A HIDDEN GEM!!! AND THIS IS NOT A FAKE REVIEW. I have a 92" Tempo that started making a vibration noise. Since it was an older car that hasnt needed any major repairs I was concerned it could be engine or transmission trouble. Someone even suggested that it may be the water pump. A friend (an 83 year old lady with a 69 Camero, original owner) recommended Chuck at Del Monte Auto. Its hard to find so I called when I couldnt find it and Chuck got me there. He was waiting for me. I pulled up and all he had to do was listen to the car idle for a few minutes to make a diagnosis. NO CHARGE! He told me it was the harmonic balancer which is a rubber part that keeps the belts from coming loose on the engine. This made sense to me because I had it replaced many years ago under warranty. I think its a designed failure point on the Tempo/Topaz models. He called for a price check on the part and gave me a verbal quote of $225 bucks. He could have cheated me and said it was a lot more but he was very honest. I asked when he could do it and he told me he was too busy that day, Monday, but to bring it in the next morning. When I arrived he told me he needed a couple of hours and said he would call. Sure enough, exactly 2 hours later my phone rang and he said it was ready. The Total: $227. I asked if there was anything else that he saw while he was down there and he told me that I had a couple of broken motor mounts that were not critical nor was it a hazard. He could have tried to scare me or gotten more money out of me but he didnt. I will be back and I will tell all my friends.

Spending as much time on the road as I do, between Orange County and the bay area, I have found it important to have a quality mechanic that I can count on at the midway point. Chuck, Dan and Dwayne have been in business at their current location for the last 10 plus years. The entire time Ive been bringing my vehicle to their shop, they have been nothing but honest, forthright and courteous. They have time and again gone above and beyond the call of duty, in regards to making sure that I get to my destination without incident. They have no affiliation with me, or our company. So dont take the avatar the wrong way. Chuck, Dan and Dwayne have all worked hard, to cultivate strong roots within the Central Coast. And based on the quality of their workmanship, are now reaping the harvest of their hard work under the hoods of your family automobiles. Chuck and Dan both have been working on cars from the time they could walk. If it has four wheels and something that looks like an engine… they can help you out.

I took my 1999 bravada to chuck at del monte and after living in redwood city and having a "good and trustworthy" mechanic look at my SUV over and over again he couldnt fix this oil leak that was making a mess under my car for the prior few yrs...It didnt seem to be causing me a breakdown issue but it was a problem I wanted resolved... I moved to monterey and ended up taking my car to del monte and chuck worked on it. He was able to figure out what was wrong and fix it... It was a really messy and dirty involved job. He said my truck would have went on ok for awhile like that and fixing it was likely avoided because it was kinda hard to diagnose if you didnt really know cars... Which im now really convinced he does. He didnt have to fix it but I wanted it done and he was honest enough to tell me the truth and knowledgeable enough to know what needed to be done... As a female its sooo hard to find a mechanic you can trust and rely on but now im not worried, I will always take my vehicles to chuck.

I went to Pacific Grove Goodyear because it was near my house. I wanted them to check out the front suspension and do an alignment. They did the alignment and recommended upper and lower ball joints and outer tie rods for both sides. The quoted price was around $1500, and they would have to do another alignment after it was done. He tells me this after they just charged me $80.00 for an alignment! It all seemed like a lot for a 2002 with 80k miles, so I called around. Chuck at DEL-MONTE AUTO REPAIR in Monterey, quoted me at $871.00 for the job, but said hed look at the vehicle to see if all that was really necessary. I took it in the next day, and after inspecting the vehicle, he determined that only the upper ball joints needed replacement, charged me $344.00 and sent me to his alignment place for $40.00. I highly recommend DEL-MONTE AUTO REPAIR, and I recommend extreme caution if you decide to use Pacific Grove Goodyear.

Chuck was no help to me. He replaced parts like plug wires and sensors and charged me 100s of $ to do probably 20 minutes of work, no joke. Car was handed back to me twice not working properly still (misfiring), was not tested well enough. Chuck NEVER called me once the car was done i was always bothering him and he had my car for three weeks to do plug wires!!! I asked him to check the ign. system while he was down there. He did not. I tested it myself, found the ICM to be faulty and replaced it. No thanks to chuck. Before i fixed it tried to take it back for a third time, he told me things were going to start getting expensive, basically he didnt want to mess with it anymore.

My wife and I brought our car in with what we thought were two significant problems. Another shop had told us the problem would require lowering the transmission and cost thousands of dollars to fix, and we were trying to mentally prepare ourselves for the need to just buy a new car. We took it in, and Chuck said hed look it at for free. He fixed the problem by replacing a nut and bolt, explained to us that the other problem was really no problem at all, and sent us on our way without charging us a penny. Such great customer service, honesty, and integrity. Chuck definitely won us as customers for the rest of our time in Monterey. Cant recommend him highly enough.

I got my used chevy a few days ago and she cranked up sometimes when i tried to start she. I brought her to Cardinale Way and paid 140 dollars for checkup. Based on what they said, there was something wrong with the fill pump in the fill tank. And they said it would be 1,100 to get it replaced!!! So my friend took me to Del Monte Auto Repair to recheck her and they fixed her within one day. It was because of the wire connected to the pump. And they let me drive my car for the weekend to see if her runs well before i paid them! They are awesome!!! I really appreciate their experty. Folks, dont pay the stupid shops!

TRUSTWORTHY KNOWLEDGEABLE FRIENDLY Found the shop on Yelp/Google and the reviews were great so I checked it out. I met with Duane who penciled me in ASAP. I took my car in having a slight idea of what was wrong with it but could not pinpoint it. Duane was able to narrow it down to 2 possible issues and suggested that I could fix it at the cost of the part. He did not have the part but he did not even charge me for labor. I went and bought the part from a local dealership (mass air flow sensor) and shortly after installing my car is as good as new and my pockets are much happier than anticipated.
