Ive taken my car to Neely Automotive twice now (3 times inc having to get a hose replaced for an extra ~$100 charge) for radiator problems. The first time was in 2003 or 2004 to get the radiator replaced. They replaced it and w/in a few weeks I was stranded on the road again because a hose blew and I lost all the coolant. They charged me about $100 to replace the single $1 hose which should have been replaced the during the radiator install. Now I could have seen that as an oversite the first time, but after taking it there again for more work (again radiator related) in 2008 and spending over $2000 to get work done I ended up stranded again do to a hose breaking w/in a few weeks of having them work on my car. I had to pay another ~$90 to another body shop to replace 7 hoses totaling just under $8 all together for the hoses, ~$70 in labor and ~$10 in coolant. Again, they could (and should) have replaced these $1 hoses, but instead thought they could get more money out of me by waiting for them to fail and then charging another hour in labor to replace the parts. I would definitely NOT recommend Neely Automotive. Also my initial quote was $1,500-$1,800, when I dropped it off in the shop the guy just wrote down $1,800 on his paperwork. I got a call back saying the work would be between $1,800-$2,100 for everything, and the final cost was just shy of $2,100. Note that the difference is $300 on both quotes, so they were able to scam me out of another $300 because I didnt have time to shop around (was preparing to leave town). Buyer/Customer beware!

Awesome mechanics, i dropped my car off after they closed, they had it running by 3PM the next day, this was all during the holiday season, while HSU is getting out, every other mechanic was packed but they got me on the road very quickly! To top it all off i had no ride to pickup my car and was ready to take the bus, but instead they picked me up and drove me to the shop. Good solid price on the work and part, both are warrantied, no bullshit storys about some crazy crap going on, it was all smooth and proper. they took care of what needed to be done and only what needed to be done. Will recommend to friends and goto during my days in Arcata, Always. Thanks guys!

I had a stuck window and went to them right at closing - they tried to get to the motor, that wouldnt work so Scott went and figured out the wiring and jumped it up. Know how much it cost? A request to come in for my next oil change. Most spots I know would have charged at least a half-hours worth of labor. Thanks again and Ill be in for an oil change very soon!

If you have ever had to get repairs in Humboldt you know it very hard to find a good mechanic. I have had problems with every mechanic I have been to here until I went to Neelys. They go above and beyond for a fair price. Their work and ethics is the Gold Standard in Humboldt for mechanics. I will never take my vehicles to anyone else again. Highly recommended.

Scott was always friendly and honest. Its a bummer theyre not open 7 days a week but when I had my car towed in on a Saturday afternoon, they called me first thing Monday morning. Cant say I know how their rates compare since Ive never gone to anyone else, but friendly service makes a big difference to me :)

These guys are great, they try to get it done inexpensively for you but actually are thorough and seem to care. Whenever I go into a fancy shop I figure Im paying for appearances, this place is simple and doesnt push junk on you. Straight foward honest and competent, Ill definitely keep going there.
