I got OK service. To be fair, I had the same experience with Gene Johnson that I had with Fox Plumbing last year. Someone comes out, reviews your situation, looks up a service in a book, and then does literally that service at a flat fee. Its expensive, and it isnt necessarily a solution - the plumber doesnt really size up the situation fully. In both cases, I wound up undoing the plumbers work afterwards to fix the actual problem. In this case, they cleared a root mass, but simply shoved the roots up the line until they jammed against a second root mass, which they "couldnt" clear because as the owner said in follow-up, they treat this type of line with "kid gloves." They could have said up front: we can try to clean it, but we have to be conservative, so you would be better off digging up the line, since its relatively shallow here. They told me that after the fact, but it came off as an excuse. It also didnt explain why they couldnt get the roots they cut out of the line - I pulled them out of the line the next day with a hand snake. Ive had ONeill clean this same line before, and they were able to clear it and get the cut roots out. Why Gene Johnson couldnt, I dont know. When I dug up the line, I did find a second root mass, but it was no worse than the first, so why they couldnt clear it is also a mystery to me. Im giving them three stars (instead of two) because they did do a couple of things they didnt have to. They knocked $100 off the quoted price. They ran a camera up the line, although they used that to justify giving up - see, there are the roots, but its fine - things can still drain. The line was so slow that if I had left it at what theyd done, my yard would have flooded badly in this past weeks rains. On the plus side, scheduling was a breeze, which is why I went with them. The crew showed up right on time. The scheduler was very nice and conscientious.

Customer Service office review: I called today to get a basic idea of the cost of plumbing a gas line into the house. We are researching converting our house to gas. The man on the phone while pleasant sounding, was sadly unhelpful. I asked if I could get a general price range for this type of work. He simply said "no". After I paused a while for more info, awkward, he said he only answered the phones and that they would not give any kind of estimate or wide price range. I said can you tell me if its thousands of dollars? He said no. I asked if there was anyone else who could give me a general price range, he then said they would be happy to send someone to the house to give an estimate for the cost of $49 dollars. I said that was disappointing. I get that each house is different and a range could be wide...but youve got to come up with a better answer. I would have been satisfied with an answer of say $200 to $2000. But to leave a potential customer hanging with absolutely no idea if this type of work is hundreds of dollars (we could do it) versus thousands of dollars (we couldnt do it). Not worth me paying $49 dollars if I cant afford the general price range of the intall. The reviews on their work seem great, and Im sure they dont need my business, but I will be going elsewhere.

I tried to replace a kitchen faucet recently. Unfortunately, the old one cant be removed due to rust. I think I need find some helper. I called GP due to the positive online reviews. And they sent a nice man, Woody, to investigate my situation within three hours. Finally, he found the problem is not only caused by the old rusty faucet but the old cheap valves as well. But the estimate cost blew away my budget. However, Woody just kindly suggested me to let him finish the part I cant do and I can finish the rest by myself. Then, my budget came alive again! He helped me replace those two old valves and remove the rusty faucet. His work was really fantastic and I put the new faucet purchased from Home depot without any trouble. So that, I definitely gave them five stars for their wonderful service. By the way, it is the first time to hire a plumber. I didnt compare the price with the others. Frankly speaking, it was more expensive than what I expected. The final cost was $450 + tax for one and half hours work.

We have used Gene Johnson for about three years now primarily to maintain our heating system. They have always been responsive and professional. Our latest issue was a leaking water heater that was discovered right before we were ready to leave for the weekend. I called Gene Johnson and they arranged for someone to come out on Monday. I drained the old water heater to avoid more leaking over the weekend. They were good about contacting me when there were delays on getting to us on Monday. They finally got to us around 6pm and worked until the new water heater was installed. They also recommended replacing the old galvanized piping with copper and scheduled to come back to complete that portion of the job. They are almost always prompt or call if there is any delay. I will continue to use them because of the excellent service they provide and the knowledgeable staff.

This is the 2nd time the tech Adam has done work for us. He has been thorough with the work, patient & responsive to my questions and offers suggestions or ideas to our problems (family home is 60 yrs old w/ galvinized plumbing!) Gene Johnson Plumbing has installed a new hot water tank, new plumbing from the kitchen drain and this last visit was to fix some things in our small half bath (leaking toilet/leaking sink). Adam worked on the last two projects and did a great job. I have to say the customer service is excellent (both via the phone and the techs in person)......and you pay for that. As others mentioned they are not cheap so I expect the work & customer service to be of a higher standard and thus far it is. We need to have all the galvinized replaced in the future and hope that Adam is still available when the time comes.

This is the 3rd time Ive had the fine folks at Gene Johnson come out to do work at our house, but its the first time where we had an urgent need. Overnight our 1950s bathtub faucet started leaking water at a rate of 10 gallons/hour, so I called Gene Johnson first thing this morning. They sent Roderick over right away, and he even arrived 30 minutes early! He got right to work, presented us with a couple options at varying budget levels, and promptly resolved the issue. Im very impressed. Roderick did a fantastic job, and even took about 30 minutes extra to educate me about what went wrong, and what needed to be replaced. He also took extra time to look at a few other plumbing projects that I had around the house, and provided advice and answers to all of my questions. Well certainly be requesting Roderick again!
