Ive had occasional problems, like when some extra memory they installed clashed with the BIOS of my machine and I had to come back to have them re-install it. But by and large, Ive always found them very helpful. Ive bought two nearly new Thinkpad/Lenovos from them a T61 and a T41 at excellent prices, and I think I bought my previous Dell from them. All of the machines lasted really well, and when I had minor questions, theyd even give free phone advice whenever they could--much better than the companys tech support. Ive also found them just really nice people, involved in the community, and just very helpful. I cant say my experience has been perfect--there have been occasional problems. But thats true with every store Ive ever gone to--computers are just balky animals. And when there have been problems, theyve always been really good about fixing them, without piling on extra charges. So I have no idea who these negative posters are--maybe they just had some bad luck, or expected to pay $200 for a machine with all the bells and whistles of a brand new one. But Ive been going to Seattle Laptop for at least six or seven years, mostly for new laptops (because theyre a little far from my house), but also for some upgrades, and some periodic repairs. I definitely trust their work and think theyre an excellent community resource.

Called last week and asked how much to rent a laptop for a day to support a job I have. Instant reply was $29 a day. Wrote it down very clearly, and I remember confirming that with them, because the price seemed low to me (I was expecting about $100). Called today to reserve the laptop on a Friday for the job on Monday and was told $89 for a week and they dont rent by the day and rent nothing for $29 a day. Totally denied the earlier quote. If they would have quoted me $89 on the first call, I would be happy, because the client is reimbursing me. But now, Ive already told the client $29, so I am screwed. Called back a second time to explain and ask what they could do and no compromise or help offered. I even asked about buying a refurbished used laptop from them and they had nothing to offer me cheaper than $800. Too bad, because I could have given them more of my business and referred them to my clients and colleagues. They cost themselves a lot more than $60 by not standing by their first quote. I only wish I could say that makes me happy, but it doesnt. Id much rather have my problem solved than have to write this negative review.

I have been doing business with this shop for almost six years. I bring them on average four to six laptops every month. They have a repair authorization form that the customer fills out describing the issue as well as providing a space that very clearly states the min. and max. the customer is willing to spend for the repair. Once filled out the rep will give you a ballpark range for the problem described, if the estimated cost is outside your range, leave. If not or if youre willing to accept the range then leave your machine knowing the work will be done in the most professional manner possible. The guys in the shop are always friendly, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile. Do they make mistakes, of course but the question is do they fix them and the answer is YES! Do things change from the best guess the rep gave you when you left your laptop, of course, do they call you, ABSOLUTELY. I have had several companies attempt to woo me away from Seattle Laptop, it isnt going to happen, they are just too damn good at what they do. Robert

Heres the review I promised! Seattle Laptop is fantastic. They actually saved me $600. I had spent my entire day off going from store to store trying to find a place that could diagnose and repair my laptop. After a day filled with the Blue Screen of Death and heartache, the screen stopped working, and the computer didnt display a hard drive indicator light. Both the Sony Store and BestBuy had informed me that my motherboard had failed, whereas Seattle Laptop actually went through a troubleshooting process that included looking INSIDE the computer, revealing that the problem was actually with the RAM, not the motherboard. They got my computer back into a state where I could get it working, and at no charge to me. Fantastic service, knowledgeable people, and while I didnt purchase anything, their prices were extremely fair. Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely. Next time I have a computer problem I cant fix myself, Ill be taking it here. Seattle Laptop actually knows what they are doing. Thanks again guys!

My boyfriend brought his laptop into Seattle Laptop to help him determine why it was not starting up correctly. They told him he had a virus (netlog.exe) and that his battery was bad and that it would cost $250 to fix everything. He picked it up and paid $90 for services and anti-virus software and a friend of mine was going to help with the rest. First, they sold my boyfriend free AVG software. I have already sent an email to AVG regarding this illegal activity. Secondly, we searched for the virus ourselves and if AVG found it, the information would be in the history file and it was not. In addition, there were no viruses. We think they were trying to get $250 out of someone who isnt as computer savvy as others. No viruses, the laptop started up fine once we brought it home, we made all the correct upgrades and bought a new battery on E-Bay for $30 (Seattle Laptop quoted $89). DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR BUSINESS!!

Dropped off a laptop for repair, was given an estimate on time and cost. I was told it would be about a week. 10 days later, I had to call to check on the status of my repair, only be told it was ready. I feel they should have contacted me, not the other way around, when the repair was complete. When I went to pay, I was given an invoice and handed them my card. As they were preparing to swipe my card, they pulled the invoice and added $100 to it. (Going to from $80 after taxes to $185 after taxes.) Honest mistake? Maybe. But it reflects poorly on their attention to detail. The workmanship of the repair itself seems acceptable, I have not had considerable time to evaluate it. Its likely Ill look for a different repair shop in the future. I think they probably do good technical work, but I wasnt thrilled about how they handled the customer service. Also, they put stickers on my stuff. I hate that.

On a Friday, late in the afternoon, I found out I had an issue with my laptop and the part where the cord plugs into the body (not on the cord, but where you put it). I took it into Seattle Laptop and within a very short time, they had worked their magic and my computer was back to life! I should note that I am a college student and my laptop died, conveniently, during the lead up to finals and I had one due just a few hours after they gave my computer back to me. I owe them my passing grade! Lifesavers, these guys are, and I will never take my computer anywhere else. (I would have given them more thank-you-hugs, but Id probably be arrested/sued for harassment... Many hugs and Many thanks to these two knights-with-shining-technical-skillz!)
