Thank you for using the Better Business Bureaus Online Complaint System. Please print a copy of this for your records. Filed on : May 18 2013 Filed by : Samantha Brooks Newport News VA 23608 Filed against : Prudential Towne Realty 11844 Rock Landing Dr # A Newport News VA 23606 Complaint Description: Approximately 2 weeks ago I came across a property 56 Chipley Drive, Newport News. The property was listed at $900. I immediately began the application process. I called the Prudential Office in Hampton on Cunningham drive and spoke to a Timothy Tucker. I told him in our first conversation that my husband and I had a rental judgement from 2008 and a felony conviction in 2008. I explained the details of each situation and asked him if their was any point in applying. He assured me that the two things were so long ago and the fact that we had 5 years good rental and employment history was good enough for them. I cam down to the office that Wed 05/08 to submit an application and speak with Tim in person. Even though I had spoken with him, he was not there. I called and said "Hey! Im having a hard time submitting this app plus I havent been able to see the property" He said your absolutely right, let me send your info to my assistant. Assistant calls me 6 hours later and scheduled the viewing.I go on May 11 to take a look along with about 5 other families. I absolutely love the house and tell the showing agent I would like to apply. She instructs me on what to do. I then drop my husbands application in the drop box of their Newport News office. On Monday I contact their Newport News office to confirm my application was received. At this point I talk to Robin. She informs me that I need to do another application for myself. I told her Tim Tucker had instructed me to only do one. She said "Thats ok. Hes knew here" I said "Ok no problem but let me run some other things by you!!!! Because Im concerned that he may have given other mis info" Robin says "No he is the property manager. Anything else he told you is correct" So I turned in another application Monday at 4 pm. I called Wed to check on it no response. I called Thursday and spoke to Robin again. She told me the app had to be sent to their Chesapeake office for processing and once it was done it would go back to Tim Tucker with a yes or no. She advised I should contact him. I called Tim and asked what was going on. He assured me everything was fine but he was not in the office and as soon as he was back he would see if Chesapeake was done with our application. I reiterated to him the issues on our credit score and he repeated that those things were no issue. At 330 Timothy Tucker called me back to tell me "Maam I dont think you should even waste your money applying here. With this judgement and felony I just know you wont be approved. you might as well come pick up this $100 money order and use it elsewhere" I said "WHAT THE HECK? I thought we were all good and those things were not a big deal" He said "Im sorry but our policy changed and I wasnt aware of it but good luck to you" Needless to say I was devastated. The next morning I get up and begin looking for another place as I now am down to under 2 weeks to find our new home. I see then that the price on 56 Chipley Dr Newport News VA has gone from $900 which is the price I was applying for it at, to $1100. I am stunned now. I feel like my application was never processed at all even though they had my info for 4 days. I feel the only reason we were denied is because they got so much interest on the home that they wanted to raise the price. I immediately contacted Robin, told her my story, and was told "Hang on, let me tell this to my supervisor and we will call you right back" I never heard from either. I believe this company is running a scam and it is not okay. They wasted 2 weeks of my time and energy for no reason and really did not care.

Dont count on the employees to show up to work on time. Must be nice to not have to be punctual about getting to work in the morning. Your office opens at 9am. Your residents expect you to be there by then. Dont count on getting a call back. I always have to call again and again to find out whats going on with my maintenance issues. I once sent emails and left voicemails and finally had to call the guy again the next day after to get a hold of him. I dont like having to hound people down, but its what is necessary with BHHS. Ive mentioned three times (at least) that our jetted tubs jets dont work. Thats been an issue for 6 months and its still not fixed. Our fire place hasnt worked since we moved in. Same thing. Nothing was ever done. Theyll fix what is deamed an emergency/essential but will ignore anything else. Also, none of the appliances (dish washer, stove, washer, dryer) worked when we moved in. We couldnt even cook for over a week. Im currently waiting for my property managers assistant to arrive to work (after 9:15am). Our AC isnt working. Its supposed to be 98 degrees today, but it MIGHT NOT even be assessed today. So I guess well just sweat. Cool, thanks. After this rental experience, we wont be doing business with BHHS ever again.

I always have my intelligence questioned at the front desk. Maybe I look retarded but once everything is sorted out i walk out with everything taken care of. What I mean is that they ask me the dumbest questions like if the place im renting is managed through them so I give them the look...
