My father has always instilled in my sisters and I to always challenge our palates. With him I had tried Indian food before and well to put it mildly - never wanted to try it again. So, when my dear boyfriend asked that we go eat at place that his best friend and he used to dine at together, before his best friend passed away three months ago - I couldnt say no. I kept my previous opinions about Indian food to myself as I didnt want to ruin a very emotional experience for him and I decided to challenge myself to keep an open mind. My dear boyfriend suggested a platter (the first one in the list I cant remember the name, even though Ive had it several times now) and the very friendly female server also suggested a almond-sauced vegetable dish (again cant remember the name). When the food came out, I quietly coaxed myself into keeping an open mind and opened wide. WOW, it was really good! I couldnt believe it!! I actually didnt totally gross out on the food; in fact, it was a flavor explosion quite to my liking. The platter has several dishes included in it; one comes out much like sizzling fajitas - you hear it way before you see it. It has a bed of sizzling onions and on top of the grilled onions, several types of meats - chicken, ribs, lamb, beef - all kind of a red color. The color initially really threw me off - almost enough to not want to try it, but I am sure glad I did go ahead and bite in - each piece is delicious and juicy, not over-cooked and dry. In addition to this sizzling delight, the platter also has two sauced dishes - one with red sauce and garbanzo beans. This was the only part of the meal I didnt like - I could definitely eat it, but it just wasnt on the, "Holy-wow, this is good"-List. The other sauced dish is an orange color - this I dont think I could live without for the rest of my life - it has some pieces of meat in it and I eat it with the rice that is served in abundance with this platter. Also this platter comes with your choice of soup or salad. We usually get the tomato basil or the mushroom soup. A final note on this platter is that it comes with a piece of onion-infused "bread" which I dont know the name, but it is kind of like a piece of pita bread but it a little different than regular pita - but again delicious! The second dish we ordered - the almond sauced all vegetable dish was also on the "Holy-Wow"-List. It is yellow in color and has a real kick to it. I like to eat this with the rice as well. To add a bit of variety, the sauces also serve as good dipping sauces for the "bread" and the meats served with the platter. When asked how we liked our food, mild, medium or spicy - we chose medium the first time. Since then, Ive asked that it be a notch below medium, but not mild - and this Goldie Locks says, "THIS is juuuuuuuuust right!" The food was great, the services very friendly and prompt, she actually remembered me when I came in by myself a week after the first time, and everything I had ordered, exactly the way my dear boyfriend and I had ordered it. Again, "Holy-Wow". All in all, I can proudly say - I really LIKE Indian food! Thanks Taj Mahal for changing my mind. Taj Mahal is on the "Holy-Wow"-List.

I havent ate here in 7 months because the food was going downhill. Hopefully its gotten better by the new reviews I see. I used to go there alot because the food used to taste so good. But as of this year or sometime late last year, I think they hired new people that dont know how to cook Indian food properly or right. The masala started tasting like campbells tomato soup and would have no flavor at all.There were times I would order the Bhuna gosht, and it would be delicious, and the next time I ordered, it would have no taste at all and I would feel like I wasted 15.00 dollars. Their were other items on the menu I would order and some days it would be made right and the next it didnt taste right or have any kind of flavor at all. I would have to season the food myself to get the flavor just right until one day I asked them to remake my food, they did and it still tasted bad. I dont know what happened to this place but I remember the food used to be packed with alot of flavor, now the food has no taste. I now go to the Roti grill because they are consistent in flavor. I realized how bad the place had gotten when I drove by, because they only had 1 or 2 customers eating there on the weekend whereas when I passed by other Indian restaurants that same day they were packed with people. However the manager and waitresses are great, I really like them, they are always friendly, and welcoming. I really liked the place and wouldnt mind going back but they need to monitor and taste the food they are cooking before serving it to people. No one appreciates spending 15 to 19 dollars on food with no taste.

I love this restaurant, it is my sanctuary. I found it tucked away next to a huge Chinese buffet. Ever since then I have only gone to this shopping center for Taj Mahal. It is a dark quiet place, but very welcoming. I always feel at peace when I walk in. I love their food, Ive only had their buffet, my favorites have always been the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Saag Paneer. I have taken only a few close people who I know appreciate good Indian food or who are interested in trying it. Everyone I have taken or told about it, were very pleased. I have been going here on and off the past year, but each time I go Geta always remembers my face. She is so sweet. Its nice to go to a place and feel like youre not just another customer, especially when youre trying a new cuisine. I would (and do) highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to try Indian food, and the buffet is not super spicy for those of you who are afraid of Indian food because of the spice. I am not sure how much other Indian buffets are these days, but for the price I can honestly eat a couple plates of their food at lunch time and it holds me over for the majority of the day.

Best Indian in Dallas! It is family owned and consistently good for 20 plus years. A friend introduced me to this place 13 years ago and we have been eating here on a regular basis ever since, usually the weekly or Saturday buffet. Also, have a Sunday night buffet. It is always fresh and constantly replenished with a large variety of delicious and healthy choices. Vegan and gluten free available. There is also an incredibly extensive dinner menu and drinks available.The owner is almost always on site and will answer any questions you have about the dishes and welcomes any suggestions you might like to see added to the menu. We had tried other Indian restaurants before going here but only eat Indian here now. Catering and take out available. It is in a small shopping center that can be easy to miss if you are not aware its there--at Meadow and Central in Tom Thumb shopping center.
