The Northshore Y is a beautiful facility. It was remodeled a couple of years ago and includes 2 gyms along with the usual 25 yd pool, racquetball courts, childcare areas, indoor track, teen areas, cardio rooms, a rock climbing wall (outdoors), spinning room, free weight room, etc. If you want to continue your workout outside, it is located right next to a series of walking/riding trails along North Creek and you can also easily connect to the Sammamish River trail and eventually the Burke-Gilman with just a little street riding (with bike lanes all the way). The instructors are wonderful and welcoming and the varied classes are popular. For lap swimmers, one lane is always open, sometimes the entire pool, depending on the time. There are classes available for all levels of fitness and there is a thriving older adult population doing water aerobics, pilates, dance, etc, along with the usual toddlers in swim lessons, adults in aerobics, yoga, etc. and teenagers/college kids in the weight and cardio areas as well as playing basketball in the gym. All levels of fitness are comfortable here, and you see some very unfit folks on the path to improvement working out next to experienced triathletes and both feeling welcome and challenged. In winter you need to arrive early for classes before they fill up. They have occasional specialized programs (usually with small fees) such as rock climbing (belaying) certification, scuba certification, life guard training, and a summer long triathlon training program for newbies. There is an ongoing multisport (triathlon) workout group (free) with fabulous volunteer and staff trainers that do track workouts, bike rides and swims. There is masters swim program with a couple of great coaches (free to members). Almost all classes and programs are free to members, with a few exceptions such as massage and swim lessons. I have been a family member for about 8 years and continue to be impressed. Im always finding some new program or class that interests me and keeps me motivated. I started out very unfit, got some (free) personal assistance, and have slowly become more and more fit and happy. I love their computerized FitLinxx program, which remembers for me which weights I use and all the proper settings, and tells me what I lifted last and what my goals are. It tracks my cardio workouts to give me feedback. This Y is always clean with lots of towels and the people are always friendly. And cell phones are BANNED outside of the lobby - fabulous!

I went with my friends to the body shop class a couple of weeks ago on a Friday morning. The instructor was very unproffesional. We had to leave before the class ended because one of my friends had an appointment and I had to give her a ride. While leaving the class, the female instructor started insulting us out loud and in front of the rest of the class. She was wearing the microphone and everyone could hear the embarrasing comments she was saying to us. The whole class was laughing at us. This got me really mad because Im not paying my monthly membership to have this unprofesional instructor come and insult me and tell me what to do. If I cant stay the whole class, that is not her problem. She should follow the class since she gets paid for it, but not be mocking at us. Me and my friends like this class and this is the time we get the change to go. I would like that instructor to be replaced because we dont want to go while she is there and she is not qualified for the job.

One of the best YMCAs Ive been to in the Seattle area. Even before its recent lobby remodel (in the spring of 2013), its equipment and facilities have generally been topnotch, especially their cardio equipment. Recently, Ive been getting into lap swimming as a workout, and I really like the fact that they almost always keep a lane or two open for swimmers, regardless of what else they have going on. My only complaint would be that they keep their pool temperature a little low (I like WARM water), but they have a hot tub in the pool area as well so you can warm up before or after your workout.

Doesnt have all of the state of the art equipment but does have clean, well maintained, and enough of your usual racks, pulley systems and plenty of newish ellipticals and treadmills. Staff is friendly and the indoor running track is nice. Only notably negative is that its super crowded on weekends with all of the kids activities. Also the free weight room is separate from the cardio and strength machines which can be an inconvenience.

The facility is good but I hate their policy - we are going to a different gym (because my kid joins their tennis team) and they refused to refund me the monthly fee because we didnt tell them 14-day in advance! This ruins my impression toward Northshore YMCA a great deal - @NorthshoreYMCA, why are you so money crunching? I was never told about this policy during the 2+ years I was there?

l like here.Training room and gym have enough space.Basket ball place is almost empty. The problem is, l met a couple of people just walking in the lap lane in the swimming pool. That is really annoying. They have edge large area to walk.Without this, great facility.

The pool is always crowded on the weekends. It happened twice in the past month that we could not get in because the pool was at capacity. My kids were very disappointed. Switching to a different swimming place...
