Wow, had an absolutely horrible experience with this company over the weekend (4-14-12). Have to mention he was 45 minutes longer than expected. The appointment was made for between 8 – 10am. I got a courtesy call around 8:30 saying the tech would be there between 9 – 9:30. The tech showed up nearing 10:30am. Just saying. So, when he does come, he quoted a price of $179 to fix a leaky kitchen sink pipe. I frowned, and he negotiated $40 off. I agreed to the $139, thinking it could be a big job, what do I know? It took all of 3 minutes to fix the leak. Now I’m thinking that $139 is a lot of cash for 3 minutes, but he explained it was a flat rate. But even after that, the sink wouldnt drain at all. In addition to having just the leak, he said it was stopped up to boot. I questioned this, because it didn’t have a clog before, but when he then told me it would be $320 MORE to go up on the roof and snake the pipes, I really got suspicious. I didn’t trust what I was being told so I said that I was going to call Roto-Rooter to speak with a manager for help. He kept telling me I didn’t need to do that, we could negotiate a lower price. This did nothing but infuse my concern that he wasn’t being honest. Roto-Rooter doesn’t have manager’s on duty on the weekends. I was told it could take up to 2 hours for one to return my call. Well, I signed a contract saying I’d pay $130 bucks and my sink was worse off than before so I decided to have the tech remove the one inch piece of PC piping he inserted and leave. After waiting now another 2 hours before leaving my house (in case the company choose to send another tech out as an offering of a resolution to my problem), they actually never called. I called them again to question why they hadn’t, and was told they’d put the request in again. They never called. Here’s the best part of the story! I was referred to a plumber by a friend after I mentioned the “Roto-Rooter” nightmare. The plumber came within the hour. He took one look at the pipes and said that there was a block in the trap of the pipe. A mere 6 inches from where the Roto tech inserted the PC valve. I’m not saying that he sabotaged my pipes, but I am saying that paying $320 to snake the pipe from the roof would have offered no solution to the problem. The plumber cleaned out the trap, connected the pipe and said he “didn’t feel right charging me at all for so little work”. I would have paid Roto-rooter $459.00 to do something that this guy didn’t feel good about charging me at all for. I believe in a fair quote for fair work and I also believe that customer satisfaction should mean something. I would not be posting this damaging review had the company bothered to contact me as promised to at least try to make me feel like my bad experience mattered to them.

VERY VERY PRICEY! ***UPDATED I am a new homeowner and tonight we had an overflowing toilet that was coming up through the shower drain. Gross. I called Roto Rooter in a panic. I explained the situation and Daniel told me not to worry that he could have someone out within 2 hours and they could fix it! He said they would call when they were on their way. No call. So, around 11:30pm Marc knocks on my door doesnt introduce himself and tells me to put my dog away. He comes in looks at my bathroom, runs some water, sees and hears gurgling from the toilet and tells me its from the main sewer line. I figure, hes just got to snake it and clear the clog. He tells me he has to remove my toilet and go underneath it with the auto snake thingy and that its going to cost me $507!! I think that price is crazy, he tells me thats the companys pricing. I dont have much choice at this point so I tell him to go ahead. He spends the next 2.5 hours snaking the drain and finds nothing. He tells me that the cable has come out shiney because there is sand, or dirt. I have NO idea what that even means! Tells me its very bad and I need to have a camera go through the pipes to see whats actually happening, but thats going to cost an extra $370 and he doesnt have a camera on the truck. He tells me the pipes are probably Orangeburg and they are failing. But to know for sure we need the camera. He then tells me there is no warranty on the work he did, because its the pipe and the "clog" is clear. He ran the water to make sure. I asked him if it was STILL $507 even though he didnt technically clear anything. He tells me yes, and takes the $40 coupon off the service that I had to tell him about. He did not explain things very well, nor did he suggest any tips on how to go about using our plumbing even though I asked. I could barely understand what he was saying, but thats not his fault, his accent was VERY thick. I dont feel confident about anything. I am not even sure if I should do laundry or drink water or shower at this point. Maybe this is all just a learning experience? I was hoping to feel better after he left but I only feel like my whole house is going to ripped up to replace all these "failing pipes" ******UPDATE 10/5/2015 Spoke with Owner Demetrius regarding charges and service request. He is going to send out a camera tech to see if there are any breaches with the plumbing for no charges. EXCELLENT customer service. Quick to respond to questions and find solutions that work for us. I appreciate the customer care. Changed to 4 stars. Only because Tech gave bad information and did not explain charges and said the work was not warrantied. Demetrius said that yes, the work was warrantied for 6 months not to worry. Made me feel ALOT better about Roto-Rooter. Thank you!

I called Roto Rooter on Sunday 1/31/16, for an unknown leak in my home. I had a damp area on my carpet, and some visible damage to my baseboard, however the cause of the leak was not easily detected. That same day, Anthony, a Field Service Representative, promptly came to my house to assess the situation for water restoration. He was able to find the water location in several seconds using a high tech device. Right away he called his dispatcher to send a team to begin water restoration services, before further damages, if any could occur, and at the same time, he opened a claim with my insurance company. Not more than a couple hours later, Alexandria, ID# 3257, arrived at my home, and immediately went to work. She as well used a high tech device to locate the water, then cleared and prepped the area and installed the drying equipment, keeping me informed of every step along the way. She was very knowledgeable and had alot of great tips! On Tuesday, 2/2/16, our plumber, Dennis, also from Roto Rooter, came and immediately found the leak, which was located in a water line to our bathroom sink, adjacent to the area of concern. Dennis had to make an incision in the wall, which was clean and accurate to the location of the leaking pipe. He cleaned up well, and left an itemized receipt, as required by our Homeowners Insurance. The repair was cost effective and reasonable. That same night, Alexandria came back to see how much more time was needed to complete the drying, and if any equipment needed adjusting. It was determined one more day was needed for drying, and she came back on Wednesday, 2/3/16 to complete the water restoration services. Upon arriving on the last day, Alexandria completeled testing of the area to determine that all moisture was gone, before clearing and removing the equipment. After equipment removal Alexandria cleaned and tidied the area, and made sure i was satisified and understood the services i received before leaving my home. I will strongly recommend Roto Rooter to all my friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances. I really apreciate all the help, knowledge, care, professionalism, and timeliness i received in this matter from start to finish. Thank you Roto Rooter, we look forward to working with you again. CB
