I dont own a BMW and actually have never been to Berkeley Motor Works, but I wanted to share a life-threatening experience I had yesterday morning with someone (white, middle-aged, male) driving a Berkeley Motor Works company vehicle (silver BMW with the company logo clearly displayed on the passenger side door). I was driving to an underserved hospital in the area, east bound on the Richmond Bridge; to by the way, deliver life saving chemotherapy agents to patients being treated for cancer that morning. The Berkeley Motor Works vehicle driver nearly ran me off the bridge by purposely not allowing me to pass a big-rig vehicle, even though there was more than ample room to pass. The moment I turned on my signal he sped up to eliminate the gap. Luckily the driver in front of the Berkeley Motor Works vehicle allowed me to pass after witnessing the danger the Berkeley Motor Works vehicle driver was causing. I passed the big-rig on the left and then moved back into the right hand lane (because if you arent passing, you really shouldnt be in the left lane to begin with). The Berkeley Motor Works vehicle made it a point to weave through traffic to catch up to me just to flip me off! While driving over the two lane bridge, he made it a point to drive along side me, extra close, lean over to his passenger side window and wave his middle finger at me until I noticed him. Once I noticed him he quickly sped away down I580 where as I turned off to catch I80. I did not get the chance to write down his license plate. If I was the proprietor of Berkeley Motor Works I would not want someone like that person representing my establishment. I plan to tell all my BMW driving friends to stay clear of Berkeley Motor Works.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS SHOP. PRICE GOUGERS AND THEY WILL MAKE UP LISTS OF UNNECESSARY REPAIRS - BUYER BEWARE. Add me to the long list of price gouged dissatisfied customers left by Mike and front desk guy Scott. Having spent nearly $3,000 to repair an engine light on issue and believing promises made by Mike the owner that our BMW would run for another 100,000 if we did all the repairs they suggested. Just a couple of weeks after spending that money and engine light is back on and now they want another $1,200 to repair it again?? Why didnt they fix the first problem instead of replacing my spark plugs and doing other unnecessary repairs?? I asked Mike why would they need to change my spark plugs if we just had them changed a year ago. "Because their dirty," he claimed. I spoke with a BMW mechanic at Concord BMW and he said that you can usually clean the sensor with a spray you buy at auto parts store. Very easy to remove the air mass meter and clean, too. So please, dont get screwed like we did. We literally had to take the money from our 401k because they said we had to get these repairs done. When I needed brakes on my other BMW needed they quoted me $600! I took it to Martys on San Pablo and he charged me $279 plus tax. Like I said in my first review I thought these guys were good only to find out they will take you to the bank and not adhere to their own guarantees.

Paid them 2300 before going to a new to shop when they said I had a bad aux air pump and replacement would be 1500 with parts and labor. Thats when I went another mechanic who said IF it needed a new pump it would be 700 labor and parts it turned out when berkeley motor works were working on something else they forgot to plug it back in...cool it cost me 200 to fix (labor) Þhats still 1300 less . My quote to fix my car was originaly 1800 they then called me and said it was 3200 then settled at 2300 wheb I was like what?!! þhen after I picked up my car it bropke down on the street 2 times which it had never done before taking it to mike at bmw also they had to keep the car for a total of 2 weeks after doing a simple timing belt job they forgot to puþ something back in which cause the time to slip and broke a valve and they had to do a head job on the car and tried to charge me they also charge too much an hour and end up with your car for 2 weeks and never call back when they say they will

Ive taken my car here for several emergency repairs, while I usually do the maintenance myself. When my mass air flow sensor went out - which created some really peculiar problems - I feared for the worst, thinking it was something to do with the very expensive VANOS. I dropped it off in the early afternoon and they contacted me the next morning stating they isolated the problem by using a known working sensor. A very expensive sensor, but such are the perils of owning a BMW. Theyve always been courteous, pretty efficient and willing to go into detail about the problem(s) youve reported or that theyve found with a complimentary visual inspection. My preliminary visit was to get my Expansion Tank replaced. They gave me a literal laundry list of problems they found, which I was pretty impressed to get for such a simple repair. They seem to be authentic enthusiasts and genuinely care about your BMWs well being. I recommend them.

I brought in my car because my check engine light was on. After lots of expensive repairs, I was assured that the car was solid and good to go for 100K. Three days later my check engine light came back on and I failed my SMOG test. Another expensive repair later, they lagged in calling me to pick up my car. They did remember to put their license plate frame on my car without asking me.

My BMW mechanic was stumped by an issue with my engine that he could not solve. Mike at Berkeley Motor Works quickly diagnosed the problem and professionally communicated the solution to my mechanic in detail. The guys at Berkeley Motor Works are the local Go-To experts for finding fixes that others miss. Their years of experience with all BMW models really show.
