I decided to give the Midas on 2100 south another try after a long hiatus. The reason for not using their shop was that they had previously replaced my air filter. When I got home and checked it, and there was nothing where the air filter should have been (except air). But the reason Ive finally decided to write a review was for a botched muffler job. I went in for an oil change and Ernie told me that my muffler had a hole in it. I checked and agreed. He gave me a quote for the muffler which seemed fair, so I asked him to complete the work. About a week later my check engine light went on so I brought it back to get checked. The Midas techs completed a series of tests on the computer, told me it was my O2 sensor and would be $180 to replace. I had difficulty trusting their hasty assessment. So I went to another mechanic who found that when the techs at Midas had replaced the muffler and pipes they hadnt used the correct gaskets where it connected to the catalytic converter, and that no gaskets had been installed where the O2 sensor connects (although I had been charged for them). This was causing exhaust to leak at these connections, which then made the check engine light come on. I had the second shop complete the repairs, and when I went back to Ernie with this information he told me he wasnt authorized to refund the cost of the labor that I requested. He told me that Paul Day (owner) had to make those authorizations, but he wasnt around. I saw Paul in the bay just after Ernie told me he wasnt there. I went back an hour later and confronted Ernie. Ernie told me that "Paul was busy", but had authorized a return on the labor and the gaskets. Ernie and his techs were given a chance to make it right the first time around, but instead tried to charge me for more parts and labor. I would highly recommend avoiding this Midas unless you want to be charged for work that isnt completed correctly or at all. If you do choose to use this Midas then I would make sure to check that the work was completed correctly. I would also be aware that they will try to sell you shocks, transmission flushes, air filters, and brakes whether you need them or not. Be aware of the unnecessary upsell.

HORRIBLE! NEVER GO HERE! WISH I COULD GIVE NO STARS! This place sucks - I wish I would have read these reviews BEFORE putting myself in jeopardy at this place. I get an oil change yesterday, and they manage to horribly screw it up. Something so seemingly simple, they royally screw up. I wake up this morning to a good sized oil puddle under my car (less than 24 hours after the oil change.) I decide that I will go back to tomorrow because it is Sunday and they were currently closed. I drive to my destination (about a 20 minute drive, mostly freeway.) When I arrive, I go inside for about 5 minutes. After which, I come back to my car and see a HUGE puddle of oil gathering underneath my car. It was on its way into the gutter and drain in the parking lot. I have someone check it, and so much oil has escaped that my car is now undrivable. Most of the oil that was put in the day before by Midas was now all over the parking lot and going down the sewer drain. I had to call a towing service through my dealership. Luckily they were also able to give me a ride-- a ride to work and at this point I was already an hour late. My car was taken to my dealership and they are now going to start on my car first thing when they open tomorrow morning. Ken Garff will take good care of my car-- unlike these fools at Midas. Learn to do an oil change. NEVER GO HERE. They better smarten up or they will get run out of business. I had to learn my lesson the hard way today. Now I will only take my car to my dealership, Ken Garff, for maintenance-- including oil changes. Tomorrow I will also see how Midas is in addressing the problem. Im getting my money back. And hopefully my car will have nothing else wrong because of the oil problem. If it does, Midas is paying for that too. I will write another review tomorrow addressing Midas handling of my problem. EDIT: So Midas was good in handling my problem. The owner called and was apologetic. He made sure to call me first thing this morning. Apparently they fired the guy who worked on my car. They also paid $82 of my bill at Ken Garff. Im glad Midas handled this problem appropriately. I will still never return, but I appreciate their handling of my situation.

I called in for an oil change, made an appointment and took my car in. When I got there, they said it will take half an hour wait for them to get started on my car. (Whats the point of an appointment system if they arent going to make the appointments?) I know that things come up so I said alright and took a seat. I did get bored and left for a bit to go do some small shopping at Walgreens to kill time. I come back and we waited an extra hour!! All together, it took close to two hours for an oil change!! I looked out to my car a few times and each time, no one was even over at my car! And the guy who was working on my car, the couple of times, kept walking away from my car to talk to the other guys!! So I waited almost 2 hours for some guy to mess around, socialize and not work on a simple oil change that should only take around half an hour?! Ive gone to many other places and they all took only about 30 minutes and that with other customers being there!! Then once it was done, the guy tells me about all these problems with my car, saying that my fluids were contaminated and that my serpentine belt was old, frayed and cracking. I had my father-in-law check it out yesterday...and guess what? They were in perfect condition!! Once he showed me my belt, I was enraged that they tried to get me to perform work on something that was perfectly fine!! There were no cracks, no frays, nothing!! I will never go here again, after reading the other reviews, Im glad they didnt just start working on it and charged me! Ill give them that much. But otherwise...I dont trust these guys at all. Horrible work ethics!! (OH, and my father-in-law checked my oil and he said it was half way low!! I got this oil change two months ago!! Usually my oil doesnt get low for 5 months after an oil change!! There were no leaks or anything, so this means that they didnt even fill up my oil all the way!!)

TOTAL SCAM! DO NOT EVER GO THERE! I usually take my car to the Toyota dealership in Murray but since I didn’t have time that day, I took it to the Midas in Sugarhouse. I needed an oil change and also needed to get my winter tires switched back to summer ones. I found a $19.99 coupon and showed it to them, but after 15 min of taking my car to the back they told me that my car needed a special synthetic oil, that was $20 more dollars (something that they never do at the dealership) so I told them just to put the normal one and they said that they couldn’t do that because then they would be reliable if something happened to my car so I told them fine and to just do it. Then they come back out and tell me that the thread on my tires is too low and that they can’t change it unless I get new tires. I had gotten my tires about 2 years ago so I started to be suspicious and just told them not to change them that I was going to figure something out. That’s when they told me that they were going to charge me for putting my car up on the dock and for taking the tire out! I was outraged! Couldn’t they have seen “that the thread was low” before they took ONE tire off?! I told them that I was not going to pay for that and then they proceed to tell me that they were going to charge me for throwing out the oil (something they never told me at the beginning either!!). They also told me that my wiper blades need to be changed! I’ve had my fiancé change them 5 days before!!!! I flipped out and told them that they are THIEVES!!!! I ENDED UP PAYING $67 FOR AN OIL CHANGE!!!!
