6/17/14 Brad, I cannot tell you how disappointed and disgusted I am with United Van Lines. I was promised a good move and what I got was a nightmare! When my furniture arrived I was met with a very sullen driver who definitely didn’t want to be moving furniture into a home that day. As his crew started to move in the boxes I told them each box was labeled as to what room they should go in. I started checking off numbers and they started moving the boxes in. I thought everything was going well as they were moving so fast. Since I couldn’t check each and every box they brought in, as they were coming in thru the garage and the front door, I assumed they were putting them in the correct rooms. Boy was I wrong. I am finding wardrobe boxes in the basement that should be in the Master Bedroom, boxes in the small bedroom that should be in the basement and every room is the same. Some boxes I can’t find at all because of the way they stacked then in the rooms. I am now hiring people to come and sort thru and put the boxes where they belong and will have to pay again for a service I already paid for! Also, I’m not sure if you were informed, but the truck or the pallet my furniture was stored in had a leak and I have water damage on a quarter of my boxes. In fact, at least half of the boxes they delivered either had numerous holes punched in them, had been water logged or had been put in the wrong location. Every other box I open has something broken in it. As I packed myself I expected some damage but not in every other box. If you pack lamp shades in a box and then someone puts a box of books on them, you can expect it to buckle, and it did! There are numerous occasions when they did this. Three of my pedestals were broken which that were wrapped by United . The tinted pedestal was sat down in my white silk chair and now the chair is ruined from the large stain from the pedestal. I also have a large brown mud stain on one of my newly upholstered dining room chairs. If you could see how they stacked the boxes in the basement you would be astonished. They have large boxes on top of small ones, furniture on top of boxes, shelving stacked so haphazardly that I am having the company I had to hire restack everything. Some boxes I can’t even find! There was no excuse for this as they had a entire unfinished basement to put them in and the boxes were clearly marked. The customer representative from Pace Moving showed up an hour after the truck arrived and asked how it was going. What was I to say after only an hour? Now I know why they don’t show up the next day and asked how things went. When they were done, the driver asked me to sign a form showing that no damage was visible. I signed it as I had no idea the extent of the damage as they had moved almost everything in without my seeing it. Bigger fool me for not being able to see everything as it was being brought into the house. I am not even halfway done unpacking and am just appalled by the shoddy way my shipment was treated. Brad, I didn’t purchase the insurance because your assurance that this would be a really good move and your company would take good care of my belongings. Boy, was my trust misplaced! I will never use United again and would absolutely never recommend it to anyone!

First, let me say this is not my first trip to the circus. I’ve had two other cross-country moves. In both of those cases they had one thing in common – the moving van driver was totally in charge of the load, unload and everything in between. They had a plan and executed it. The “chain” is only as strong as the weakest link. Mesas weakest link was our driver. While the crew was staging our contents in our driveway I noticed nothing was getting loaded. I walked down to the van to find out what the situation was and discovered that the driver had arrived with a small boat on a trailer and an ATV from someone else’s load. In his words he needed to re-position the load in the trailer. It took him 5 hours (yes, 5!) to re-position this load in his van. He then wanted to build a deck above the boat/atv in the van but lacked the proper decking material. At this point you realize the moving day is starting to head south. This crew started out worth their salt. Unfortunately, their demeanor and give a s--- factor started to decline when they saw how inept the driver was. There was talk of mutiny at 3:30PM as they realized that what they thought would be a fairly straight forward load that finished by 5:00PM was now going to be a very, late night affair. They openly disrespected the driver in front me and complained they were doing his job. I bought the crew lunch and dinner to help “grease the skids” and keep things going. . At around 10PM it became apparent that not everything was going to fit on the van! They left with what was on the van at 11:30PM. That’s 14 hours to load approximately 12,500 pounds. The next day the same incompetent driver showed up with a helper to load the overflow (3,000 pounds) on a small truck. Included in the overflow inventory was a dining table and antique wagon bench. When I asked them to wrap these in blankets so they would not get scratched they said they didn’t bring any blankets with them! Safe to say the driver did not get any smarter driving cross country. The crew on the receiving end had to take control, otherwise they would still be there. When the overflow was finally delivered, the shipper opened the containers at our house and shook his head and said "whoever packed this either didn’t know what they doing or didn’t care – and by the looks of it, it was both". Lastly, any moving insurance you buy is as worthless as the paper its written on. They will mark your practically new items as being "scratched, dented, chipped, rusted, etc." so any claim is denied or paid out as pennies on the dollar.

When working with a moving company anyone should expect to have some issues. It is like working with an airline. The bar is pretty low. Mesa movers set the bar even lower. I wouldnt have minded if there were just a few items that didnt get packed the right way or broken along the process, that would have been great. I dont think I would have written a negative review if "normal" moving pains would have occurred. Instead, my reason for not recommending using Mesa movers is because from the very beginning there was a chronic lack of communication. The worst example was that once our things arrived 3 days late we had to call our moving coordinator to inform her that not all of our things had arrived. She didnt even know that all of things didnt arrive. I did speak with her and she explained the reason why she didnt know that all of our things had not arrived but it is just one of about 10 examples of a lack of communication. I was really frustrated by my experience so I decided to track down the General Manger of the business. I spoke with him and recounted my experience to him and at one point I made the comment that this had been a hellacious experience and probably the worst experience I have ever had. He then went on to question me in the most snarky of tones about whether it was really the worst experience I had ever had and if I really felt like it was hellacious. I was so shocked to hear from the general manager of a business and discuss excuse after excuse and not owning up to the problems along the way. That for me was the moment I realized how horrible of an organization I had chosen to work with. Even the general manager doesnt want to show some empathy. Because I have had such a poor experience I would never want to have anyone else go through it. I am happy to speak to you personally to help you avoid ever making the decision to move with these guys. If anyone wants to call me personally and chat about it I have listed my number below using letters for the first part so that I dont have spambots adding my numbers to random cold call lists. I am not usually the guy to give out my personal number but thats how much I think you are making a bad decision with an organization that not only doesnt care, but doesnt even pretend to care. Here is my number (Eight Zero One) 472-8716
