Unfortunately typical! I knew Id get screwed because I was motivated to get my car fixed fast , I was leaving at the end of the weekend and needed a car with working AC when I returned in a month. My first job was an oil and lube technician at VW in 1971. I spent 15 years as a mechanic. So its no surprise that this shop is like most others. Nice guys trying to get the maximum bucks with a license to take every customer for a ride. Overcharged for the condenser, even after I showed them a condenser available with a 3 year warrantee for between $85-$115. They charged $195 for a condenser with one year warrantee. They quoted over the phone a price of $95 to recharge the system, they charged $145, "because they had to remove and replace the condenser" which makes zero difference. 2 1/2 hours labor, I could have done the R&R on the condenser in 1 hour. And worse, the car smelled when it was completed because the mechanic clearly sat in the driver seat for a long period of time and was a heavy smoker. That was to make it look like he was doing something if I peaked into the bay. There is no reason to be in the drivers seat except to start the car and turn on the AC system. Overcharge of about $250 - $300 in total. So paid $650 for a $350 job. I remember when I was coached as a kid on how to oversell the customer, throw in an air filter, sell them a brake job, you dont have to lie, just mislead. I understand we all have to "make a living" as Gerry said. Well thats my last visit to that shop. Dont these guys understand that social media will destroy unethical practices, Stupid!

I had high hopes when I read the other reviews for this place, but Im not that happy. I left my car there in the morning before I left town and explained the problem I was having, and then I said that I wouldnt need it back until the next day. I wasnt in a hurry. They were okay with that. They said that they would call me with an estimate/what was wrong, and I ended up calling them instead (the next day after I dropped my car off.) Then they said they would call me back in about 15-20 mins. Never called back. So I called again. They told me what was wrong, quoted me my price, and then told me what they would have to do. They said it might run into the next morning, but they were able to complete it before then. They were efficient, and transparent enough regarding the parts and labor; however when I received my invoice, I voiced my concerns. Included in the invoice was a fee for recharging the AC- I never gave the ok on that. The guy tried to say that it was part of the work that they did to get the whole thing working- which, alright, I get that. But nobody at the shop ever communicated that that was happening, or asked me if I wanted that additional step done. 145 dollars to drain and recharge. Could have been done much cheaper somewhere else. In the end, the service was ok, my AC is working again, but the communication regarding my car was... eh. I honestly just feel weird about it.

My Honda Odysseys AC died right in the middle of May. Not a good thing in Florida. Looking online, I found these guys and went to them first. They diagnosed my car in 15-20 minutes in needing a new compressor, and gave me an estimate--either using a brand they recommend or OEM. Checked with the dealer, same diagnosis, twice the cost. Called Sears, about the same (little more), but they wouldnt tell me what type of parts theyd use. Plus the local Sears has horrible reviews. Husband wanted me to check the local Aamco shop, so went in...waited an hour...and received yet again, the same diagnosis, but they told me it would take 1-1/2 days to fix (compared to 2 hours from everybody else, including the dealer.) Ended up going back, and they fixed it as promised quickly and accurately. Did not feel that they took advantage of me because Im a woman, either. Nice clean area to wait in as well. Highly highly recommended for accuracy, honesty, price, and skill.

We took our sons car to the dealer to get something replaced. While there, we had the dealer look at the AC as our son mentioned it wasnt cooling. The dealer quoted us a price to have it repaired. We have been doing business with Modern Auto Air for many years, so we called them for a second opinion. We were concerned that they may not have enough time to get it repaired as it was a Saturday and they were open only half a day. We needed to have it done because our son was headed back to college the next day. Modern told us to bring it in, theyd work late to get it done. When we brought it in, they gave us quote. They ended up repairing the part and got us out of there for less than they quoted and for a small fraction of what the dealer was going to charge. They went above and beyond what we expected and we highly recommend them.

I took my 2002 acura Tl for A/C service to Modern auto, me being a do it yourself person but have limited knowledge on car ac, decided to let them handle the job. They were on point with the diagnosis and I was satisfied with the repair..problem was my car smelt like a cigar factory after the repair,it even smelt like it was coming out the vents. Next they broke a plastic cover near the hood latch and I was not notified of the damage. I guess they had something heavy placed in that area and cracked it..I did not check under the hood before I left,my bad for that. Would I recommend them? Sure, but I would be cautious of damages next time.

If you want total honesty without gimmicks or games, this is the shop to go too. I took my van to Rick Johnsons, was told my A/C stopped due to faulty wiring and a bad relay, was charged $150, next day same problem took it back to Rick Johnsons was then quoted $1779.00 another words they didnt know what was wrong so they wanted to replace everything...lol i then took it to Modern Auto in Ft Myers where i finally got superior service and great quality for $179.00. I got total honesty from them and would recommend them 100%, thats why they have my business from know on. Thanks guys

I took my 07 Ridgeline back to Honda of Ft Myers only to be charged $100 and told there was nothing wrong with my air conditioning. A couple months later and lots of frustration that my air wasnt working consistenly, I stopped into Modern Auto Air. They took my truck in and within 10 minutes had found the problem. Clogged air filter and an electrical part that was shorting out. Fixed for less than $150.00. Hell, Honda would have probably charged that just for the labor. Thanks so much for fixing my air in a timely manner and reasonable cost. Brad Cantwell

Ive been using these guys exclusively for A/C work for about 12 years. They work on all my cars including a R22 system I am holding onto in one of my classic cars. They also get all my A/C service for my work vehicles. If you want straight forward service without being ripped off this is the place to go. JJ and Gerry are great, honest people to deal with. They even lower the price if it doesnt take as long as estimated to complete the work.
