Outstanding service and staff. Ive been a customer since 2008 after moving to Milwaukee for work, and would recommend Riverside Auto without hesitation. The staff is expert, the quality of the work is top-notch, the prices are both fair and reasonable, and they will go out of their way to provide you with good service. My dealings with Riverside have always been entirely positive, and by way of illustration, when I was in the process of moving out here from the West Coast, one of my cars axle bearings basically gave out after the cross country drive. I happened to get into town on a Thursday night, which meant that unless I could get it fixed on Friday, Id be stranded for at least 3 days -- hardly a good situation when youre also planning to move into a new apartment that same weekend. Because I was literally brand new to Milwaukee, I had absolutely no idea where to go, but fortunately for me the Shepard Express paper had just published its 2008 "Best of Milwaukee" reader survey, and Riverside was rated as the top auto repair shop. So the next morning I called them, explained my situation, and to my great appreciation and relief they completely took care of the problem even though their schedule that day was already fully booked, the repair was a pretty major project, and they very easily could have told me they wouldnt be able to fit me in that day. They didnt though, and instead they did whatever it took to help me out. Since then, if I ever need any kind of maintenance or repairs, Riverside is my automatic choice and in all honesty you couldnt pay me to take my car anywhere else. Again, I would recommend Riverside without hestitation.

Riverside Auto has to be one of the most honest shops I have experienced in Milwaukee. Consistently over the last two years I have had issues with my vehicle and wondered if the other shops were actually fixing anything. Over the summer, I had some issues with my engine and oil pressure light, I took it in here, and they checked everything out, at a minimal cost. One thing I also appreciated was the transparency between the mechanics and myself. I actually talked to the guy who was working on my car (Greg, who is fantastic by the way), and he explained everything to where I could understand him. I also had another issue where my vehicle was burning oil (its old, people), and rather than sinking more money in to it, he was real with me and told me to just continue filling it with oil. At one point when another issue popped up of it not starting, but when I took it in it wouldnt reproduce the same problem, the offered to send someone out to check it out. I dont think thats a service Ive heard any shop offer. They really care about their customers and want to make sure youre getting the best service as possible. Oh, and the price. Excellent compared to other shops in the area. I honestly will never go to a different shop.

I heard positive things about Riverside and called when I had a suspension coil break in the back of my car. I wanted to go as cheaply as I could because its an old vehicle I plan on replacing within weeks. Joe gave me a reasonable quote, broken down by service/labor and then parts. When I told him my plan for getting a new vehicle and that I had even taken a test-drive earlier in the week, he encouraged me to call the salesman at the dealership to see if it would affect my trade-in if I left my car in the condition it was in. He offered this advice, even knowing it would make a difference whether I end up bringing my vehicle in or not. I did what he suggested and was happy to hear that the dealer would accept the trade-in without me having to repair the coil. That saved me a lot of money and time. I think that speaks to exactly how this service center handles business. They are out to save you money and aim to inconvenience you as little as possible. This time I wasnt able to "reward" them by bringing my business in — but it will definitely be the place I will go the next time I need to — and I will also be telling my friends that its the first place they should check in the event they need car care. Thank you, Joe!

I went there with an electrical problem - possibly a battery, possibly an alternator, possibly a starter. I also asked if they could diagnose a rattle. I was told it would be $40.00 for a full electrical system test. I agreed. Two minutes later, the tech comes back and says it was a bad battery. I had already bought a spare at Walmart and he asked if I wanted it put in. I said yes. I figured that would be included in the $40.00, especially considering it only took the tech about 2 minutes to diagnose the problem. They didnt mention that there would be an extra charge. They also put my car on a lift and quickly determined my car had an exhaust shield rattle which they couldnt fix at the moment. When I went to check out, no more than 30 minutes after I had gotten there, I was told I owed them $70.00 - $40.00 for the electrical system check and a 15 minute labor charge for putting the battery in. I was in the shop for a total of 30-45 minutes. I paid the bill, but I felt like they should have included the battery installation in the $40.00 charge considering how quickly they were able to determine what was wrong. Because they didnt, I probably wont ever go back. For me, its the little things...

Given the choice of all the other mechanic options in the city, I wont be coming back here. Ive taken 3 different cars here over the last 5 or so years, lets say 7ish visits total. Everyone I know has come here just because its the closest/most visible shop near UWM. But there is just nothing great about it, and a few un-great things. Ungreat thing #1) Customer Service. They always spend the absolute minimum amount of time talking to you, in the most deadpan, uncaring way. Perhaps if you are a long-time customer or a buddy its different, I have seen them treat the people ahead of me in line completely differently, but have had them act this way towards me (female) and 3 other male friends. Ungreat thing #2) Prices. Its just not impressive, which gives me no reason to continue to come here. Ungreat thing #3) Effort/Value. The work is fine I guess? But I have no reason to trust them and they certainly dont try very hard.

I have had a few bad experiences with auto mechanics and finally found Riverside Automotive, thankfully near my home. I know very little about cars and I know I have been taken advantage of in numerous situations in the past. I went to Riverside to get my a/c fixed. I was fearful that the work would cost between $1000 - $2000, as another mechanic told me so. Riverside personnel took their time analyzing and explaining to me the problem, even showing me a diagram of what needed to be replaced. Always courteous and even welcoming to my dog Katie, Riverside has proved themselves to be professional, clear, respectful, and their work is excellent. They do not take advantage of women like me. I have recommended Riverside to those who have asked and I will confidently continue to do so. The cost? Much less than the the other mechanic: $750. YAY! Thank you Pete and everyone at Riverside!
