Short Story: This company is absolutely immoral. I submitted an application to a home, not an hour or two after it came on the market (I had notifications setup on Zillow). I was told flat out that I was the first application submitted by over a day, I exceeded all requirements in the paperwork, yet was never even given a chance to view the home and my application was simply ignored. Full Story: I called Michelle Yanofsky before submitting the application, but there was no answer so I left a voicemail. This was a great home, exactly where we wanted, and met or exceeded everything we needed. I didnt wait for a call back and immediately submitted an application. Later in the day, I even went through the website and did the contact an agent. I heard nothing. I even called the next morning at 9:29am and still there was no answer. I called the main office on my lunch and was told not only was she available, but she had been answering calls all day. I tried her once again and finally she picked up. She then told me that she had just shown the house that morning at 10am (which I would have easily made had she returned or picked up any of my calls). She was accepting an application from someone who viewed it, and even though she saw my application submitted first, was ignoring it because she didnt feel comfortable (not even a policy, nor was it mentioned in the listing or anywhere on the site) renting site unseen. While I understand completely that she probably had a lot of calls on this, I was told I was literally the only person that submitted an application the first day. So not only did she not return my voicemails and message on the system (nor did anyone else from the company), she didnt even call the only person that submitted an application before she showed it. It doesnt end here. After she basically told me tough luck, I called and spoke with Ron Herdt, one of the owners. He seemed to sympathize with me at first, but then spouted off a bunch of nonsense on how tough the market is and how they are "put in a tough spot" on most rentals. Isnt that what they get PAID for!? Regardless, he said he would speak with Michelle and get back with me immediately. I called back 2 hours later and was told that he decided to step out early. Luckily, I got his cell number from the very nice receptionist, and when I called him he basically also told me tough luck. His exact words were "Michelle works for me, but she made a decision and we are going to stick with it and rent to the other people." Not only did I point out that they made a mistake and the right thing to do is acknowledge that and make it right, but he also wouldnt admit whether or not that decision was made prior to me calling him in the first place. He could have VERY EASILY told the other application that they had made a mistake, and there was actually an application submitted before theirs that they failed to communicate anything to or give a fair chance to view the house. Moral of the story is, they just decided to do whatever they wanted instead of the right thing, and honoring the first submitted application for a rental house. Now we are left without a place to live, in an extremely tough market to find anything, with a dog that needed a house like this because he just had surgery to remove cancer. Thanks Cityscape!

INCOMPETENT! We signed rental paperwork on 24 Aug 2011 and set move in date of 13 Sep. There were multiple issues that with the house that they assured us would be taken care of by move in date, including broken glass on stove top, broken edging & tile in kitchen, scraped walls in need of painting, yard was a neglected disaster and they agreed to replace the fridge. The morning of move in, I still didn’t have a key to access the place, although they had promptly cashed our deposit check. That morning our movers called to tell me that they couldn’t move in that day – Cityscape had decided to have some cracks in ceiling filled that day & there was scaffolding set up through the house – they completely forgot that we had scheduled to move in that day. We had to coordinate for movers to come next day; that morning I still didn’t have keys, had to call to get Cityscape to open house and then still had to wait all day to get keys for ourselves. We finally got our keys, but when we arrived at house we found that not one thing they had promised to do had been done in the 3+ weeks they had between signing and move-in date. There were 3 garage door openers but they couldn’t find them. When we found them all 3 had dead batteries, which we had to replace. The fridge had not been replaced – it took 2 months and multiple phone calls to get that done. It took me 3 months to get Cityscape over to patch up walls; twice we had the work scheduled and we based our day’s events around it, both times they didn’t show, forgot about it. When they finally did the work, they didn’t match the paint – now, 5 months after move in our walls look like they have discolored spots all over. The back yard had half dead grass and both front & back had over-grown shrubs, looked horrible. Cityscape tried to claim that it was just that time of year (it was August and warm out). As of 14 Jan 2012, the stovetop is still cracked and falling apart – I called and even required Cityscape manager, Ron, to come to house to discuss how I didn’t really want my wife to get cut on the glass. He was completely aloof, had no idea there was an issue. He carries an arrogant air about him and defends incompetence by blaming it on others who “let him down” or by lamenting that he has so many properties he just can’t keep up with them all. A handyman finally arrived on 28 Dec 2011 to install the new stovetop – he then realized that Cityscape had ordered the wrong one, it didn’t fit – the one Cityscape ordered wasn’t even the same brand and no one bothered to measure it. After calling Cityscape & talking to the manager, Ron, he told me it wasn’t a big deal and he would send someone over with a tile saw and make it fit. 3 weeks later, nothing had been done and Ron wouldn’t return my phone calls. When I finally got through to him, he told me he thought it was done and how it wasn’t his fault. When I asked that he order the right stovetop instead of cutting tile and spraying dust & debris all over our kitchen to compensate for their incompetence, he tried to talk down to me and push me around. The stovetop, yard, kitchen edging, kitchen tile and wall paint is still a disaster, 5 months after moving in. Customer service is worst Ive ever seen. I would NOT use Cityscape again for any property manager or realty issues.

This place is terrible. It took them 3 months to get our washing machine fixed and its still not completely repaired. It jitters all over the floor when I run a wash cycle. No, its not over-loaded. I am trying to get them to repair our master window. It has been broken for over a month. The hardware that holds the window into the frame has dry rotted out and will not hold the window in the frame. As a result we cannot open the window. There is no air conditioning and it gets extremely hot in here. The landlord will not respond to emails or calls. I see someone is responding to the negative reviews. Dont bother citing the BBB if you respond. That company is a scam and businesses can pay for their ratings. Edit: This place is still terrible. I reported a window as broken on March 17th and were on 85 days of a non-working window. The glass isnt broken. Its the window hardware that wont hold the window in the frame. Because of this we cant place the window air conditioner in the window. Our bedroom is running 100 degrees in the evenings. I have to sleep downstairs on the floor with my 4 month old baby because Im worried about the heat making him sick. Do not rent from this terrible company.
