I have been going to Deep in the Roots off and on about two years. The locitian that originally started my locs left the country and so I began going to this salon. For a long while I was happy with my loctician, Ms. Deborah, because she good and worked fast, kept it courteous and professional too. Ms. Deborah, unfortunately, decided to focus on being a makeup artist and retired from the hair business. I continued to go to this salon in the hopes that I can find another great stylist. The one I went to (Ms. Alexus) was fine, the main reason I am giving this salon a low rating is because of my last appointment. I had known Ms. Alexus may run 15 minutes late and I didnt mind waiting but as my wait dragged on, Ms. Ray the owner (and Ms. Alexuss mother) told me that another stylist can take care of me. This loctician, whos name I dont know because she never introduced herself, was talking on the phone the entire time. She also recorded a video of my hair and shared it on some social media chat app and I could hear her advertise her services. Mind you she never asked my permission!! This unprofessional conduct has occurred a few times before. On two occasions I have witnessed Ms. Ray and her associates talk badly about clients after they leave. There was also the time when a stylist loced my roots so tight that I had a headache for a whole week! I tried desperately to loosen my locs but it hurt a lot. Ms. Ray has also sent out mass emails with angry rants about why she moved her salon locations. As a client i dont need to know what the landowner did or didnt do nor your opinion of that persons behavior, just simply send me something along the lines of "The salon has moved due to unforeseen circumstances, here is the new location etc". But yet for the salons 2nd move, there was no notice at all! I had to drive to the old spot and to my shock it was a barbershop. As soon as I walked in the guys there told me where DR moved to and how to get there. When I asked them how they knew what I was looking for, they said many DR clients had already came thru not knowing the move had happened. My dreadlocking journey has been full of challenges and Ive learned that a good stylist makes all the difference. The only reason I kept overlooking all of these bad incidents and kept returning to Deep In The Root was because Ms. Deborah was there. All of my experience outside of Ms. Deborah at this salon have been pretty bad. If you are looking for a quality salon that provides good customer care and professionalism, Deep In the Roots isnt that place.

I went to deep in the roots 3 weeks back for a consultation to see if I could get finger coils done before the week of my birthday. I spoke to the receptionist named Joy and wasnt that impressed with the conversation we had in regards to the finger coil hairstyle I wanted. At first she didnt know if they can do the hairstyle, and when I had asked her again she said that the staff could probably do it with the consultation. Now the consultation arrives, I show up to the salon and talked to the owner who was busy with a client at the time. I had asked her if any of the staff can do hairstyle I required and also wanted to know what the price would be. She was friendly and had asked another stylist with the photo I provided if its possible in which the staff member said yes and that they could try to do my hair that same day, But unfortunately the stylist couldnt do it at the moment so I didnt mind to reschedule a appointment in the next week an a half. Finally I make it to the appointment and my stylist was there, and thats when the problems began. The finger coil hairstyle requires you to first have non-relaxed natural hair in which I had my hair relaxed a month and 3 weeks ago and take responsibility for that and also informed the owner during my consultation, but also the hair style is supposed to twist/ curl out the hair, not curl in. My hairstylist was a nice and friendly person but didnt know what she was doing and had to ask another staff member how to do my hair, but to make a long story short I wasnt happy with the outcome. I paid $65 for the hairstyle and shampoo that they were using and selling that made my hair very dry with no conditioner nor shine at all, and on top of that I also gave my stylist a $20 tip which brought my total to $85 from the visit. The moral of the experience is that if you are looking to get dreads or braids and no other hairstyles, then deep in the roots is for you. But for me I will take my business elsewhere.

I went to this hair salon today. Completely unprofessional and the stylists have no clue about customer service. A stylist, Ms. Teresa called before I arrived to inform me that she was running behind and wanted me to show up an hour later. I couldnt because one appointment was for me and the other one was for my daughter. I get there and the person, Ms. Ray was not there. My appointment with her was 1:15 pm and another stylist said she was "on her way". Ms. Ray didnt show up until after 2 pm and she walked in and told a client to go to the shampoo bowl. But MY appointment was before the other clients appointment. Absolutely unprofessional. And another stylist told Ms. Ray when she walked in that I had been waiting. Ms. Ray never even acknowledged me! Unprofessional and rude. My daughter and I left. I will NEVER go back to this salon. I also told 4 other people that are transitioning and looking for natural hair stylists not to go to this salon because of their unprofessionalism.

I went to Deep In The Roots on today for two strand starter locs and Im beyond pleased with the work done by Ms. Ray... again! I had my Locs started with the palm roll method 5 months ago elsewhere and was never satisfied due to thinning, breaking, and inconsistency in my parts/sections. I took them down over the weekend and had them restarted by Ms. Ray. The work done is flawless. This is my second go round with locs. Its funny how I went to Deep in the Roots back in 2010 and walked out of the salon on today with that same level of pride and confidence in how the neat their work is at the salon. As you can tell, I really embrace the look of manicured locs. I highly recommend this salon for those of you who feel the same.

Your locs will be combined without your knowledge. Alexis combined my locs without my knowledge. I came back and said something, and it had to be fixed. I came back again on March 21, 2017 my one year loc Anniversary and she (Alexis) combined my loc s agsin. My locs was started by a sister loc specialist which means I had perfect lines and the same size locs. Of course they are messed up. Im highly upset and do not recommend anyone to go to Alexis.

Ive researched different locticians several times before coming here. Mrs Rays knowledge of natural hair was amazing compared to others. Shes about hair care, hair growth which I LOVED. Ive had my interlocks( theres a difference) going on 3yrs. My locs are beautiful and hair has grown, edges have grown with her hair products. I get compliments all the time. She works w your schedule. Honestly I wont go anywhere else.
