My experience at Moxie; As a loyal customer I have been very very disappointed with my todays visit. I went with a picture to get partial highlights done couple of weeks ago , first i was told by the stylist that she can not follow the picture because there is flash light, this and that. I let her do my highlight and it was totally not what i wanted. I left the lounge and before checking out I paid and made another appointment to go back and get it fixed. The next time when I went there the stylist was not very happy and complained that it is a long process to do, my hair was dark to lift the color and many more complaints. she put whatever she wanted and I did not see any changes. later when I called the manager after debating with myself to call or not because I did not want to hurt anybodys feelings, I decided to get my hair done as I wanted, since i had paid over $200. when I called I was told that It would be on Moxie, but when I got to Moxie and got seated I was told that there was a charge for the service and I had to sign a waver that I wouldnt complain later or come back to get my hair fixed if I was not happy. I had to go to the front desk to talk to the manager, the manager was very rude and she kept giving me an ultimatum, I decided to just leave their salon. I had paid for the service I had asked for, Moxie did not do any favors for me or anything for free. My time is very important to me each time I spent almost three hours there. Over all very rude manager, very bad customer service, all Moxie cares for is to get clients in and out, they dont care about clients satisfactory. That means very unprofessional, because customers satisfactory comes first.

MOXIE – Hip Hair and Hip Atmosphere! Look no further than Moxie for all of your hair care needs! We all know how hard it is to find a hair salon you like, and especially a hair stylist that you like! You can stop looking any further and make an appointment with Todd at Moxie. I have known Todd for over 10 years and have followed him around every corner of Charlottesville, and am so happy that he now has Moxie to call his own! I have very curly hair and it is hard to find someone who knows how to cut it perfectly. Innovation is Todd’s calling card, no matter your mood, time of year, or special occasion, he will execute the perfect cut for you every time! When I moved to the west coast a few years ago, I was faced with finding a new stylist! As many people as I tried, no one lived up to Todd, my personal Gold Standard. I made the command decision to schedule all of my hair appointments 2500 miles east with Todd in Charlottesville! Today my commute is a bit shorter from Northern Virginia, but all of my hair needs are met at Moxie! No one else measures up to Todd – he is worth the trip! Todd and his team at Moxie also did all of the hairstyles for both my wedding and my sister’s wedding and we were both soooo pleased with the results! I can’t imagine having anyone else even touch my hair! For the BEST hair and the BEST conversation (we all know that is important!), go to the BEST – MOXIE!

When I moved to Charlottesville last year, I asked around for recommendations for doctors, dentists, grocery stores, hairdressers, etc. While all of my friends and co-workers had various favorites for other categories, EVERYONE said that Moxie was the only place to go for hair and spa services. They were not wrong. Todd has done a terrific job with my hair, and I have been delighted after every cut. The shampoo usually includes a short head and neck massage, which I love. While I have not used their services, friends swear by Richard and Kizzy as well. I was worried that parking would be a little dicey so close to the downtown mall area, but I have never had a problem. When construction made things difficult, Moxie had staff helping customers find parking in makeshift lots across the street. The best part is that I can get my hair cut or nails done and my husband and daughter go have fun at the Childrens Discovery Museum. Its a win-win!

I received horrible highlights. I asked to be "brighter" for my upcoming wedding and instead I left with white hair and very noticeable dark roots. This appointment wasted 3 hours of my time and I paid over $200. I have never complained about a hair service before (I have never even posted a bad review on Yelp for any type of service) but I needed my hair fixed before my wedding so I made an appointment a couple days later. When I went back my stylist was obviously agitated and angry. She said she did not have time to fix my hair so she put a lowlight glaze on it and said "it will last for a couple of weeks if you dont wash your hair everyday". She also made me pay for the glaze. Her bad attitude made me feel so uncomfortable, I asked to leave before my hair was completely dry. The owner got involved when I was leaving but honestly it was too little, too late.

Until I found Moxie, I was resigned to the fact that in order to get a really good haircut in Charlottesville, you either had to know someone personally who was amazing and would do it cheap or you had to pay a bundle and feel like your stylist was judging you the whole time you sat in his/her chair. A friend recommended Moxie, and I have not looked back. The atmosphere is fun and hip and friendly, the prices are not cheap but by no means the most expensive in town, and the cuts are top-notch. I am having my hair done regularly for the first time in my life. My husband and I have talked about moving to Richmond, and my first thought was planning how my schedule could get me back to Cville every 8 weeks for my haircut, because I refuse to change salons. I have had zero bad service or experiences there in 3 years - nothing but good. LOVE THEM!

For some reason, this gem doesnt get written up with the rave reviews in the weeklies. Perhaps they like keeping the good stylists under their hats. You will pay a pretty penny to get your hair done here, but good costs money in Charlottesville. You can go get a budget cut and take care of the whispies and stragglers at home. No thanks. And Im pretty good at doing my own hair, but Id rather have someone else do it for me. I went to Bristles upon recommendation and got haircuts that made me look like a 45 year old soccer mom. Im not that old, nor do I wish to look like I live in suburbia. Ive always had a great job done at Moxie, even before I had a stylist. Brought in a pic the first time. My guy did an excellent job copying it. Great atmosphere, clean, friendly. Oh, and they also do manicures, pedis, and massages. Open Tuesday thru Saturday.
