Upon pickup of my mail that accumulated while I was traveling in July 2016, I discovered that magazines, newsletters and large envelopes were folded, bent and rendered "unreadable" due to damage inflicted by postal workers at the main U.S. Post Office in Danville, CA. By any measure, and by its own federal sanctions, the intentional or unintentional act of damaging U.S. Postal mail and parcels is a federal offense. Title 18, Part I, Chapter 83, Sub-section 1703 of the United States Code reads as follows: (a) Whoever, being a Postal Service officer or employee, unlawfully secretes, destroys, detains, delays, or opens any letter, postal card, package, bag, or mail entrusted to him or which shall come into his possession, and which was intended to be conveyed by mail, or carried or delivered by any carrier or other employee of the Postal Service, or forwarded through or delivered from any post office or station thereof established by authority of the Postmaster General or the Postal Service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both. (b) Whoever, being a Postal Service officer or employee, improperly detains, delays, or destroys any newspaper, or permits any other person to detain, delay, or destroy the same, or opens, or permits any other person to open, any mail or package of newspapers not directed to the office where he is employed; Citizens who utilize the U.S. Postal Service would not reasonably expect to have their parcels damaged by postal workers who have a fiduciary responsibility and obligation as custodians of the federal government to uphold and maintain the handling, sorting, delivery and other postal management duties in an orderly manner without inflicting or causing damage to parcel items. Yet, when challenged by USPS patrons about damage to their parcels, the attitude of USPS workers at the Danville facility is best characterized as defensive, aloof and indifferent. A word of advice to the Postmaster of the Danville facility: do everything in your power to see that a change and shift in attitude, accountability and ownership of duty and responsibility on the part of your workers and associates occurs at once.

Conventionally located in the Danville Square Shopping Center with Trader Joes and Starbucks. There is usually hardly any line to wait for service. But the retail service hours closes at 4:30 pm, instead of 5:00 pm during the week. Its not open for retail service on Saturday or Sunday. You have to drive out to the Camino Tassajara location. The lobby is conveniently opened 24 hours/day, 7 days a week if you need drop mail, use the self-service mail kiosk or go to your rented PO Box. Finding parking in the lot can be tough during the weekday and Saturdays because of Trader Joes.

The customer service at this branch is horrible! Rude, dismissive and overall cranky staff. There is hardly ever a line but the employees always make it seem like processing transactions or answering questions is an interruption to their day.
