Ive taken my car to German Motors a few times for both minor and major scheduled maintenance. My basic 90000 mile check on my fairly new to me 2003 A4 was completed as promised at a reasonable rate. A month later I had the timing belt replaced. My schedule made it difficult for me to pick the car up right away after it was ready but they had no problem keeping it in their fenced and locked parking lot until I was able to come pick it up. They even took $288 off of the "book" time for the timing belt job. I also had a power steering hose replaced there. The hose was in such bad shape that some threads from the rubber hose came loose as they worked on it and became lodged in the system causing the power steering to fail shortly after I picked it up. Upon returning they flushed the entire power steering system at no charge to me. My car has worked flawlessly ever since. If I HAD to come up with one negative comment I would say it takes far too long to get your car in there. The wait always seems to be 10 plus days to get an appointment. Other than that German Motors is tops

German Motors is great. The staff is friendly and helpful and they remember my name and car. Their prices are fair and they make intelligent decisions and give great advice whenever I bring my car in. They will throw in the less expensive parts for free on occasion. They always give me a call if they discover anything new and the give me full estimates for the additional work needed as well as telling me how crucial the repair is. My car broke down a week before I had to leave town and they managed to fit me in during the next week. They ordered the parts and then replaced nearly the entire cooling system in 3 days. A few mechanics, including the owner, stayed late until 6 PM on a Friday so that I could have the car in time to go home for break. I have tried Hubbards German Auto in Eureka, and they are pretty good as well, but their receptionist is unpleasant to deal with and they frequently order the wrong parts. Its great to have a mechanic I can walk to from home when I am left without my beloved car.

DO. NOT. GO. HERE. There, saved you a lot of time and money. I went here with a broken slave cylinder on my car before a road trip. Paid them $400 to put a new slave cylinder on, but instead of doing what I paid them for they just flushed my clutch fluid and said everything was fine, but still charged me $400. Fast forward a month, and 800 miles into said road trip, and guess what breaks? My clutch slave cylinder. So now I have to pay someone else to do what these idiots were incapable, or unwilling, to do. Save your money, and time, and support a mechanic who does a good job, by not going here. These guys also wanted to charge me 600$ to install tie rods on my E36 M3. Yeah right, thats a 2 hour job; they essentially wanted 300$ an hour?!. Again, save your time, and money, and go anywhere else. I know the pain of owning a German car in Humboldt, but this isnt your answer.

I requested specific parts for replacements and they put in other than what I requested. They charged me for the more expensive parts. I asked for a specific brake pad and they put in cheaper pads. Now my brakes squeal when I back up. They charged me their price for the pads. I could have purchased them online for one third less. They maybe good mechanics, but their business sense sucks and they scam customers with over inflated parts costs. They use cheap parts and charge you fancy prices. If you are going to use them tell them you are going to buy your own parts for replacements after they give you an estimate. Or tell them you want to check the parts before they install them.

My first experience with German Motors was very positive. We were traveling north from Mendocino County when the Westys transmission refused to shift. We limped back to German Motors and they fit us in that same afternoon, diagnosed the problem and fixed it for only $35. We went back on the road and were able to complete our trip. Their work has always been good. I wouldnt trust anyone else with our 1982 Westfalia.
