Hired Stewart Moving & Storage (SMS), Jacksonville, FL to move me from Florida to Virginia in October 2016. I stressed to the salesman, Gregg Merritt, that because Im disabled and live alone, even though it was expensive, I had no choice but to include the "packing" and "unpacking" options. I live in pain and spend most days in bed, so having to be up and about for long periods would be a stresser. Merritt told me that my move should be about 4-5 hours. When my items arrived in VA, ONLY THE TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED to deliver my 4200 lb of items. Part of the move process that the leader of the move team in Florida did in his paperwork was keeping note of the box numbers and its contents. Because the SMS driver was alone, I had to do the box confirmation log. It took the truck driver--the only person they sent--9 hours and I had to stay out of bed, in pain, and because of the paperwork I had to process, I could not take my pain medication. In addition, no one showed up to unpack, so my items stayed in boxes. When I did open them, I found broken lamps in boxes with shoes, my clothes crushed under shoes and artwork. In tall garment boxes, none of my clothes were hung up!! They had been taken off hangers and thrown into the boxes, all wrinkled and crushed, including leather and sequined garments and handbags. I called Merritt who said he would have the office send me a refund check for pack/unpack. I never received it. December 2016 supervisor S. Cordero wrote in an email that he was sorry for all of the problems in move, I should submit paperwork and my claims would be processed "expeditiously." Today SMS claims that I was never charged for pack/unpack, that I owe them money, they never promised more than one staff in VA. (How can they admit that?) I contend why did Cordero not state in his Dec. email, 2 full months after my move and more than enough time to review my contract, that I didnt pay for "pack/unpack?" In fact, he says I will be compensated. If I didnt pay or I owed them anything, that statement would have been made right away? I contend how can I all of a sudden now owe SMS money when they industry policy is they wont take items off the truck until my contract was paid in full?!! Finally, where is the money they owe me for the same work I had no choice but to do on my delivery in VA, that was the same task done by the SMS team leader in FL??? SMS will not answer any of these questions, but throws up smoke with cagey accounting discounts they claim I received--which are all untrue. UPDATE: SMS again came back the EXACT SAME RIDICULOUS ANSWERS. (1) Do you tell all interstate clients that you may only send 1 person to deliver their property?? Did you tell me that? Who would hire you if they knew? (2) Claiming to not charge a disabled person for the one service that was not an option is not only a lie, but indefensible. Would a doctor tell a patient "I didnt charge you for the chemo, so its okay that I didnt administer it."? SMS lies left me in a horrible position. (3) Its an Industry rule that movers will not move your property off the truck unless they are paid in full. Thats why if you pay with a credit card, which can be used as a receipt, they charge extra!! So how is it they now claim I owe them money? (4) Why did Mr. Corderos office manager, S. Lavelle, say in her November 2016 email that it was terrible, and she was sorry, that this happened to me. Why did their office supervisor, Stephen Cordero, follow up in his December 27, 2016 email, telling me after I submitted my claim documents to the main office--which I did--they would compensate me "expeditiously." They refuse to answer or speak to any of these very same points I keep have constantly presenting to them. They have no facts that they can hide behind, so they throw up lies and hope they stick.

Im moving across the country so I have not unpacked or had my shipment delivered yet, but on the loading side of things, Stewarts Moving was great! I worked with Chris and one other employee (wish I could recall his name), both were very friendly, answered any questions that I had and worked quickly. The only minor thing that irked me a bit was that they marked some patio furniture as soiled that was literally brand new, never used and stored inside (I just couldnt pass up a recent sale Target had!) because it had some fibers from the faux fur pillow that had been packed already on the cushions. But I also understand some of that probably comes from experience of having people be extremely picky about the quality of their items upon delivery so it only bugged me a bit (and Chris explained to me that on their end there is a difference between the conditon of soiled and stained), not enough to deduct a star. Will update if all my things arrive broken but I highly doubt that after seeing the care they took in wrapping things and loading :) Plus, anytime I move myself I know something always breaks (usually more than one thing) so Ill just be happy if it arrives less broken than it would have if Id done the move myself, lol

We first used Stewart Moving & Storage when we located to North Palm Beach, FL. Subsequently, we decided to relocate back to Richmond and based on our prior move, contacted Stewart for our return. Our goods were packed expertly, and because we were waiting for our new home to be completed, we shipped 1/2 of our goods to storage and the other half was delivered to a temporary apartment. Now we are occupying our new home and with half of our goods moved, we are awaiting the last items in storage. They will be delivered next week. I cant say enough nice things about Stewart. From the office personnel to the drivers to the movers, all were not only knowledgeable about their services, but the care they took with our goods was commendable. Nothing was damaged, all items were delivered when promised, and the prices charged were reasonable and appropriate. Finally the men moving our goods were polite, courteous, clean and had clean uniforms. AND their trucks were clean. Stewart is a top flight outfit and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others. Whether cross country or cross town, I believe you can count on Stewart Moving & Storage. As a military kid (now far older) I tend to move A LOT! This was my 2nd move in 3 years and I wanted someone local since I was only going a few hours away. From Day 1 the people at Stewart Moving & Storage were FANTASTIC! My quote was actually a little higher than what I ended up paying which made me happy. The 3 gentlemen that came to move everything couldnt have been more congenial and helpful. They even helped me with the last bit of cleaning!!! Once we arrived at my new location, they were AMAZING! I let them know where everything went, changed my mind a few times and they re-moved things around for me until I was satisfied! They treated my household goods as if they were their own and I couldnt be more pleased! True professionalism at its finest! Im actually moving again after my lease is up in my current location and when I do, they will be the ONLY company I call! 2 thumbs up for sure!!
