When we told our taxi driver that we had chosen this restaurant, he told us we had chosen the best seafood in Wilmington and he was right. Took the wife here, and LOVED it! Our waitress Annie was spectacular. She treated us like we were her only customers and there was nothing else she could do but serve our every need. The first thing she brought was a pair of biscuits that my wife called, "Slap your Mamma good!" She says if your own mamma tries to take a biscuit like that from you, you slap her. (I like them too.) We ordered a half-dozen oysters and they were great. I found a tiny pearl. The drinks were perfect, except I did try one I had heard of, but they took off the menu. When I did not like it they replaced it at no charge with a GREAT HURRICANE, which I have not had since our New Orleans vacation. The food was cooked perfectly, the staff marvelous, even the manager stopped by to greet us, and assure we were well cared for, and of course we could ask nothing, as Annie had provided our every need. I will go again every time I go to Wilmington. BTW, we did not go in the bar, but according to the taxi-driver, she is one of the best in Wilmington and the most beatiful woman in town. I assume we know where he goes when he gets off work!

I didnt listen to the bad reviews - and I regretted it! We were Out of towners who love sea food - we picked Hieronymus because I thought "eh, a few bad reviews happens to all restaurants"... I was wrong. When we arrived (no kidding because I counted) - 6 employees left us standing at the hostess booth for 7 mins before I asked to be seated. The waiter disappears and when he returns, he says "kitchen we literally just closed - sorry". As I was leaving I thought Id call the the manager and confirm - when he picked up he said "yeah we are all out of food" . I said how is this possible ? Wed like something simple . Even without giving an attitude he quickly responded with "our kitchen is open - but we dont have A LOT of food". I worked in a restaurant and thats the oldest excuse in the book when you dont want a bad review! I said its tacky for your wait staff to ignore us and then lie - he responded with "it happens, but maybe youll come back another day". Thankfully I didnt sit through a rude meal with an establishment that doesnt care about its costumers. This says a lot about the quality of food and service you will receive - skip this one!

We went to this restaurant while staying in Wilmington, NC. It was recommended by the hotel. My husband got a burger which he said was good. My Mom got a fried seafood platter which she said was good. She was not happy with the veggie of the day, which she said was undercooked/tough. She did tell the waitress and it was replaced and she said it was good. I got the you choose three seafood platter. I chose blackened - shrimp, flounder, and scallops. I hate to say it was not good at all and it was $22.00. The shrimp was very dried out - like it had been cooked earlier then recooked - and it was not hot. The scallops were tender and juicy but sandy/grainy - which I find very unpleasant. The flounder was a little dried out but edible. It all had too much blackening seasoning, way more than Ive ever had on a blackened dish. The veggie and starch of the day were both really good. The restaurant was nice. It was very busy. The service was excellent. I will not return.

Not even sure where to start here. Was recommended from a friend and turned out to be the worst meal out anywhere in Wilmington. This is solely based on the food and the service, mainly the food. Service was laughable, literally such a bad old waitress I have no idea how she was employed there. The crab dip appetizer was completely burnt, the bread was asked to be brought out 4 times and ended up being the only decent tasting thing all night. We all ordered fresh catch dinners and every, single, one of them was near inedible. Burnt, overcooked, dried out, just the worst seafood in all of Wilmington. Only one side option and one veggie option on the menu. Mashed potatoes were artificial spuds and the veggies were soaked in what tasted like old fry oil. On top of all that our bill for 2 of us was $86 and we each had 1 drink....HA! I never write a 1 star review but this one earned it, avoid at all costs there are many many more seafood restaurants worth going to.

First time patron. Though I am familiar with southern seafood recipes. My overall experience was excellent. I started with the She Crab Soup, a smooth deep rich flavor, for only five bucks it was worth having seconds. Then the main course. I chose grilled and blackened scallops, and shrimp, fresh and tasty, which normally comes with flounder. I was able to switch that for fried oysters, having missed my northern fried clams, this has become one of my favorites, and it was given at no additional cost. For sides I had the saute and seasoned squash with slivers of carrots, it was only slightly soft in texture with enough crispness left to make you smile. and a baked sliced yam. Being unmashed it remained with its own natural sweetness, yet with a touch of something more. There wasnt an item on my plate I would not have had an extra helping of .. if I could expand my belly that far.

It is some years since I ate in this Wilmington icon; I recall a bad experience shortly after the original owning family sold out around 1998/99. However, I had a hankering for some seafood tonight, Thursday, 10 November 2016 and thought I would give it another try; Im glad I did. I ordered the grilled seafood platter of flounder and scallops with my waitress recommendations of the sweet red potato baked in a cinammon crust which came nicely sliced and butternut and acorn squash; all for a very reasonable $19.00. I can only say it was cooked fresh, served hot (a rarity in this town) and tasted very good. I wish I had had been able to try dessert but sadly prescription medicines diminished my appetite. The glass covered tables casing sea shells are absolutely awful but cannot detract from the wonderful food!

NEVER AGAIN!!!! It was so hot in there that we could hardly breathe let alone eat. The volume of food was not worth the price. Our bill was $166.00 plus they add an 18% gratuity automatically and had we had the option to tip on our own we would not have left a tip. Our son had to go and find the waitress just so we could get refills on our drinks. It took forever for us to get our food and when my husband asked the manager if he could turn the fan up higher, because it was soooo hot in there, he simply looked at us like we were stupid!! This place is definitely NOT child friendly either. The next time we will save ourselves ALOT of money and headache and just go to long john silvers if we want sea food.
