Rarely do I ever actually write a review. I only do in exceptional situations. John McBride of Boyd Plumbing is an example a exemplary service. We had an underground water main leak under the driveway. Water was spurting up from a crack in our driveway. We had no funding to fix our leak unless we went through ygrene financing. So We first called Clark & Rush (because they were on the approved list of plumbers with ygrene) on the Saturday it happened. We paid $89 for him to tell us he couldnt do anything until we spent $280 on a leak detection company to find out where the pipe is. I asked if they could just bore a hole and lay new pipe. He said he hadnt heard about that technology and we would have to remove part of our driveway. They even refused to do an estimate even if we locate the pipe ourselves. Next we called Bonney just to get an estimate. They said it would be between $6-7 thousand. We didnt have enough funding for thier project and were very worried. Next we called Boyd Plumbing. I was completely and totally impressed with John. He genuinely seemed concerned with our situation and explained in detail about the project. He also made us feel even more relived with his estimate of $4,000. Almost half the cost of the other companies estimate. They scheduled us for a fix in one week. We were initially disappointed with the scheduling but they bumped up a day because they understood the urgency of resolution. We understood because they had to contract out the boring hole & pipe with another company. We were told it would take one full day. To my surprise the boring company finished in little over an hour. John came back with his partner and proceeded to put the fittings on and replaced a leaking water valve we had in only a few hours. We have a house with thin walls and a loud child, so much to my amazement he decided to call when he was done instead of knocking on the door because he assumed I put my kid down for a nap. That is exactly what I was doing. He said on the voice mail that he thought I was probably putting my kid down for a nap and that he had kids too and he said that he hoped it was OK to call instead of knocking on the door. This last step of his excellent customer experience just solidified for me how great of a company Boyd Plumbing is. I looked at the work they did and it looks perfect. I cannot express how satisfied I am with thier work. They did a fantastic job and cost half the price of other companies.

(Updated June 6, 2013) After Mike (the owner) read this & other reviews I wrote, he contacted me to try to rectify the situation. We met & he got my explaination of where I think his service fell short & I gave him some tips to do better. He refunded the fees I asked for & left a much better impression. If you have any problems with the work his company does, be sure to call his company & ask to talk to him to discuss the problem. Absolute Ripoff! I called Boyd to clean out a main drain. As soon as the technician got here, he started talking about replacing my main drain. He charged me $350 just to look at my sewer line with his camera, then came up with $10,000 estimate to redo the line with trenchless. He also said the short term solution would be to cable & hydrojet & check with the camera for $2000. He was here about an hour. I called another company for an estimate. The technician came & checked out my sewer line with a camera at no charge. His company had a special to clean sewer lines for $100. Plus he checked the work with is camera afterward. They guaranteed their work against clogs for a year & said my pipes were no where near needing replacement. He acurately told me the routing of my sewer line which Boyd didnt bother to do. He was here for almost 2 hours & only charged $100! I dont know how Boyd got their Angie list ratings or BBB+ ratings. It sure misled me! I am telling everyone I know about this to call the second company & avoid Boyd like the plague.

Summary: overpriced, didnt stand behind their work, and missed a much more significant problem. Our sewer backed up into our basement, so we called Boyd on the recommendation of a neighbor. The plumber came and snaked out about half of the line, and found remnants of baby wipes, which I now realize we should not have been flushing. $705 and one valuable lesson later, the plumbing was back to normal -- we thought. Exactly three weeks later, the sewer backed up again. There was a two-week warranty on the original job, so we called Boyd back to see what they thought. The plumber was very dismissive, saying that "it was probably baby wipes again" (we hadnt flushed a single one since the cleanout), and told us it would cost another $700 for him to come back and do the same thing. This is not my idea of good customer service. We called another plumber, who did a much more thorough job with a longer snake for $450. More importantly, he realized that the line wasnt just clogged, but that tree roots had broken through it, which explained why 3 weeks of normal use led to another backup. Boyd didnt realize or mention any of this during his job or when we called back, even though after doing some research I realize that this is a very common problem. So we had to pay for another cleanout job instead of fixing the real problem. I am very unhappy with Boyd Plumbing.

If there were 6 stars, I would rate them a 6!! This was my first experience with Boyd Plumbing as I needed some minor plumbing repairs and was looking to obtain an estimate for the work. I located Boyd through Angies List and called them on 3/29/16 and spoke with Brittany who was very pleasant. She scheduled a visit for a free estimate on 3/31/16 between 1 and 4PM. On 3/31, Brittany called at 1PM and indicated David Lyons would be coming by within the hour to provide an estimate. David arrived and was very professional, knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. He provided me the estimate for my work (which was reasonable) and indicated he could perform the work right now. I agreed to move forward and David performed the needed repairs within an hour and was very tidy and left everything as clean as it was before. David thanked me for my business and I couldnt have been happier. Boyd Plumbing will now be my 1st choice for any of my plumbing needs!

Good lord if I had followed this "technicians" advice, I would be five grand or more to the poorer. Had a drainage problem and made the mistake of NOT calling my public city services first. After the scare tactics from the plumber, I was lead to believe I was sitting on ground zero of a major uprising. After being assured I was not at the center of a Mount Saint Helens of sewage by my local friendly public servants, Ive had no problems. They said from time to time the citys main drainage can have a backup. They gave a few handy FREE tips of advice. Thats more than I can say I received from my discounted?? $250 service call. Advice to you - call your city services first when having sewer problems! Thats where your tax dollars go and they are your best resource for an unbiased opinion of what to do .. at least that was my experience this time. They always go extreme and try to scare customers it appears to do unnecessary plumbing work. Shame on Boyd Plumbing.
