Yesterday, 8/30/16, was my first visit to the Paul Mitchell Columbus School. I went in wanting to have an all over blonde coloring as my roots were showing. The student I had was Rachel, and she was really nice, and seemed to know what she was doing - she brought a hair color chart and asked what color blonde I was thinking about, and I picked out a shade. Her teacher, Gina, came over and didnt really explain why they couldnt do the blonde, but they could do an all over brunette color which would match my roots. Also, Gina told me that on top of the $27 coloring fee, it would be an additional $16 because theyd have to use another bowl of color. Never has a salon charged me an additional amount for more hair coloring. I keep my hair about shoulder length, and just about 2 weeks ago I had it cut and sheared to reduce the heaviness and thickness of my hair at Great Clips. I last went to the JC Penney Salon when they had a cut & color for $50, and once I received the service and went to the checkout desk, my total was exactly $50+ tax. I wanted to try this place as it was cheaper, and at this time were saving up for our baby shower that were hosting ourselves, and items well need to buy that we dont receive as gifts, not to mention the baby herself when she arrives in a couple months. I wanted to get my hair colored at a cheap price for our baby shower and maternity pictures later in September... The color turned out alright for a brunette color, but I was really looking forward to the same blonde look Ive had for a while now. My husband was okay with how it turned out, he was just surprised it was brown, and not blonde like we were both expecting.

The Ohio Academy Paul Mitchell Partner School Columbus has been a life changing experience for me. I started at The Ohio Academy Columbus in 2006 as a Future Professional. Having no idea what to expect from a brand new school, I jumped right in. Attending a Paul Mitchell school definitely prepared me to be successful in the field of cosmetology. From real salon experience on the clinic floor to hands on classes, I definitely received a well rounded education. When I approached the end of my schooling I realized how much I didnt want to leave and became a front desk coordinator during the night program. After leaving the Ohio Academy to work in a salon again, I realized how much I missed the amazing atmosphere and culture at TOA. In 2011 I had the opportunity to come back to work at TOA in admissions. This had been a long time dream of mine. I became Admissions Leader and to this day I am one of the lucky people that can honestly say I love my job. In many ways this school sells itself so I get to take prospective students on tours and share all the unique opportunities they receive at a Paul Mitchell School. As I say to every single tour, this is not just a beauty school; its an experience. One that for me personally, has changed my life for the better. Come out and explore the Ohio Academy Columbus where you are greeted by smiling faces, a beautiful facility, music, and people who really care. I guarantee you will love your experience whether you are taking a tour or receiving a service from one of our amazing Phase 1 or Phase 2 Future Professionals.

I have been to this salon two times, and neither experience was very good. The students here are absolutely amazing . . . when it comes to hair that isnt natural thick and coarse hair like mine. The first experience was pretty bad, I had 3 students and an instructor blow drying my hair for hours just to have it shrink back up. One of those students were so amazing, I didnt want to hurt her feelings so I kept my mouth shut. In the end, she had to leave so 2 other students finished my hair, and it looked great. My second experience wasnt the greatest either. The same student from the first experience was graduating and I was extremely exited to support her by visiting that day and giving her another chance to do my hair. I had so much confidence in her. But it took her like 30 minutes to blow dry my hair and it wasnt dry. Not to mention I could hear it ripping, and I just knew that I had to have heat damage when I looked at it in the mirror. It was brittle to the touch. By the end of the blow dry, I stopped her before she could flat iron it. I really tried, but I just couldnt be 100% honest with her about the blow drying process. It was the day she was graduating, and I definitely did not want to ruin her day whatsoever. I told her because I was afraid of the heat, and that I liked to wear my hair natural, and it was the truth. But those werent the only reasons. In the end, she did this really cute afro updo with some bobby pins. But just be careful if you have thick natural hair.

I rarely write reviews for any businesses regardless of the quality of service they have to offer. This time around I couldnt stand and here I am to write something about this place. My mom is a beautician & she owns a business in East Broad street, Columbus. I love what she does & the amount of money she makes is decent. So, I also decided to pursue the same career. I contacted this school to talk to their admission representatives but sadly I didnt get chance. I left bunch of voicemails & also gave my name & number to the lady who answered my phone. I would say I did that at least 17 times. I am here to tell all the people planning to attend this school, please dont be apologetic to attend this school. There are dozens around to choose from & you will be respected. Its all about getting courtesious treatment for the money you would pay. All these slackers there are to suck your money & leave you at gods mercy. Dont let them screw up as I heard from someone who commented that he was at receiving end from them & warned not to flush hard earned penny down the toilet. That struck me nicely. I too have the same suggestions for anyone planning to go there. Dont let them screw you. And just so you know, they are good at deleting public reviews. They just want to show 5 stars. 1 star reviews are deleted within split seconds they are posted. That should tell how cunning they are. :(

Ive only been here one time so far, but Ill be back. The girl that cut my hair was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable. As with any beauty school, you have to know going in that any service is going to take a lot longer than if you go to a salon because they periodically have to have the instructors look at your hair. She did a great job cutting my hair and then one of the instructors put the finishing details on it. Overall, very pleased with the service and you cant beat the price ($20 for a haircut). I do have to say it seemed a little disorganized when I went in. Probably because it was extremely busy. The parking lot is huge and I got the last spot. Even though I had an appointment, I still waited at least 20 minutes. Turns out, the girl who cut my hair was also waiting for me at the same time. They hadnt told her I had arrived. So just a little mishap. Overall, I had a good experience and I will be back. As others have said in their reviews, if something doesnt turn out the way you want it to, keep in mind that they are students and they are learning. An instructor will fix your hair for you if you dont like it. And I believe they also have a 7 day guarantee.
