Had work done on a water heater. At the drain valve, a nipple (black pipe-designed for use on gas lines) was used instead of brass. The T was galvanized pipe. The shut off valve was installed improperly making it impossible to shut water off-the handle was hitting the floor. Two years later there was a small leak and plenty of rust. HCP was not particularly interested in checking it out. The water heater was replaced by another plumbing outfit. The nipple going into the water heater was not tightened and was easily moved by hand. The black nipple was rusted; 1/2 of tip was lost to corrosion.
