When I first arrived on Saturday the 21st of November, it was a bit after four. My fiance and I had been shopping for a new Subaru Outback and had some offers from two local dealers within a 30 minute drive from home. We go up to Wellsboro a bit and always pass by this dealer and had stopped in a year ago so we thought we would drive up there. Before we went, I familiarized myself with their inventory and they had the car we were looking at in stock whereas the others we would have had to order. I looked at the website and wrote down the stock number and VIN as well as the financing terms etc. Having already been to two dealers, I had a good idea of the value of my trade in which was between $4500 and $5000 at both of the other dealers. According to their website, I could purchase the car for 72 months at 3.9% interest (manufacturer was offering 1.49% for qualified individuals prior to 11/30/15 which I did not apply for at either of the other dealers but planned on it if we ordered or decided to purchase at Moyer Subaru) with a monthly payment of $450 with a $3203 down payment. I figured that if the trade was equal to the lowest I received elsewhere, I would make the deal. They took my car for a test drive and then we sat down. The salesman showed me a paper which I looked at. The payment was $550, my trade-in was $2500. That extra $100 would have equated to an additional $7200 over the life of the loan.....and this is 3.9%? I immediately stood up and told the gentleman that it wasnt going to work and I thanked him for his time. He asked if there was anything they could do so I mentioned that I was offered a good deal more at other dealers and I could sell it privately for more than that ( I dont want to sell privately for I would have to sell the car first before buying and that would leave us without a car so that option is out). My fiance and I stood and left. I felt a bit insulted or perhaps the salesman is a little thick in that I came in there specifically with a stock number and VIN for a specific car. We didnt ask for a test drive. All we wanted was to work a deal. That should have told the salesman that we have been shopping and have been to other dealers and he should have presented his best deal up front since they advertise haggle-free shopping. I read the reviews prior to going up there and I was reminded how someone else mentioned a $2500 trade in when I looked at the sheet. Also, the $550 payment upset me in that I did my homework prior to going. His sheet was a take it or leave it with no options presented for different financing. I received better options from the other two Subaru dealers. The salesman was friendly and courteous and the place was clean and most presentable as a dealership. However, when a customer comes in with specific numbers as to stock and VIN, it should be a red flag telling the salesman that we were serious and not kicking tires. Perhaps he should have even asked but he didnt, he should have ascertained from my request for a specific vehicle. "Caveat Emptor" if you go to Moyer Subaru. The reviews were mostly glowing as to haggle free shopping and it was due to these that I took one look at the worksheet, as well as the diametrically opposed numbers from their website that was the impetus of my abruptly leaving. I decided that there was no haggling since they advertise haggle-free shopping. I didnt want to waste my time or the salesman since I was already sitting on an offer. The only difference was that they had what we wanted in stock and the other dealers it would have to be ordered. I will just wait and not visit Moyer Subaru.

We scheduled a time to test drive the car since it is a bit of a drive to get to the dealership. I had been communicating to the electronic team of Phil and Linda throughout this time period who were both very pleasant and helpful. I will say that team is fantastic to work with! When we arrived on Saturday and I asked for Phil, I was then greeted by a salesperson who explained we were "handed" off from that team to her. Took the test drive, went through Q & A, financing, exploration, etc. We placed a deposit on the car to hold it at the dealerships recommendation (you know, so it doesnt get sold) and made an appointment to return Wednesday evening to finish the paperwork and take delivery. This is where the deal goes very sour. The salesperson, nor anyone, did any other follow-up after we left, however, I emailed first thing this morning to confirm the appointment and ask a few more questions and what additional info she may need for the finance person. Everything was quickly squared away on our end and she apologized because she should have gotten the information earlier from us (it was clear before we left on Saturday that a purchase was being made) but then came back and said she was told by the GM that no more appointments for tonight. No more delivery of vehicles. What?! Thats crazy! When we spoke to the salesperson on the phone we gave her 3 options: 1) deliver tonight as scheduled 4 days prior 2) options to make this right to pick up another night or 3) our deposit back. Without hesitation, she said we are just going to give you your deposit back -- end of conversation. You know what that tells me -- questionable activity -- I surmise the car was more likely sold to someone else even though they had the deposit and appointment down to hold it, not to mention the paperwork in hand for financing. Why would you not try to save the sale and do right by the customer? None of it makes sense. I would never do business with this dealership again. Its just not good, trustworthy business practice. If you are going to sell something out from underneath me, then you should not be taking a deposit to "hold" the vehicle. Subaru will be getting a letter concerning this dealerships shenanigans as well. That is NOT the way to do business. I do not trust them or any other reviews listed on here now. Extremely disappointed and dismayed.

Earlier this week I purchased a new Forester 2.5i from Steve Moyer Subaru, was extremely pleased with the experience and rate it as one of the best I have ever been involved with. Why? Let me explain: - I am a seasoned "car guy" who acquired my 1st car in 1972 so I have lots of personal buying experiences to compare with, both good and bad. Also, I am the "go-to" guy among family, friends and co-workers when they want advice/help for their car buying needs so I feel qualified in saying I know a good sales experience and great pricing when I see it. - I focused on exactly what we wanted in a 2015 Forester then contacted 5 sources seeking their best pricing and availability information. Linda Verbeten, manager of the Steve Moyer Subaru Internet team responded quickly with a price that blew everyone else off the map. Following several calls and e-mails with Phil and Linda, I quickly felt confident that there were no "smoke and mirrors", only honesty and friendliness. - After visiting my local Subaru dealer and leaving unhappy with the final negotiated price and their lowball trade offer, I decided to make the 25 mile trip to Steve Moyer Subaru where they had the exact car we wanted (and several more), the fantastic pricing was just as presented and the trade offer was actually 25% more than others! With that I said yes then and there, where do I sign? No additional negotiations required! - The entire staff was extremely courteous, friendly and helpful without a hint of pressure or intimidation. It was genuinely an enjoyable, stress free experience! - Thank you to Linda, Phil, Jarad, Jon and especially our sales rep, Roger Cowden. Great job Roger!
