Be very cautious with Royal Computers. While I have no reason to doubt the quality of their work, I experienced a bate and switch on pricing that was worrisome to say the least. I brought my damaged laptop in for a diagnostic and was originally quoted $325. This seemed reasonable, so I gave the go ahead. After a few delays out of Royals control (I got a call saying that a wrong part had been sent from a supplier and they had to wait for a new one), I finally got a call saying my laptop was ready but the technician recommended an operating system reinstall. Assuming this was complementary, I said yes. Anyone who has a Mac knows the operating system is now a free download and is very simple to install. In any event, when I called to arrange for pickup the next day I was informed the bill was $675. Note: no one had ever asked me to approve additional expenses beyond the initial estimate. The most ludicrous charge was $150 for the operating system reinstall. In their defense, and this is why I am giving them three stars instead of one, Royal Computers adjusted the bill after I pointed out to them that I had not approved additional expenses. The front desk staff was courteous and seemed to understand my frustration. Apparently it was the owner who stepped in to make things right, which I appreciate, though I never spoke with him directly. Maybe my experience was a fluke. In the very least, though, you should be very careful if you take your computer to Royal to ask them to have you approve any additional expenses beyond the initial estimate. Also, dont have them reinstall your operating system. $150 to reinstall Mac OS X is like a car mechanic charging you $150 to air up your tires.

Soon after my $1200 Sony Vaio laptop froze up during the inital boot-up phase of windows, I began looking for computer places to fix it. While driving down Ramon road I noticed Royal Computers free diagnostic computer check sign. I decided to take them up on the offer. After I spoke to several employees about the problem they said to leave the computer for a few days and they would check it out. After they called me back I came to their store and heard the diagnosis. They said the problem with the computer was the hard drive. They said it would need to be replaced and the total for the repair was $240.68. I was floored, I could not afford that, so I gathered up my computer (paper weight) and headed home. It is now about a year later, and my computer is completely fixed. The cost to fix it? FREE! My sister and her husband whom recently moved here from Seatle was a blessing. Her husband who is very knowlagable of computers looked at my computer. After 5 minutes or so he almost laughed at the fact that Royal Computers told me it was the hard drive. And when I told him they wanted the $240 for a new one he laughed out loud. All he did was reinstall Windows 7 for free and now my computer is %100 perfect. It took about two hours. I will never trust Royal Computers and I understand a hard drive might be expensive to fix but that wasnt even the problem with the computer. CUSTOMER BEWARE!! Plus, I went on the internet and found hard drives for $40-$90, and I know labor is involved but $240 is too much.

I am an executive coach and value top-notch performance. When my computer crashed the day after Christmas, I took it to a shop near my home and they told me the mother board was shot and I should get a new computer. Wanting a second opinion, I went to Royal Computer. The woman who helped me said she had seen this particular problem with my brand of computer many times before and told me it could be fixed within a week and quoted me a very good price. One week later, I got a call from Royal. The computer was fixed. When I went to pick it up, the owner waited on me. He asked if I had been quoted a price and when I said what it was, he looked at the invoice they had prepared, which was a few dollars more, crossed that figure off, and gave me the quoted price. No muss, no fuss. I now consider myself a loyal customer of theirs and would recommend them to anyone. This is the way business should be done. It is a pleasure to do business with competent, honest people!

Took my All-In-One computer in to be fixed. The screen was not displaying but you could hear Microsoft noises in the background and the screen was lit. They had us leave the computer for diagnostics. The next day they called us and told us "The Mother Board is fried" It will be $540 to repair the computer. I said I would rather buy a new one. They asked if I just wanted to leave my computer there for scrap. I said "No, I will come and pick it up." I took my computer to J&B Computer in San Marcos and told him what Royal Computers said. He did diagnostics. The next day he called me. The video cable was unplugged. They plugged it back in and my computer works perfectly. They charged me $60. Dont believe Royal Computers knows what to do with a computer. Believe they are incredibly overpriced. Believe they would take components and use them. Take your computer to someone you trust. Not these guys.

This morning I visited your store for the first time and asked if I could test an Excel program of mine on a Windows computer. Its part of a gymnastics scoring project and is expected to run on both Macintosh and Windows systems. I use a Mac and develop the macros and layouts etc with it but now needed to test it out on a Windows system, especially the parts that refer to accessing files since those commands are different in the two environments. Your pleasant staff set up a system for my use and within a half hour, all was tested and a few bugs fixed. The bonus was "No change" when I asked. Thanks to you all for the great service; Ill be back. - a Snowbird from Regina, Sask. Canada

The customer service here was excellent. The charger for my laptop died and I needed a replacement immediately. After calling and visiting several other places who were of no help I contacted Royal Computer and they said they thought they had a charger but to bring my laptop in to make sure. I went in with my computer and they tried out several chargers until they found one that worked. At one point the gentleman behind the counter tried his own charger and they were planning to sell me that one if necessary. Next time I have a computer problem I will be calling Royal Computer first!
