Aili is great! I went in to get some rose gold streaks in my hair, and she was very helpful and willing to get a good understanding of what I wanted. She made sure we were on the same page many times, and was also very honest with me about what might be realistic with the color I had chosen. I love the way it turned out! Shes a real professional, and everyone else at KaRu was friendly and helpful. The only reason Im not giving a five-star review is because the price was absolutely horrendous. I have very short hair, and got a very small number of pink streaks in my hair, yet the whole thing cost me around $175...which as much as I love the color, I dont think was totally worth it for what I got. I understand that they deserve to charge more because theyre such professionals, so I dont begrudge them a higher price than I would pay at a lower-grade salon, but for my particular experience it just seemed way out of the ballpark. However, if you want a really great color and an awesome experience, this is the place to go! Just make sure you are clear in asking about what you can expect to pay, and be willing to shell out a lot of extra $$ for the services. Despite that criticism, I have nothing but gratitude to Aili for the work she did on my hair, I love it!

As an underground beauty nerd, I am obsessed with this salon! Im typically low maintenance when it comes to my look so I have joined the ombre bandwagon over the past few months. I had an appointment right before my birthday and brought in a picture I found on pinterest to show my stylist, Aili. She understood what look I was going for and gave me exactly what I wanted. I didnt want her to mess around with my roots since I do admire my natural hair color, I just wanted the ends to fade to a light blonde. She suggested the olaplex treatment and I went with it since my hair is naturally fine and susceptible to breakage... I think the treatment does help. In addition, I also had my hair trimmed by her so the ends would look "fresh" after my appointment. The haircut price is kinda steep, but I only go about twice a year(bad, I Know!) so I guess its worth it. Overall I am extremely happy with their salon and practices and will be back for another appointment :)

KaRu is by far the best hair salon in Austin and all of the credit is due to the incredibly talented and gifted owner, Kari Leon-Guerrero. To call Kari just a colorist would be doing her an injustice. She is an artist. But even if you dont go to Kari, any stylist at KaRu is going to be top notch. She believes in hiring stylists with experience, a willingness to grow and a incredible portfolio of work. They understand that every head of hair that walks out their door represents their brand and nothing but the best will do. Bottom line is this -- I only have one head of hair and if someone screws it up - cut or color - I have to live with it 24/7. I cant imagine not going to KaRu for this very reason. Id recommend anyone that takes pride in looking their best to try them out even if you already have a salon in Austin. You wont be disappointed.

Ive been a client of Tina (Tee Tee) Spears for over 15 years and can honestly say she is amazingly talented. Her approach to color is a perfect blend of art and science. Her hair designs are technical, vibrant and one of a kind. It is nothing short of magic. Tina can create exactly what you want, the latest trends and things yet to be imagined. If youre not looking for as much creativity and just want great color, shes great for that too. Healthy, consistent and vibrant - this will be your hair in Tinas hands. Best salon I ever been to in my entire life. I personally dont go to any salon that often and I decided to go to KaRu because I wanted to treat myself after the labor and my birthday. They had really amazing atompshere that you could be yourself. I had Aili got my hair done, shes very talented. She also knew what excatly you wanted and make sure that the colors doesnt be all wasted by telling me to go for little darker colors to turned them out to the colors I wanted because I wanted baby colors for my hair (violet, pink, green and blue). Im sure that they will last for a while. And I had a really good trim, too. Alyssa who checks you in and out from the salon, she was very kind, too! Itll worth every pennies of your money!

Kari is the best colorist in Austin! Ive been to so many other colorists- even big names in NYC and other cities and have yet to find anyone better than Kari. I am extremely guarded about just anyone applying color to my hair, but completely trust Kari. She is consistent, thorough and meticulous. I have long blonde hair and she gets it right every time! Also, my color doesnt fade quickly (unlike a well known plant-based color name that I wont mention), but not only that, Kari listens to what you want and takes time to discuss what shes going to do.I highly recommend her if you are looking for a good colorist in Austin. Love this salon!

This is Chriss wife, Amanda, and Ive been going to Karu salon since they opened 5 years ago and I love it! The atmosphere is inviting, the people are friendly and the location is convenient no matter which direction I have to come from that day. Having curly hair can be a challenge for anyone except my awesome stylist Tim who knows just how to handle these crazy locks. Kari is my colorist and without her, I would be lost! She has a solid 15 years of experience under her belt and it shows every time. I always look forward to getting my hair done at Karu because I know Ill leave there 1,000 times happier than when I walked in!

A huge fan of Karis, I followed her to KaRu, where she has created a classy, warm, nurturing salon with an elegant, vintage flair. I love this place! Tina is amazing! She is so kind, open-hearted, and wonderful to be in the chair with. Gotta love those ginger dreads! She gives me amazing color with great cuts--just what I ask for. I have total trust and let her do her thing. Getting my hair done used to be a chore, but now I look forward to it! My best friend and I both see Tina for color, and she rocks it! Every. Time. Dionne is amazing at cutting my friends curly hair. It always looks fierce. She also did a wonderful job styling our hair for my friends wedding. Couldnt recommend this place more!
