Colwell computers. I have also had occasion to have computers diagnosed and serviced at Colwell. In each case I was extremely pleased with the level of customer service and knowledge that Gene and Tammy have shown me. In this age of corporate computer super stores, it is refreshing to pick up the phone and speak directly to the business owner.....who also happens to be the person working on your machine. I would encourage anyone who is in the market for a computer or needs service on an existing computer to call or walk in....you will not be let down. Thank you Gene for your continued commitment to quality work and exceptional customer service.

Excellence! We have had two experiences with Colwell Computers, both of which were very positive! In the first instance, we had a complete computer shut down. Colwell recommended replacing the hard drive and other updates to our HP. That computer now functions with great speed and overall performance. In the more recent situation, our second computer was infected with multiple viruses. Colwell did a complete diagnosis and virus clean. We were assured and feel confident that should there be subsequent problems with either machine, that Colwell will stand behind their work. No hesitation in recommending this firm. Nice people to do business with at a reasonable price and practically overnight delivery.

I went in and asked them to take a look at my Macbook Pro, which has exterior damage, but normally runs fairly well. I took it in when it wouldnt start for a whole day, thinking that it mightve been a battery issue or an issue with the charger. Instead of ruling out generic issues like a broken charger or a dead battery, he took one look at it and immediately told me that due to the intense impact the computer experienced years ago, the logic board was most likely fried. I would not recommend them under any circumstances.

Theifs!! i brought my macbook there and i was told i needed a new screen, i paid $300 for parts n labor. called weekly for 2 months they had excuse everytime then told me they couldnt fix it. when i went to pick it up and get my money back they refused to give me my money so i still have a broken macbook and was stolen from. im a colllage student barley making ends meet so $300 is alot of money to me. honestly cant believe a business would do this to someone let alone a college student thats broke.

Just a simple preliminary question before I decide whether or not to shop at colwell, but do you guys sell modern pre-used laptops with graphics cards? Or the parts necessary to modify a graphics card capable laptop (like ddr4 sodimm ram, laptop sata drives, and laptop optical drives- mostly because need a graphics card laptop for college, and I think the best way to go about it is to buy pre-used or even new if necessary, and upgrade everything but the graphics card and cpu)?

I have been using Colwell for many years. For Personal and Business Computers. They are very cordial to customer needs. Always call and keep you to date with cost estimate and time frame of repairs . Colwell must use quality components in their Custom Builds, as they run with no issues for many years. A friend my mine is going to have them configure his Windows 8 to operate like Windows 7. Colwell is a very good small business. We are fortunate to have them in our area.

I purchased my computer from Colwell Computers in July 2014. Gene set me up with an Asus laptop that is easy to use. I let him know Im a novice at best. He took time to explain the important easy ways to use my laptop. I have had to call Gene a few times after getting stuck on something most would know how to fix. I stopped by his shop today 4/16/15 and he made an adjustment to my laptop to unfreeze it. I highly recommend Colwell Computers.
