First off I come from a car family, my family members have been national service advisers for both General Motors, and Toyota. I have done all of my own car repairs up until I made enough to afford to have someone else do it. So, I went to the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) website and found the nearest SAE certified service center, which was Alta View tire & service. I then brought my fiancées vehicle in for a power steering leak. They said the power steering pump needed to be replaced, I had them do it. However, the price they charged me was more than quoted ($438 vs. $387 before tax). The reason they gave was, a fitting was frozen into the back of the old pump and had to be replaced. While this was not ideal I paid the price without hesitation; as the car is 8 years old and, in my experience, things like this happen. Unfortunately, 5 days later my fiancée called me at work and said the power steering had stopped working and she could see and smell smoke. I called them and they said to bring it in. The next morning I went and looked under the hood and the power steering pressure hose had blown off the fitting that they replaced. I called them and informed them of this and they said we should have the car towed, so that they did not have to replace the power steering pump; as it would be damaged if driven without power steering fluid. I asked about the price of towing and he said that it would be covered if it was something they worked on, so I had them tow it in. They called later and said that it was going to be $275 to fix. They stated that the pressure hose was worn out and did not fit into the quick connect fitting (this is the fitting they replaced). This was upsetting as the mechanic should have noticed this before. Then when I went to pick it up they added a $75 towing charge at the register. This was unacceptable because the blown pressure hose was from a connection that they made. Additionally, while they maybe SAE certified, I would have expected an SAE certified mechanic to know when a part should be replaced, and is no longer serviceable (the power steering pressure hose).

I came to the establishment asking them to check out the cause of my check engine llight. One of the gentleman at the front desk told me itd cost me the upside of $90 and two hours, non-negotiable. What if they opened the hood and the problem was apparent immediately? I was really frustrated. I was especially unhappy because one attendant offered to help me right as I walked in, and as soon as that guy left to prep the bay, the guy who wanted $90 stepped in and handed me his card. What a cut throat establishment! I absolutely will never, ever go there again. For the record, I went to a Les Schwab Tire Center and they had my check engine light off in fifteen minutes for free. They told me to come back for a free diagnostic if it came back on. In my Yahoo review, I was accused of being an employee of Les Schwab. Im a woman who works and lives in Sandy, and have been doing so for over a decade. Its ridiculous that bad reviews arent allowed to stand on their own without some outlandish accusation by Alta Views employees.

At the end of the day we all just want a mechanic we can trust. Alta View has been servicing all four of my vehicles for a couple of years now, and Andrew is a true professional. He treats each car like his own, and takes extra steps to not just repair what you asked him to but lets you know what could become a problem in the future. There is no pressure and no doomsday approach like with other mechanics. He just gives you the info and lets you make the call on what you want to address now and what can wait until later. He understands that my vehicle is carrying my most precious cargo when I am traveling with my family and no dollar amount is worth sacrificing their safety. These guys arent the cheapest out there, but my dad taught me that you get what you pay for. All parts and work is warrantied. They know what they are worth and they charge accordingly, and I do the same thing in my business so I understand completely.

Total bait and switch. I called them up to get a quote on installing some breaks and new rotors that I purchased on Amazon. They quoted me what I thought was a fair price and told me I was looking at about 4 hours to complete the job. 5 hours later they called me and to my surprise they told me that the price they had originally quoted me was for only one axle and it was going to be an additional charge to do the other axle and 2-3 more hours. This is a tactic that many mechanic shops will do to jack the price up on unsuspecting customers because most people will just say, okay... Funny thing was that I specifically told them upfront that I needed all four rotors and pads installed. Long story short if you use them make sure you are perfectly clear on what they are providing and at what price.

Late last night, as I was putting air in my tires, one of my valve stems "snapped" inside (you could move the little stop freely in a circle) and my tire started leaking air. This morning, I filled up the tire with a foot pump I keep in my car and put the cap on to try to have it "hold" until I drive it as quickly as possible to a convenient place nearby. I chose this shop based on the generally positive reviews and proximity to my house. They got my car in immediately (I was hoping they would to prevent damage to the tire as it was deflating rapidly because of the faulty valve stem), and replaced the valve stem within 20 minutes, without even charging me for it. I know free tire repair is not "unheard of" with tire shops, but the least I can do is leave a positive word. Thanks!

Im not a mechanic but Im also not an idiot Eddie. Id had multiple free diagnostics at auto stores the conclusion cam shaft sensor. Alta view was the cheapest quote but Eddie said I shouldnt trust free diagnostics for only $90 wed know for sure. The result? Oh our machine cant really tell the difference between cam and crank shaft sensors so lets replace both and add a funky magnet. Im sure replacing both was the right call but dont sale me on an expensive test that gave you the exact same code that the free one gave me. Im having both replaced right now at the first auto shop I saw when I drove out of your lot..... The owner did call me back and try to make things right which I did appreciate.

Under new ownership, BEWARE! !! Due diligence is key here. If they can make more money they will. Not open for solutions,so make no mistakes here. Its a shame that the dollar bill is more important than a happy customer. I guess the new owner doesnt understand what its like to own a business in Utah. The previous ownership did. So check pricing on all goods and services. I certainly will not be back as well as my circle of influence the reaches here to California. I was treated better at any Big O. Too bad I reached out for a local service. Very disappointed. Spoke to 3 people that werent willing to help. I hope you wont make the same mistake.
