NEVER GO TO AUTOSERV!!! Unless you like spending money you dont need to. Failed an inspection and was given an estimate for over $900 to pass. Took the estimate to another shop, only half the items on the estimate actually failed, other shop fixed items for $250 and then passed my vehicle. Even when confronted with parts that didnt fail or were unnecessary they would try and sidestep by saying "well we recommend replacing these..." I can just imagine the thousands people unnecessarily spend at Autoserv because they take advantage of people. Update to owners response: I never returned with my rotors asking them to be turned. I was failed because i was told there was rust on the rotors, that was the only true part about his statement. When I decided to replace the rotors myself I had noticed that the car was leaking oil from the oil filter, and AutoServ had also changed my oil during the inspection as well. While they were redoing the oil change i asked them to show me the rust that i failed for because I had just taken all four tires off and I was skeptical about the inspection decision. Not satisfied with what they showed me I took my car to another location and had it inspected again. The car of course passed inspection and I saved hundreds of dollars. The car then passed again a year later, on the same brake pads. By time the owner had contacted me all of this had already happened, nothing happened after he contacted me because it was already over. I am updating this 3 years later because while I was upset during my original review, the response is less than accurate.

I was in Charles Town for a weekend event. I traveled 4 hours to get there and started to have some vehicle issues after arrival suspected to be the front wheel bearings. I contacted my home mechanics who agreed by my description. We agreed that since it just showed up I would be able to make it back home and address it there. Well it ended up that the passenger bearing didnt follow the plan as the same day it went out. I was able to get to this location as it was near the hotel I was staying in. It was the end of the day when I arrived. They quickly determined the problem and confirmed that the passenger front wheel bearing had gone out and was nearly frozen up after I drove to get it to them before they closed for the day. They all stayed late in order to make arrangements, find parts, discuss a warranty issue that came up, and even gave me a ride to my hotel. They were very helpful and did everything they could after hours on a Friday to have a plan in place to get me fixed first thing on Saturday. That even meant tracking down factory parts 45 minutes out of the area to address the warranty issue. I am very impressed already and my vehicle will not be fixed until tomorrow as I am writing this the night after I brought it in as I was so impressed by their efforts. If I lived here I would use them for sure. I am glad they happened to be down the street from my hotel as I feel confident they will take care of my issue and get me to my event tomorrow on time.

I have always had very good service from this company. I own a small business and have two or three company trucks at any given time. I have used auto serve exclusively for those vehicles and for my personal cars for the past five years. One exceptional experience was when I took an older Colorado pick up in for a new engine. There was a known factory defect, and serveral technical service bulletins. Chevy even extended the engine warranty. My engine problem started just after the extended warranty expired. I thought I was screwed and just went to auto serve to have the work done. Sean, the owner, and his lead techician recognized that this had been under that extended warranty, and Sean thought it was unfair of Chevy to exclude it. He went to bat for me and spent several hours at serveral different times on the phone with Chevrolet. That boy is tenacious, wore GM down, and got my work done at a dealership at no cost to me. He spent his time, and got paid nothing for it, and the work was done in another business. Saved me several thousand dollars.Auto Serve has earned my loyalty for life.

Update: Its been three years since I wrote this, and its all still true. I go to AutoServ for everything I cant handle on my own, everything from a simple state inspection to having an entire engine replaced in a Yukon. They have consistently been honest and fair with me all these years, and have never once given me a reason to complain. Plus, as it happens, theyre pretty darn good mechanics, too. Original: There are a surprising number of good, honest mechanic shops in and around Charles Town. AutoServ is one of my personal favorites. Ive been going there for years for all kinds of work, and theyve always been good to me. Theyre friendly, honest, they do good work, and theyre fast. Great place to deal with if you need a mechanic. Today I dropped off my Jeep with them saying "I know it needs brake work, I just have no idea what kind - let me know" and they called to tell me all they had to do was clean and adjust the rears. They could have sold me anything they wanted and I wouldnt have known any better, but they dont do that. Good guys.

Within a 2 week period, I tried to have my Jeeps tires balanced on 3 separate occasions at AutoServ, they failed every time. I even inquired if they were using a solvent to clean the rims, they answered yes every time. It was obvious they werent because the wheel weights were being thrown off a few miles down the road. I took the Jeep across the street to Thompsons, they were able to correctly balance the tires and they have stayed balanced for 10k miles now. After the third attempt, I demanded my money back, to AutoServs credit, they fully refunded my money, without hesitation. Too bad they couldnt refund me all the lost time too. If they cant follow simple instructions and perform a simple tasks such as balancing a tire, how on earth can they be trusted to perform more complicated work. They will never touch another vehicle of mine.

I recently had my car in for tire repairs. They said they reseated the tires and charged me $25. The next morning both tires are flat still leaking. A few days later I go out air up the tires and the car wont start. I open the hood and all of the engine covers are gone. I go see the shop and they claim they werent under the hood. A coworker of my wife drove by and saw the hood up. I call and speak to Sean and he laughs at me and hangs up. I run down to the shop to confront him and tell him I should call the police and all he says is I know them all since I detail their cars. Now I dont know whats wrong with my car other than they charged me to steal over $100 in parts and probably messed with stuff under the hood to try and get me back in the shop. DON"T USE THEM I AM CONTACTING THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU!!!
