We called Sugarhouse Moving and Storage 2 weeks ago. We talked to Russ who recommended a 3 man crew. We discussed the rate and the 4 hr min. I was fine with this since they came recommended by a friend of mine. Russ put me on his schedule for 8:00am (I think). Moving day gets closer and I have not received a confirmation call from them to confirm the move. I was a little concerned. I called them the day before the move and left a message. The day of the move rolls around, we are frantically getting the last of our things put in boxes and ready for the movers to show up. 8:00am rolls by and no movers. I am now more than a little concerned. 8:15am I receive a call from Russ. He says his guys have called in sick and would not be able to make it. I am astounded. The buyers of our house are moving in the next morning and we have to be out of the house TODAY!! I explained this to Russ, and I asked is there anything he can do, because we have to be out of the house. His response was "Im sorry, there is nothing I can do". NOTHING???!! REALLY??!! You have no contingency plan? I desperately call around to any moving company I can find online. Luckily I find another big name mover who has a crew that can come at 2:30pm. I explained what had happened. He asks if I put a credit card on file with them when I reserved the crew from Sugarhouse. I said no, Russ never asked. He explained to me that common practice is to have the CC on file for a reservation and if I did not, it was suspect if I was even on their schedule. I was astounded, to say the least. This was a HUGE day for us, and we needed a company we could count on and Sugarhouse disappointed in the worst way. This new company gave us a break on the price, but it still cost about $200 more because we had to keep the crew past 6:00pm (overtime = Time+1/2). I would never recommend Sugarhouse to anyone.

WARNING: EXTORTIONISTS! The owners son did an appraisal to move our household items. He offered the lowest bid and won the job. When all of our things had been loaded into the truck we were handed the bill, which was 2.5 times GREATER than the bid. The owners son threatened to keep all our belongings if we didnt pay ON THE SPOT. They know that this kind of EXTORTION is lucrative yet not enough to be worth lawyers fees to take them to court. On a side note, the actual movers they employed, particularly the man who owned the truck they had contracted for the job, was very pleasant.
