I have been needing to get my trucks check engine light fixed for a while. Like everybody else in the world I work for a living, I know its going to take some time to diagnose & repair, so I waited till I could drop it off & I knew I wasnt going to need it that day. I am an Electrician & work out of my truck so that just adds to the difficulty of getting this work done. Suffice it to say, I finally get a clear day. I take it in, & tell them, I had a code for them that I got from a reader that you can borrow from auto parts store. Then they boasted, "oh no, we would rather do our own diagnostic, we have this $10k machine that zeroes in on "exact" problem, so we can get it fixed right the 1st time". Please remember that last sentence as I continue. So they give me an estimate to replace 2 ignition coils, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs & spark plug wires. I told them I allready had spark plugs & wires done. (As professional mechanics, how do they not know this?). I tell them to go ahead & replace coils. Then they come back to me & say "oh, we are saving you some money because ignition coils cover two cilinders, you only need one". Shouldnt they have known that from the very begining? I pick up car at end of day. As I am driving home, check engine light comes back on.....Do you remember sentence I told you to remember above?? Anyways, as I said before, I am really busy, blah blah, but I get off early one day & race it down to get it rechecked. They basically put up their hands & shrugged & said they couldnt figure it out. This is after I spent $560 the day I took the whole day off to get this fixed. Do you also remember the bold statement," we have a $10k machine that zeroes in on exact problem so we get it fixed right the 1st time."? So they basically told me to just bring it in when I can & leave it all day, "AGAIN" very nonchalantly. Really?? Thats why I dropped it off that 1st day "all day"!!! So it comes down to this. If you want to get your time & money wasted, then by all means, go to Half Moon Bay Auto Repair, otherwise, go somewhere else. As a side note. Being a licenced fully trained Electrician, I cannot fathom going to a customers home or business, troubleshooting a problem. Tell the customer "the problem is X & its going to cost this much". Then have the customer call me & say the problem still exists. I personally would feel embarrased professionally that I didnt fix it the 1st time, but never mind that, if that were to ever happen, "I" would go out of my way to make it right. I wouldnt shrug my shoulders & put my hands up in the air & tell the customer for instance, im really busy, ill get to you when I can. But thats just me I guess. I put customers 1st.

This place as proven time and time again to be a money suck as well as a time suck. Every time I bring my car here for one thing that should be a quick fix it turns in to a multi day dance of "oh while fixing that we found..". The customer service is B+ and makes it hard for one snap on them for upselling you every chance they get. I have found it might be better to just re tow your car to anywhere else in town. For convenience of getting your car back within the week and not paying a ton for the labor charges they decided your vehicle needed. When your problem is a simple fix of just having the car start. *car is a 82 el Camino for reference on how basic each fix should be* *edit hours later to one star because i was given my car back with a broken ignition switch and now can only be turned off and on with needle nose plier. Lol and some how free of charge for making my car worse....nice.* I still have no idea how you fix the small problem and in turn destroy the way a car normally turns on and off *another edit: while taking apart my car for no reason and destroying the key ignition they somehow managed to disconnect my headlights. Amazing, how?? . Im so offended at this shop and their business practices Just got kicked out of this shop for my yelp review on 3/6/17 and the owner refused to fix what his employees broke. I even called ahead saying I will drop off and expect the things to work like before. Because why would I need headlights and the ability to start my car with the keys and not pliers also heres a photo of me being refused service

My car broke down in L.A. with an electrical problem that I tried everything to fix. We drove all the way back to Half Moon Bay and worked on the car for another 4 hours but finally realized I would need a specialist to work on it as the problem seemed extensive. Half Moon Bay Auto Repair had done a breakk job on my Lexus previously, which had been done with quality and expertise. Therefore when the electrical problem arose with the Honda, I thought of Half Moon Bay Auto Repair and brought the car into them and asked if they would look at it and get it up and running again. The owner confirmed that not only would he certainly fix the problem, but would put the the car back together again. He could fix it, he said , but it would take 2-3 hours. It was a rainy, stormy day, and he drove me home. After 1-1/2 hours he called and said the car was fixed and ready to be picked up. Not only did he they trace and fix the problem, that I had created by messing around with it in the first place, but they were able to put the entire dash back together again. The quality and craftsmanship and the courtesy, went beyond my expectation of good service. My rating of the quality service recieved, far exceeded a "10" with excellence. I will recommend Half Moon Bay Auto Repair to everyone I know. Their friendly, courteous service, I found very comforting and the quality of the work I found to be far beyond my expectations. Thank You, Mike Lemos, Half Moon Bay Resident

These guys work on my cars and motorcycles. How I judge a team like this is in two ways. One being the quality of work they perform. The other judges character and the honesty. I’ve come in for problems and they’ve told me they wouldn’t work on a bike since it was still under warranty and didn’t want to void it by fixing a problem they knew how to resolve. Another example involved my daughter’s car. She helped someone jump a dead battery, blew a fuse in her car which happened to be linked to the electric steering assist. I though the assist died and took it in. I started thinking about taking money out from my daughter’s college fund...lol...anticipating a large bill. They popped in a new fuse, gave me a call and hazzah!!! College fund is safe. The prices for service are reasonable and they work with you on cost savings. For example, I can get good deals on motorcycle tires so I buy them and they will replace them for me. Saves only a few buck but hey, one beer here and there keeps a smile on my face. This is how you build customers for life and would recommend them to anyone.
